One of the awesome things about visiting Budapest is the chance to taste the local dishes. And what better place to taste them than at one of the Christmas markets in town? I love the meals and the taste of the Hungarian food, and even though people fear it will be very spicy, it seldom is too spicy. It is simply delicious without getting hot!
If you visit the Christmas markets in Budapest, you can taste many such local dishes. Unfortunately, you will not be served such courses in the local restaurants (often), meaning that the Christmas market is the very best place to get such food.
Here you can see a fantastic stew stuffed in a bread, and I just love it. The bread becomes kind of soft from the stew, and thus you can eat both the bread and the stew, and believe me... you will not get hungry for hours if you eat all the stew and the bread!
Above you can see the stew itself, before it is filled into the bread and served to the visitor. You might find it to be a bit expensive (considering that it is Budapest). A normal meal at the Christmas market will cost you around 10 Euro (maybe more), but considering that you eat on the street and it is a delicious taste of Hungary, it is definitely worth it!
So, imagine yourself walking around Budapest checking out all the sites. You take a look at the Parliament as well, and now you get hungry.
But, instead of visiting a restaurant, you go to the Christmas market at the Vorosmarty square and eat food. It is served to you at once, and you can eat it outdoor. And currently, it is quite mild in Budapest, meaning that you can experience temperatures around 10 Celsious during day time.
Also, check the sausage above. That is my favorite. It tastes so good. Buy it together with a piece of bread, and use either ketchup or mustard. Man, I just want to eat it again... guess I should re-visit the Christmas market again tonight to taste it again! But be aware, it is packed with taste, so if you burp one-two hours later, you will feel the aromas and the taste of the sausage in your mouth once again... and if you sit in a car, the entire car will feel the smell and the taste of the sausage. But, that is kind of the charm of it all!
Come to Budapest, take a closer look at the city, and eat over and over again at the Christmas markets, just like me. You will love it!
