Amazon pulls the plug on unlimited Drive storage

in #tech8 years ago (edited)

I've had the Amazon Unlimited drive storage service for almost a year, I switched to them primarily because of the unlimited storage option, it was certainly one of the best in the industry. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Prior to a few days ago I was paying $60 per year for all you could upload into the cloud storage service, however now they are capping the $60 plan to 1 TB. I know what you are saying, 1 TB is more than enough, however I was using the service to store a majority of my media both videos and photos going back for the last few years.

There are now two new tiers of storage quotas, 100 GB for $12.00 and 1 TB for $60. Apparently I might not have needed unlimited since I only had a whopping 70 GB used, however I did enjoy having that 'safety blanket' knowing that I wasn't being limited. Are you currently with Amazon or are you using a different service like Dropbox or Google Drive?

Hi, W. Thomas. I'm Trevor from your youtube channel. I'm looking forward to following your posts on Steemit. I hope you and your followers will follow me as well. I will be posting content from here in Vietnam very soon. All the best, peace!

W Thomas, I'm glad I don't have to worry about that because the company supplies me with the Tech Tools, cell tablet etc that I need but the closer I get to retirement which is soon, I'm paying more attention for when I go on my own and take those training wheels off as they say.

Yes! I understand what you mean, you take these things for granted when you no longer have them at your disposal or have to pay out of pocket. You should check out Sia, that's a name to be on the lookout for, they offer decentralized cloud storage at the fraction of the cost.
