Soils polluated, or air pollution, the chemical components of tires are a scourge of our society, not to mention their direct link with CO2 emissions from cars. The technological progress is doing well and Michelin is aware of its impact on the world. Here a tire of a new generation will enter the market.
Presented during the "Movin'on" show in Montreal last week, this tire carries the name "Vision Concept". The material used for 3D printing is fully biodegradable. It consists of bamboo, paper, wood, recycled waste from plastic or electronics, metal, and finally orange zest. The impression of the tire makes it a very airy object and because of its composition, it does not drip.
Vision Concept is ideally accompanied by 3D printing stations on the roads that allow to rework the tire according to its wear and tear or the road that will be borrowed by the driver. Sensors will allow to analyze the tire wear or to follow the evolution of the pavement.
Michelin is not alone in wanting to reinvent the tire, or even the wheel. At the Geneva Motor Show (Switzerland) in March 2016, Continental unveiled the Eagle360, a spherical tire linked to the car by magnets.
We will have to wait a few years before a release date, but future is exciting for all the techno fool like me :).
I love the reinventing the wheel part :D
That would be a great achievement to be able to fix our cars by just stopping at 3D printing stations. This sounds very futuristic to me. Let's hope to get there in 5-10 years :)
Well 5-10 years would be awesome :D, I saw 3D printing for food too and for human hearts but those one are more more in the future lol. I think 3D printing could be a revolution for a lot of industries.
Nice! I'm looking into 3D printers at the moment, and plan to write up my experiences once I decide on one. Not sure at the moment whether to start with a "throwaway" model ($300 or less) or do the research now and get something that can grow with my needs -- but will likely be $1k or more...
Also consider, depending on your country to look for a compagny which allows you to rent 3D professional printers. Then you can just print your things hyper fast :), by sending your blueprint. If you are not sure about the 3D printer you should buy, maybe do more research depending your needs ^^. Will follow your progress
Wow, loving it... 3D printing is going to explode in the next few years
