Sorry, I should have been more clear... I'm talking about the much smaller decisions that aren't currently represented on the on-screen visualizations... how it's intending to tackle the next stop light, where will it merge, etc etc. I've seen so many videos of people using FSD that have had to disengage because they weren't sure if FSD was going to stop at a stop sign... and I've seen a ton of videos of it just blowing through a stop sign with no pause... one disengagement was because FSD started to merge into oncoming traffic, so it's hard for drivers to know if they should disengage or not.
I think a little screen or some kind of information somewhere that shows its next intended move would be really useful.
Yeah, the typical development cycle of a vehicle is usually 4-5 years, with some models coming 10 years after they've been designed. For a new vehicle to be in production in 2024 or 2025, suppliers would have been notified and orders made, and apparently that hasn't happened yet... so I'd guess years away is more likely... but happy to be wrong.
Oh, I see! It would be interesting to catch a glimpse "under the hood" of FSD's decision-making. A voice function would also be nice, where it would tell you what it was about to do. That would go a long way to ease anxieties at first. It would have been helpful to me as I was heading into those first few intersections.
It'll be interesting to see how quickly the next gen Tesla vehicles will be rolled out. The timeline you mention certainly does come close to the Cybertruck development/production cycle.
Yeah, a voice function would be awesome!
I was just thinking a little message bar somewhere that was all "Stopping in 30ft", "Merging in 10 seconds", "Pausing at roundabout to check for oncoming vehicles"... but I guess in a way that isn't distracting for the driver who needs to keep their eyes on the road (at least until Level 4 Autonomy (full self driving) is available).
I'm glad you had this experience. I've actually never even been in a Tesla myself.
Thank you! I hope you get to experience one. They're a lot of fun to drive.
