I'm going to write more on why it was allowed to happen. The Hawaiian Queen was much smarter, but it came down to punishing the businessmen ( who were Hawaiian Nationals- yet American) with death for their treason. President Grover Cleveland would not give in to this. The Queen chose not fight the Marines.
