Yesterday, I was at the cafeteria for lunch and saw this decoration - Eat Hong Kong. Sometimes, they have different theme lunch menu.
A little closer look. Some steam containers but there was no dim sum on the menu.
I always like these Chinese opera masks. The other decorative items are quite nice too.
Alas, I didn't find any Hong Kong theme lunch. No dim sum for sure but back to work and saw this in the mail and concluded what I had for lunch was their so called Hong Kong lunch. That was lame. I've been to Hong Kong for a few times and even lived there for 2 months, I've not come across this.
My friends, tell me. Is this really Hong Kong style food?

It should be 金銀蛋菠菜 in Chinese.
It's a common dish in HK and you can easily find it in HK style restaurant.
We can say it's Canton style but not a symbolic HK style food
Thanks for the info.
I have eaten the dish in Singapore many different place to but they have never associate that with HK style.
Actually the Chinese opera masks are not HK style haha. They should belong to Beijing Opera or Sichuan 變臉 XD
Actually, I think of the 京剧too but the 粤剧 should have too, right? So, busybody me have to check. Answer is yes. https://zhidao.baidu.com/question/98460072.html
And the one they have more like the 京剧 one.
Oh yes! 淨生 of 粵劇 wear mask!
Wow. What a long post!

Ahhh, the masks again! They do have a lot of character. Dim sum is delicious even here in Texas, where I'm certain it is not authentic Hong Kong dim sum. It's been a long time since I've eaten it, too long.
The mask do represent different characters and emotions.
I learn to be careful with dimsum in the western cities.
Story has it from a friend who was travelling in Europe and went to a Chinese restaurant.
Spoke to the people there in Chinese and ordered dimsum.
They suggested her not to because the dimsum is from a frozen pack which they will take out and resteam (almost type resteem) :-) I guess if you don't speak Chinese to them, they will just let you have them
Lol resteem - STEEM LIFE! All of the times I've eaten dim sum has been with my stepmother who was born and raised in Hong Kong...she was always very specific when ordering (in Chinese). Would I ever go with a non-Chinese speaker? No way! Thank you for sharing this post, @aec108, I enjoyed it ☺
You're welcome
Dim sum is absolutely wonderful . Too bad they didnt have any this time , maybe next time ?
Yes, have to get my dimsum fix elsewhere. :-)
hongkong is a very nice place.
It is. With many things to do, eat and shop too.
Nice post!
Thanks
That seems really cool :)
cool decoration but lunch was not as what I hope for. :-)
it's the same deal here
a resto would say; "Korean or Chinese or Japanese" in their menu but doesn't taste like authentic ones nor look like sighs :(
i think quite a lot of these in USA too :-)
