There was a bamboo forest on Nantucket when I lived there, but they have since cut it all down. It was sad, too, as it's such an awesome experience to be surrounded by it...it is completely isolating and wonderful. Since being back in our home on Cape Cod, however, I have planted both the short, slow growing and the tall, fast growing varieties in my back yard to have my very own bamboo forest. It is magical. Also I was surprised to see so much of it there in Arkansas!
