SLOWING DOWN ON OUR TRAVELS

in #travel7 years ago

Like many people in life, often we race around.

Time and time again we just don't have the time to stop and check things out. We pass interesting places frequently and are able to get no more than a momentary glimpse out of our windows as our truck races by. Not today! Today @papa-pepper was travelling with Red-Pepper and Pinkie-Pepper because of some dental appointments. On the way back, we chose to stop and enjoy a peculiar area that we've frequently passed. Sure enough, it was worth the stop!

THE RANDOM JOY OF EXPLORATION

IMG_7945.JPG

This was a cool little stream bed full of daffodils that we found. I love the first signs of spring and daffodils are certainly one of them. Just to see such beauty tucked off to the side of the road is one thing, but to stop and appreciate it is even better!

Here are my girls enjoying a wander in some of the bamboo that frequently can be found growing along the riversides here in Arkansas. It is kind of a "scrubby" shorter bamboo, but it is interesting specimen and could be used to make cane poles or fish spears if needed.

IMG_7973.JPG

This is another type of bamboo! It is a lot bigger, tougher, and denser than the previous species. Also, it can get pretty tall!

IMG_7975.JPG

Check out the size of these bamboo plants! Pinkie-Pepper is standing right at the base of them, and Red-Pepper is many feet in front of them. I've seen some nice areas of bamboo in New Orleans and also along the Rio Grande, but it is cool to see them here in Arkansas too, and to let the @little-peppers check them out!

We also found some cool clam shells and bamboo sticks laying around, so the @little-peppers got a few souvenirs to take home too, besides the memories.

SCENES ALONG THE RIVER

One thing that I really like about the rivers here is Arkansas is that they often have a blue-green coloration that almost makes them look tropical in appearance. Here are just a few cool ones from today. Enjoy!

Great pictures @papa-pepper, love them ! Especially the first picture got nice colours and a catching atmosphere...

Thanks! My camera is working out well, how about yours?

The camera is awesome, have to get in touch with all the settings. I made my first pictures with the camera from Kino International here at Berlin... I like them :)

Gotta slow down some days and smell the daffodils (when the roses aren't blooming). And in North Mississippi (where we used to live), it was always better to do it BEFORE the poison Ivy began growing again! Nice photos.

Sometimes the journey is just as exciting as the detinnation. Many time we oly thing in destinations.

Life is a journey, not a destination.

Great point!

Nice post.
I hope people will know more about agric.
It good being an enterprenuer.

Long work papa-pepper with his kid happy family

Hi gays,Ian from Indonesian,l like nature your post.very very amazing

Good luck and enjoy prof, s it fall ?, trees do not have leaves

First thing I did not know bamboo grew there! We are building our goat house out of bamboo and framing from a coconut tree. Some of the bamboo is thin walled we split for the sideline and the corner poles made from thick wall bamboo. Almost 1 inch thick.
It is great to proverbially to stop and smell the roses. As the daffodils don’t have much fragrance.
God bless your family! Praying for you!

Yeah, bamboo is a great building material! Thanks for the prayers!

it's an entertaining journey, even though it's not at the place of the tiles, but they enjoy this trip @papa-pepper.
they are great children with an adult attitude.
thanks @papa-pepper, i really like places like this.
because I am also a villager, so I already know how fun to play in places like this.

Thank you for taking use on your journey @papa-pepper. I don't get to travel alot so its nice to see someone out there still enjoying life and the open road. I hope the dental work turned out fine.

Beautiful photography and lovely kids you have. I love photography of nature. Thanks for sharing.

a very beautiful trip, and more beautiful when it can be fishing in the river

This landscape reminds me of the Venezuelan plain in the summer, only here it is very hot.

You always take lovely pictures @papa-pepper

Thank you, but I think that the camera does most of the work! ;-)

Beautiful scenery, glad you stopped by.

Often time, we pass by so much beauty as these without taking time out to appreciate and enjoy nature. Lessons learned @papa-pepper

It's funny; I've lived in the same place for the last 4 years and it's only recently that I've started to take in what's around me properly. Even taking a more scenic route to the shops has led me to some pretty great canal walks. Being outside with nature is perhaps the best healer of all.

Cool! Glad to hear that you are out there enjoying it a little more!

Who would say it, you don't need a lot of riches, suitcases, airplanes or mechanical parks to see our children enjoy, I call attention to the size of clams? Wow I'd like to see one, here in Venezuela is usually more girls. God bless your girls

That looks like such a fun time!! Getting “off the beaten path” in everyday life is so important. As kids we have that spontaneity, but often lose it as adults! Good job Daddy pepper!! 💛

Right! I don't want to lose it!

to judge by the images this was a beautiful walk, I love the arrival of spring, has better mood to people,
Bamboo is widely used in my town for the manufacture of furniture, from small chairs to closets.
Congratulations for the beautiful catch dear friend @ papa-pepper
I wish you a beautiful week

@papa-pepper, "take time to stop and smell the roses" is such a true saying. Unfortunately we are always in such a rush we forget to do it sometimes. Thanks for the reminder, and a great thing you are teaching your kids, if they learn to appreciate this from a young age it will always stay with them.

Its nice when you have time to stop along the way. That was a great spot that you selected. Perfect to stretch your legs and get some fresh air. I didn't realize bamboo patches grew down in Arkansas. I guess they like that watery area by the river. The little peppers look like they enjoyed it too!

Yeah, there are all sorts of bamboo patches around here. I like to see them!

I have formed a saying for myself, slow down and get more done. This not only makes my work efforts more effective, it also changes my perspective on what is important to me long term. Pausing in my busy day to appreciate sunrise, sunset, water views, aspen glow on snow covered mountains. Never have I regretted the few moments required. I consider these moments to be perspective resets.

I love that saying! Thanks for sharing it!

@papa-pepper

First, As an African, and typically Nigerian, I have never witnessed Spring nor have I seen daffodils
Before.

But with your write up, may be when I come over to your place, I would look out for daffodils and once I find them, I would definitely know its spring...LOL

And for the blue green colouration you described as typically Tropical, I would not want to contest yet, until I am done checking out the river some miles away from my home.

May be, the river may turn out to be blue green
and tropical as you said, or it may even be white or whatever colour that describes Mediterranean. Lol

My regards to @little-peppers
You all must have had a great time.

Thanks for checking it out @chiguy!

I loved your bamboo plants that meet you, heré we have a little bamboo in home too, but is another kind of bamboo like this, bambusa vulgaris.
Very great to see enjoying great time of quality with your son.
Best regard

Very cool! I've always liked bamboo!

Let bygones be bygones ,,,
a very exciting trip,,,papa,,,
learning with nature ,,, great fun ,,,
You have taught them how to appreciate nature ,,, indirectly ,,,
I really appreciate that ,,,
Carry on,,, papa ,,,

Looks like gorgeous countryside, I love that kind of rugged terrain. It's so fun to find those little patches of wild flowers around.

I always thought that bamboo was tropical.
guess not.

Still trying to wrap my head around your amazing kind of person, Papa. You know stuffs about virtually everything. I admire your research and willing mind. This will definitely help the ever impressive @little-peppers. That's a nice stop over Papa. How did the appointment go?

There was a bamboo forest on Nantucket when I lived there, but they have since cut it all down. It was sad, too, as it's such an awesome experience to be surrounded by it...it is completely isolating and wonderful. Since being back in our home on Cape Cod, however, I have planted both the short, slow growing and the tall, fast growing varieties in my back yard to have my very own bamboo forest. It is magical. Also I was surprised to see so much of it there in Arkansas!
Thanks for sharing your little side trip!

Wow! big shells! Is there's a lot of fish in that area? My hobby is fishing hehehe...

These photos make me want to pack up a picnic lunch. some fishing poles and head down to the river with the family just to enjoy the day! Love the little-hidden daffodils. I love spring flowers. Looked like a perfect day for a stop by the river. Those clam shells are huge!

the place is still good, and not touched any, thank you @papa-pepper

Wonderful area hope to explore it in person sometime 💯🐒

I agree, many of us don’t see the beauty that is right in front of us!! Beautiful pictures and you have an adorable family!!!
