Just got this notice from my hotel.. seems like they have received notice from the government to suspend VPN services..
Guess I'll have to find another way .. luckily steem is still alive.

When I see the control the Chinese Government uses on the internet; It makes me wonder what kind of controls governments could exert on cryptocurrency??

I may have a solution for you. When I was in China some people helped me out with getting Google to work.
You should go to baidu search engine and search something like "hosts file 2017 july" or something like that. You have to replace your own hosts file with the one you'll download and you got Google and such for around a month before you need to download a new one in my experience.
I don't really remember the entire process of doing this, but you should be able to find a tutorial if you can read Chinese, unlike me :P
Try to download green VPN or super VPN on your phone.

I am confused, can you just install your own vpn like open-vpn, or proton vpn? Or do you have to use there computers only? no wifi?

Michael. I can get you connectivity outside the Firewall without the use of VPN. When I was in Beijing I threw up a beefy VM in Azure in our Hong Kong datacenter and from there I could get to whatever I wanted.
Please let me know if you'd like me to spin up a VM for you for like a week....free of charge and I'll provide you the login details.
