Yes you are right. In Africa people live in the sun and are always exposed and you never hear that one of them has skin cancer.
Everything is just made up to make people pay money for creams and medication.

Skin cancer craze started in the 80ties with the excessive use of sun products ;)

africans have higher concentration of melanin that prevent ultra violet rays from damaging the skin compared to the rest of the world, that is why their is lesscase of skin cancer in africa, the enverionment has caused african to alter their genetic makeup so as to survive the sun

Africans also get sun burned and use ochre (a red sand) mixed with fat or butter and applied to the skin to protect themselves from the sun.

The name of the mud may vary from region to region, but here where I live we see it applied often. Certain medicinal plant extracts are used as well, the tribal folk know how to apply it and not run to supermarkets at a whim.
