Terrific pictures, almost makes me want to be there, but alas, i am miles away. I have never been to Grand Canyon national park, never even been to the United States for that matter and never been camping. Where I am from, camping would be considered a luxury. But after reading your post, its a luxury i surely want to indulge in at some point in my life. I live in the UK now and there are plenty of nice natural retreats here.
Your camping experience with your friend, riding motorbikes, reminds me of my high school and undergraduate days. In my high school, i had a motorbike and i did countless trips with my friends to a nearby town in the himalayas called Mussoorie - also known as 'Queen of Hills' in India. Sometimes the trips were planned well in advance, sometimes in split seconds (tagging my friend here @sidvrma). The route was fantastic, (and I wish I could see more pictures of the route you took), and the company of friends made it better. In one of these unplanned trips in december, i remember clouds having descended so low, that i was riding through them. I love riding bikes and going on road trips and i think bikes offer an unparalled experience as opposed to cars.
Its great that your post was featured by @danielsaori so that i got to see your post and will definitely be following your content. Glad to have been taken down memory lane and reading about your experience. I truly envy you right now, surrounded by the concrete jungle that i am. Time to book a holiday.
The Grand Canyon has to be seen. A million photos and 10,000 hours of film can't catch it. Most everyone sees it from the South Rim which is spectacular. But the North Rim is so much more... I go back to the North Rim every chance I get. The only real reason for me to go to the South Rim is a chance to see the Condors.
I got my first motorcycle at age 13 (very near 14) which means I've been riding for 53 years. My life would have been much poorer without them.
I think that area of India is where a friend crashed his bike and broke his collarbone. I was invited to go on that trip but had to work. Alas.
Starting with the next post I'll start showing why the North Rim calls to me. I'm really happy that you are going to return!
I think i have to agree to that. Most beautiful things that i have been fortunate enough to experience, i can surely say that they are best captured in our minds than a hard disc. Plus the experience of gettig away from everyday life and enjoying fresh air, surrounded by nature is a big postive that makes me go on trips. I do want to see the grand canyon and will keep your tip handy when i am able to plan a visit.
Same for me, although i fall short on experience given i am younger and not riding in the UK anymore. But i do every chance i get in india.
Sorry to hear about your friend. I will recommend that if you get a chance, you should travel to India, recommend north east, rent a bike and see the sites. Some parts in himalayan foothills have plenty of camping sites now so definitely worth a visit.
Looking forward to see your post. May be i book my next holiday there after seeing your post.
