Venice is obviously well-known for being completely surrounded by water, with channels running directly through the city itself. It makes sense then that there would be other small pieces of land nearby that also might house small communIties. One of them is Murano, which is most famous for the glassblowing, but another a little further away by boat is the picturesque island of Burano. Similar name but quite different in look and feel.
Burano is known for the brightly coloured fishermen's houses and the various small family seafood restaurants that overlook the water. I arrived just before lunch and made a quick trip around the island, which probably takes around 20-30 minutes on foot. Whilst walking it was great to pick out the different coloured houses that really pop quite vividly, not only on camera but also in person. It was a nice experience but as this is a tourist spot it took quite a while before the streets cleared so I could capture these canals without anyone walking by the side of them. The amount of selfies taken in front of the houses was quite incredible and will probably all feature on Instagram at some point! haha
Little did I know before I arrived that this area is famous for the lace-making, linens and clothes are still being made here and are quite expensive to buy. You just have to beware of the cheaper knock-off type quality ones that are sold in some of the shops. But overall I really liked this island and hope that I might be able to visit again in the future. Who knows. I hope you like these photos that I took while there.

the colours are so vivid... and the place so beautiful... I guess you had a great time, wonderful photos
Thanks for your comment @yidneth. Yeah, it was a really fun day. Lots of tourists but I still found some little places of quiet on this island! haha
a lot of nice photo's, greetings
Those house look very bright and colorful! Upvoted :)
Thanks. Yeah, they are really bright and vivid. Thanks for commenting.
I saw your post on the Whaleshares Curation Show. Congratulations on the feature!
I have never heard of Burano. All of the colors and textures are quite delicious! The reflective / glassy water shots are my favorite.
Yeah. Burano is a nice place. I didn't know I was featured but I'm glad I was :) Thanks for letting me know!
It seems we have had this conversation before. ;) Weren't you the one with the Henry Moore post a month or so ago that got featured?
Glad to deliver the happy news!
Haha yeah, that was me! It's like deja vu :D Appreciate you letting me know ;) It can be hard to stay up to date with everything on here.
Indeed! Just keep doing what you're doing, the rest will take care of itself. Have an excellent day!
Such a beautiful city. Id love to go there. Maybe once crypto picks up i can take out some fiat and visit. At the rate i accumulate SBD it might take a while. haha.
I love that you took to the streets rather then just focus on the main attractions. That shows the city from the point of view of those that live there.
I hope I can travel to some new places if this crypto space ever picks up again :D In the meantime I'm collecting ;) haha Looks like you are doing a really good job! Keep it up :)
Ugh, I really needed to be more jealous of your travels. :D
Haha thanks for commenting. I've been travelling a little lately but plan to take a break for a while I think :D
These are some beautiful pictures. I am glad that you had the time and patience to capture them without all of the tourists around. Those guys mess up all the great shots :) It looks like you had a really nice time there and it looks like a cool little place to visit. The colorful houses are my favorite. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks @bozz! Means a lot. Yeah, those pesky tourists ;) hahaha
Beautiful shots! I still remember my time when i was in venice for a whole 10 days. What i love to do the most was strolling aimlessly through the streets and discover new places such pocket gardens, small themed bars and of course the gelatos! Thanks for sharing! :)
Ah, sounds like you had a great time. I was there around 4 days in total. It was better than I expected and hope to visit again :)
I love all of the colors of the houses! That's so cool! We went to Venice many years ago and it was a lot of fun. Interesting that they make lace there - I can imagine it is expensive!! Thanks for sharing such cool pics!!
Nice photos and words. I have been there also and explored further out instead of the crowded inner part of Venice which everyone takes photos of the same landmarks etc.
That's great. Yeah, there can be a lot of people but I think it's a great place to visit :) Thanks for commenting.
I distinctly remember some of these sights during my visit to Venice around 4 years ago. The islands you mention were just off the coast? Also the kind of look of the buildings could be considered 'worn out' but they just add to the flavor and atmosphere of the place. I think we visited in March or April but the climate even then was good, and blue sky all around.
