There is an one of the most famous ruined temple place in Korea.
It is Hoeamsa temple where had been built in Goryeo dynasty.
There was nothing but the stone foundations.
This temple was specially cared by the Royal family in Goryeo dynasty.
Interesting thing was this temple was deeply influence by an Indian Monk at that time.
He was Jigong in Korea and his real name in India was Dhyanabhadra.
It was recorded he had traveled from India to China and finally got arrived at Goryeo dynasty and stayed for 2 years 1326-1328 AD.
It was so interesting more than 800 years ago, the Indian Buddhist monk had travelled such a long distance from India to Korea.
One thing more impressive was the portrait of Indian monk was well preserved until now. Eventhough I could see only the copy, it was so amazing to see his face.
After his teaching, temple Hoeamsa had been developing a lot.
There were portraits of great monks who had contributed for the prosperity of this temple.
But nothing is permanent in history, once flourished temple became the ruined place.
According to your photography this temple looks widely spread one at that time! Probably a center of Buddhism institute at that time! That's remarkable to see that copy of painting! Thank you very much for sharing such great travel experiences with us!@slowwalker,
Cheers~

These ruined temple was amazing architectural place I believe because those foundations given best idea. Unfortunately current community haven't chance to look full image. Most wondering this is how was protect final monk's paintings. It has yet with natural colors.

That is life and just a confirmation that nothing is forever in this world. No matter how the people, countries, temples or cathedrals could be important in one time but will be wiped up from the surface and lost years later. Only stone steps and foundation left behind as reminder of that historical event. Like those paintings, seems to be on the wall and reminded me the work of Leonardo da Vinci "The last super" where the painting became pale due to time.
