There is an island in the west see of Korea. It might take one and half hour by car to get there from Seoul. This temple is linked to the land with the bridge.
Gang Wha Do is very meaningful place in Korean history.
t was the center of resistance against foreign invasions through Korean history.
The most famous resistance was to Mongol.
It was Goryeo Dynasty when Mongol had invaded.
Goryeo kingdom was an exceptional country which resisted to the end of the invasion.
As the result of this resistance, Mongol gave up to conquer Goryeo dynasty.
Gang Wha Do was the resistant center against Mongol’s invasion.
Even though Gang Wha Do was not far from the land, crossing over was impossible due to the sea mud.
While protesting in the Island, Goryeo kingdom had made the Buddhist Sacred Book for the wooden print boards of 80,000 books.
Jeon Deung Sa seemed be an important place for making the wooden print boards.
Now those wooden print boards were moved to Hae In Sa temple.
There were several gates to enter into the temple.
Where I choose was a course passing through the mountain wall.
As passing the gate of the wall, there was a monument which memorized the victory against the French navy’s invasion of 19 century.
The pines along the road to the temple were so amazing.
As other temples, there were the small stone pagodas.
There were letters on the steps toward the temple.
Those step stones would’ve been some kinds of monuments.
Finally I stood in front of the temple buildings.
What is the mean of shapes on the rock?
@slowwalker,
I think you visited one of the great historical place of your country! Every country has such kind of place which had a great history against all invasions! My country has such kind of places as well! While the China made their great wall against Mongolian attacks the Korea used this place to fight against them! Amazing and I like the nature of this place that I see through your photography! Yeah it gives me Castle feeling when I see that first door to the temple!
Cheers~
Jeon Deung temple of road looking very interesting. And your photography absolutely beautiful.I like very much dear
Gang Wha Do, the goryeo dynasty has something for building this kind of entrances expecially to a palace or like a temple such as this, the truth is that the pines to the temple building and the stones, is reminiscent of the Korean empire and it's such a beautiful sight when you finally got to the temple really. Wow amazing shot.
@slowwalker, First time I see some ornaments of Island temple in Korea. Linked bridge very easy to reach final destination without walking.
Yeah it seems much better. Also amazing thing is made 80,000 wooden print boards for protected island. Such a brilliant background this area and some of small stone pagodas impressive to me. Well explained behind story of this temple.
Gang Wha Do is such a great place with a lot of history. There are the ancient rock shrines called dolmens, the mideval fortresses where nobels hid during mongol and some other invasions, and even the battles with imperialist europeans in early modern times. There are even a few nice looking beaches and good fishing spots. I heard they want to make a bridge to the airport so it is easy to visit.

Bagus, sempurna
There is a arch gate... It's interesting. I'm wondering that how ancient people was able to learn this arch shape.
very detail post.
After all the photo details are even enough to speak, moreover with the explanation that you make makes us know that this temple is a relic of the past glory, standing firm will not be defeated. Proof of effort to defend themselves and recorded victory in order to defend themselves from enemy attacks. we can see from the solid gate to the temple and record it at each step.
the beauty of nature and the richness of the culture contained in it makes us recognize the rich charm of Korea.
Thank you @slowwalker for sharing this post.
It's my dream to visit Korea. 💕😉
