Three decades after the Croatian War of Independence and the small town of Vukovar still shows the signs of conflict as a reminder of the consequences of such actions.
On our visit to the local hospital we were escorted down into the basement where we viewed holes in the ceiling above that were created by bombs piercing the floors above making their way down to the basement. Luckily they did not explode.
When we walked up and down the main street we saw many examples of bullet ridden houses which made us wonder how terrified the locals must have been in those days venturing out onto the roads.
The water tower in town also stands unrepaired as a reminder of the ugliness of war. There were holes from motar shells all around the structure.
On the way out of town, we stopped at a building which served as a memorial to all of the locals who perished in the conflict. Each one had the picture the person who had died highighted in rememberance. It was quite a sobering experience and I hope that I and my family would never have to endure what these people went through.

Wow
That's a pretty sobering sight.
Sad to see things like this really.
Hopefully one day will never be a need for things like this to happen
Really sad - but there is always hope
