THE MOST SCENIC TRAIN RIDE IN THE WORLD? ⛰
So we took the train ride from Nanuoya to Ella, which is 1/2 of apparently the most scenic train rides in the world! Well..
Honestly, we kind of felt a bit off with this statement. The very popular train ride was VERY, VERY TOURISTY and busy. As you know us, you also know we like to wander off the beaten path and find ourselves in the most random places at the most random times. Particularly this train ride was a bit like going to the mall for ice-cream. I know, i know it sounds rough but, but... the authenticity in travel is to experience the local ways, even if you have to sweat with 100 other people to experience the views.. as long as they’re real!
Well this ride was just tourist groups pushing and pulling to get to capture that shot hanging outta door!😬
I remember fellow travelers Reisbaas and Agnes agreeing to that after we reflected on our experiences!🙏
SO WHAT WE SUGGEST AS PER A VERY SWEET AND KNOWLEDGEABLE LOCAL ADVICE is to take another train, instead of 7 hours of the well known route take the Ella - Badulla 1hour train ride, with the locals and rarely anyone else, equally if not better views and the real, real Sri Lankan most scenic train ride in the world feel! That’s what we did after learning from our mistake!🙏
Guys who have been to Sri Lanka, how did you like and feel about the train ride? Did you choose an alternative route? Let us know, share your experience! 🤩
Love you all!

I can't bear the touristy thing either. So many people just taking photos and not "enjoying the moment". Thanks for your tips, enjoy your trip! :)

We also try to experience a country away from the tourist crowds. You make a great trip. Sri Lanka is on our list, too.
I know the feeling when people make it something it isn't...but was nice I bet for sure.
A beautiful shot you have shared here
That is a beautiful shot, but I am so with you on finding less joy in the crowded spots! I think that's one of the benefits of not having children--my boyfriend and I can travel (when we actually do go anywhere, haha) in the off seasons since we're not bound to school breaks. I have never actually been on a train like that, so I think it would be fun to go just about anywhere with some nice scenery for the experience!
This is a wonderful experience. Thanks for sharing. I haven't tried doing this and this is definitely a part of my bucket list.

Sorry to hear your disappointment, I miss train travel it was our only mode of transport growing up. Catching a sleeper train, sitting at the window watching the world slide past, nothing nicer!
Overcrowding is due to people really wanting the taste of a slower life, sadly many have lost the true romance of enjoying the scenery, they are so wrapped up in themselves doing selfies, they have actually lost all perspective.
