My parents have been showing me the pictures of their Scotland roadtrip and the main difference is that there is so much rain in Scotland haha! I haven't really done too much exploring around Scotland, only to Ben Nevis a couple of times and some business trips to Inverness. All I know is that the mountains are pretty spectacular and dramatic in the South Island of NZ!

Well, it depends about the rain. I go back almost every year for a month and to be honest, I see more rain in Florida! Lol! My family are all in the north-east which doesn’t get nearly as much rain as the west. We usually head for the spectacular west coast when we see the weather is going to be good! Only once have we not been able to do that! I understand though if you are on a tour or something, you are stuck with being in a certain place on a certain day.
The mountains around Ben Nevis and Loch Ness are not as spectacular as the ones on the west coast and on the isles.
Haha yea Florida is notorious for the daily storm! I've just seen on your profile you're from Bonnie Scotland originally, nice to know a fellow UK Steemian! Yes I've heard the west is notorious for rain but the Highlands, Isle of Skye and the Hebredes are on the list of places to hike around!
I'd probably do my own thing up there and just go for a load of hikes, stay in one place for a couple of days and carry on... Maybe next year 🙂

Yep! I came to the States via Canada. So, I am a citizen of 3 countries. My Dad and my sisters and brother and their families are still in Scotland. The Isle of Skye is our favorite place for scenery and all of Scotland is great for hiking!! There are loads of trails following the old railway tracks for those who can’t climb! Best time to go now is in the off season- too many tourist buses everywhere!!

September is my favorite month to visit, but I go when I can to visit my family. There is a now famous route called the North Coast 500, which Jim and I pretty much did 25 years ago before the idea was trumped up - probably by Scottish Tourism. It is a fabulous drive up the east coast and along the northern coast, down the west coast and then back to the east! I would imagine that the best time to do that would be in September.
Hmmm I've not heard of the North Coast 500. I think Scotland may well have to be on the cards next year (spent all my money on Australia and NZ this year haha)! I do love a road trip so a two week holiday driving around Scotland's coastline sounds pretty damn epic!
