On the upwards shots, the settings always depends if you want a lot of the trunk in focus or just a sliver. If you want a sliver you use a lower f/stop aperture setting. If you want as much of the trunk in focus, you use a large f/stop number. I chose to split the difference and go with f/8 according to the camera data.

You should post this video - super helpful. You're a way better teacher than the photography videos I watch. The demonstration was very good for me bc I am a visual learner. Thank you my friend, I sincerely appreciate you posting this and for the f/stop info.

After I get my taxes done tomorrow....I am hoping to get out and get some bird photos. My lens is not broken. Hurray!!
