While in Belize, the EarthAngel core team visited Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a vibrant oasis that has offered immersive education since 1990.

"Prickly pear cactus, also called nopal, is promoted for treating diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity and hangovers. It is also touted for its antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Some preliminary evidence shows that prickly pear cactus can decrease blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes."

Juan is not upset that dinner will soon be served! It was delicious and plentiful, too. We enjoyed salad, pasta, pineapple upside down cake, watermelon juice (all freshly made), and incredible conversation.

Monkey Bay's Co-Directors, Matthew and Marga Miller, are what I consider a "Power Couple." Together, they unleash so much good into the world, while maintaining a love and regard for each other that inspires. As Marga showed us around, she giggled about the fact that Matthew actually enjoys stirring the compost. THAT is a deep appreciation for the full life-cycle!

There are hand-painted signs with uplifting messages all over the place. Michael pointed this one out to me. It was my favorite sign of all.

Tim, aka "Barefoot Skinny" has a long history with Monkey Bay. He is planning some important hemp awareness events at their beautiful site. Please check out and upvote THIS POST that describes the perception of hemp in Belize... as well as the critical need for us to infuse truth and clarity there.

Such a special place in my heart. This was our homebase when I was a student here in 1996. They are beautiful people who have done some really incredible work. I have lots of love for them and for that place.

Wow, @solarsupermama, I didn't realize you have been in Belize THAT LONG, let alone connected with MB since your beginnings there. Teach/show me everything!!

Haha. Just kidding... kinda ;-)

Well, I didn't come down to stay until 2015, but I've been visiting since my semester abroad in 96. It was incredibly transformative. Matt and Marga's boy, Eli, was maybe 2?
I'm definitely excited to get together once you're here. I'd love to get something going down here in the south.

I didn't even know about the nopal šŸ˜® and diabetes. So now mango leaves (which I have seen lower sugar levels very effectively) and nopal are two viable alternatives to insulin. As with anything though, anyone trying this, please do so at your own risk. It can effect sugar levels drastically or not all, depending on the person. Just be prepared for anything.

Thanks for mentioning the caution, @cmduncan94. It sometimes amazes me how well you care for your Boo, and watch over his levels. Such a great pair you guys are ;-)

Equally amazing to me, is how well our bodies pair with plants for optimal health. If the ridiculous US government would just BACK OFF, and stop interfering with that meant-to-be relationship.

Love the last banner, just saved it. Great pictures @erikaharris!

Thanks, @riceowladam! Yeah, isn't the banner gorgeous?

@eco-alex doesn't want credit for its creation, but he deserves it. :-)

erika.. and riceowladam.. thanks for the appreciation! i accidentally hit 100% upvote. but hey.. thanks a lot!
