Like every work day, I start my day waking up at 6.35 am. Why 6.35 am? Because it's 5 minutes more sleep than 6.30 am 🤣, the first thing I do is go for a hot shower to wake me up. I then make a cup of coffee and wait for my mate to come and pick me up as we work in the same office.
We then wait for the train at the local station and start our journey down to Sydney, about 80km away from home. It takes about 1h30 - 1h35 each way.
As we get to the office, I'll go for a round of coffee and breakfast. We take turns to go an buy coffee for the other colleagues in the same team. Today's was Leah's turn to pay for the coffee but I was on delivery duty.
9.15am, we have our daily stand up where all the team gather together and report about three things:
- What each of us did yesterday
- What each of us will do today
- Is there anything that blocks us from doing our work
Today is a little bit special because, from Thursday, the company will enter the World Cup broadcasting mode. I work for a TV broadcast company and the World Cup is a critical event for us, obviously. So today we did a big last check up on the start of the World Cup frenzy. I will be on night shifts working at really weird hours, like 3 am till 6.30 am or midnight till 2.30 am.
We are getting into the mood with a raffle. $5 per ticket and we get to randomly pick one, I got Russia! I hope Russia has bribed all the referees so that I can win hahaha 🤣
Here is a view from inside the office, it's decorated with many Aboriginals paintings:
The ambiance is great and people are nice and respectful to each other. We broadcast content in over 70 languages, so cultural mix is something we know about.
5 pm, it's time to go home. Same train thingy again, but it's winter now in Australia so the sky is getting dark as we leave the office and it's getting colder and colder.
My mate and I usually use our commute time on the train to either read or do some coding on personal projects. Today I was working on two bot projects, one is @teamvn the Vietnamese community bot and the second one is a contest bot which I cannot tell more about at the moment but it will be released very soon.
I'm now home and the missus is calling me for dinner, so goodbye!

5 min of sleep means the difference between a bad day and a good day! lol So are you going to be the guy who says "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"?
I'm not a footie lol.
I'm currently saying BEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Feeling like a Zombie cuz my body clock has not adjusted yet.
lol well get some rest and stop steemin, hahaha jk. Seems like you got a really cool job though!
Not complaining :-D
Your post was always great, you really know the essence of #ulogs. Also, I really dreamed of riding a train, hopefully train stations would get realized here in Cebu, Philippines as it would greatly help with the traffic problem here. Moreover, hehe as I also play football in my computer, I do know some players, Im rooting for Portugal since Cristiano Ronaldo is there.
Thanks bro. It's not easy to do daily #ulogs, for some, every day looks like every day so we need to be a bit creative and find ideas that are still related to each day.
Commuting by train has good and bad about it. The good is it helps with traffic jams and pollution due to cars, it is more relaxing and you can do personal things such as Ulogging hahaha, it is also safer because long drive after a hectic day can be dangerous etc... The bad is that if there is technical issue then you can be stuck for a long time, if people are sick then you share the germs 😅, you sit a lot doing nothing so not great for health (but the car is the same heh).
Ive been wondering what exactly makes an ulog, an ulog?! Perfect example here! I think a lot of my posts end up being very ulog like. Really, great job!
Thanks
Carpooling/using public transportation is great for the environment and your pocketbook. Those are always a wise choices. I also commute an hour, to an hour and a half when working, but I drive a car. The drive is not bad unless it is during rush-hour on a weekday, but I would still prefer not to drive that far, even in my 31mpg 88 Civic the gas still costs a lot, and my time is also more valuable these days than it used to be.
Whenever I have commuting time and I am not the one driving, I usually use that time to work on Steemit projects/articles as well. Steem on my bredrin!
Depending on your car, driving to work can save you $$ from where Iive. However I don’t enjoy driving back on the highway at night when you are tired and with all the trucks on the road. I had a scary experience once.
At least on the train I can blog, read or just rest.
Where are the self driving electric cars! lol
hah. I’m asking myself this question many times recently.
Wow! What a busy day! Im so not a morning person so I definitely understand the extra 5 minutes. Even through my despise of early mornings, I still managed to only pick up jobs the required me to wake up with the sun. I mean, how is that right? LOL Only thing that got me through was coffee, coffee and more coffee! Looks like you enjoy your job though and your co workers which makes things much easier to handle, like waking up at the crack of dawn! ;)
A good work environment is very important or else it would be hard to cope
Do you ever get used to waking up at 6:35 am every day, or does it continuously depleting? I am wondering because I used to have jobs like that and my body will only let me push it like that for so many months, until it would just give up on me, and would not allow me wake up for my alarm anymore. Now I know myself better and consider this when applying for new jobs. I am just curious how you feel about it since you are still actively living this lifestyle.
Waking up at that time is ok. A friend of mine who was used to wake up at near 9am to work locally, recently joined me here and had to wake up at around the same time too. We are both night owls and he managed to get used to the new time. The most difficult for us is to go to sleep early. I can’t go to sleep earlier than 11pm and most of the time I would sleep at around 12-12:30am so my average is 5h-6h30 of sleep per day. I catch up during the weekend. I try to sleep earlier but it does not last long, there is always something to keep me or my mind busy.
What annoys me sometimes is when I can sleep longer but my body just automatically wakes up after 6hrs of sleep. Or when I’m totally tired but my brain does not agree. My sleep cycle is totally messed up lol.
There are days when I is tough. I try to sleep in the train but no luck. The only way would be for me to stop all kind of activities on the side including Steem. But I will always end up with something new like learning the Didgeridoo, buying a Shakuchachi (Japanese bamboo flute) etc...
I am the exact same way, the owl is actually my spirit guide. When I go through the sleeping patterns that you are describing here I start feeling fuzzy and depleted in the body and mind during the day, and like you said, still cannot fall asleep early enough.
I used to drink coffee, but it causes violent mood swings for me and honestly makes me more tired than awake unless I keep drinking it all day, but then I get horribly depressed/irritated. I had to quit coffee for this reason. It also dehydrated me too much.
I feel like coffee does not give energy but rather helps burn whatever is left. Which is why it is not a great idea to use it on its own when you are very tired. If you can nap (which I can’t easily do) then taking coffee before a nap is more efficient. It takes 45 minutes or so for the body to absorb the caffeine, meanwhile you nap to rebuild your energy that will be burnt by the coffee when you wake up.
Coffee precision lol. I like it.
Wow, what an interesting workplace! Thanks for sharing.
Haha, so I suppose you can watch the world cup and say you're doing it "for work". 😉
I’m not fan of ⚽️ but I will still enjoy it 😋
Hey, I would definitely be giving it a view too. Anything to let the mind wander a bit with a busy days of work!

What do you do at the company @quochuy? It seems like an interesting job working for a TV broadcasting company.
I’m mainly working as a backend developer (PHP) but also do some frontend work (Javascript, AngularJS, jQuery, HTML, CSS...).
Those are rare talents in my circles, and the demand seems to be high for your skill set. If you ever get the chance you should come to the #anarchapulco / @anarchaforko conferences in Mexico in February if you are into blockchain, programming, the freedom movement, and beautiful beaches, pools, restaurants, and hotels for super cheap.
Sounds very interesting. Travelling is always tricky for us. My family being in New Caledonia and my wife’s in Vietnam. Our parents are to getting older as years go by and we currently try to go back with them when we can.
Understandable, if you ever do get the chance to check them out though you will not regret it.
@quochuy, that explains your interest in being a steemit witness. Where did you go to school?
I went to school in New Caledonia and to University in France
@quochuy, I just voted for you to be a witness, I always admire hard workers that also carry honor with them, respect homie.
Thanks for your support! I appreciate a lot.
You are a worthy candidate.
What is your story? Where are you from?
I’ll have to go through your blog to find out more about you 😊
I live in Oregon (west coast U.S.) but am originally from Virginia (east coast U.S.). I am a cannabis farmer, silver/crypto enthusiast, jewelry designer, and conscious Hip-Hop emcee. I am releasing my debut album in less than 20 days! Stay in contact and i will send you a link where you can download it for FREE!
Oh wow! Congratulations!
And thanks too 😊
You work for SBS?? I'm so impressed... best TV station ever xxx
Thanks! We are doing our best to provide a great service and it is hardwork. What type of content do you watch most and which platform?
I watch via sbs on-demand. We like drama like the Handmaids Tale and many of the great foreign series. We also like docos and foreign films. I was raised on foreign films on SBS!!! I looovvveee it's global and multicultural approach. Xxx Australia would be poorer without it. In what capacity do you work there.. is it programming?
On a computer, Smart TV app, tablet?
The Handmaids Tale is a fantastic series for those who can handle the style. I personally love it too. I haven’t had the chance to watch this season yet, was it as good as the first?
I’m working as a senior web developer. For several years I used to be the sole in-house SBS On Demand developer. The team has expanded up now.
The multicultural approach is the essence of the company and we try to live it everyday.
Fantastic. I use the app on my phone and cast to telly. love it.
The Handmaids Tale is great. I loved the book but as they move into SERIES 2 they are doing a great job. And so are you... much much gratitude!!!! ❤❤❤❤
I really appreciate your work alot!!
Thanks heaps! I’ll pass on the love to the team, they will appreciate it.
What a gorgeous tv station.i love it so much.keep it up
It is a great work environment. We have a fairly good amount of social event to get to know all the other member of staff.
The activities of your day was full of merrying. I love the background of your office which yoi displayed having different countries flag. Thats great sign of love and unity.
The company promotes diversity, collaboration and respect amongst other important values.
Those are great values to have, props. Big companies in America usually only pretend to be that way.
Our values are also part of our end of year performance reviews. Amongst various goals to achieve during the year, some of the goals must align with one or more values.
That is a smart way to run a business.
Similar to mine for a long time few years back except the fact that it was 7.30 and the metro stll reminded me of good old days...
Nice description....Thanks for sharing
Where were you and what’s were you doing back then?
What an amazing #ulog to portray your daily hardwork including the fun you're experiencing at work and in your relationship, as well. This makes it relatable and inspiring for us plus, there is an extra security remembrance at the end. I will try my best to be consistent in my path like you and inspire others too. ☺
How do you like living in Australia? That is one place I have always wanted to go. It is in such a secluded part of the world and is all kind of its own thing, the down unda. Have you ever been off the continent? If so, what is it like compared to other places you may have traveled, and what other areas in Australia are you familiar with besides Sydney?
I have also done night shits for months at a time working security before. I was outdoors by myself too, and I have been freaked out by all kinds of creatures making noises in the darkness, especially possums! I bet you have all kinds of strange creatures making noises around your neck of the woods at night. Have you ever heard of a Lyrebird? It is an amazing animal that is only found in Australia.
There are pros and cons like everywhere I guess.
Being isolated is a plus and minus. It probably makes it safer (I think) but it also make sure it less practical to travel. I used to live in Europe for 16 years and I could go for a weekend in another country for less than 100 euros.
It’s too hard to sum up everything, in the end we still appreciate what Australia has to offer.
We’ve always lived in Sydney and the Central Coast. We have visited Canberra and Redcliff QLD.
Sounds like you have had an interesting life too 😄
In the summer you get all sort of sound at night. Especially if you live up north where it is warmer.
I had to go to YouTube to see what a Lyrebird is. Interesting animal, it can even mimic sound from construction fields haha.
Yes the Lyrebird is an interesting one indeed! Did you see the video where they replicated noises they heard coming from a radio and chainsaws in the woods? I am glad you like it there, I can only imagine the night time symphony you hear regularly.
Yea I think that’s the one I saw when I talked about construction site noise it was mimicking.
That is an awesome video. I hope to see one in person at some point in my life.
@quochuy heya!!! Further to our convo about SBS on demand ... my folks were saying that as he scrolls thrpugh the films to see what they might watch. Dad said he hates it because when you scroll say 50 films and click on one to see what its like but decide NOT to watch it... then it goes aaaaalllll the way back to the start of the list again and drives him nuts. Anyway he asked if there was a fix for that??
And Mum said.. make sure I tell you thanks for your work 💙💙💙💙💙
Hey mate. I'll take note of this bug and submit it to the team. We are currently on a harsh night shifts for the World Cup, for example at 3 am (in about 8 hours), I will be have to wake up and work until 7am. Go to bed, then work again from 9pm till 1am. So until that football season ends, bug fixes and stuffs will be slowed down.
BTW, I passed on your kind words to the team and they were delighted. Thanks
Aw thats lovely. No hurry... it's just Dad was super please I knew someone who could fix his problem!! They watch SBS alot!! Xx Enjoy the world cup.. must be a good atmosphere at work.
This is a really good idea @quochuy . Considering many of our fellow steemians and the communities we associate with are all COMPLETELY different in their own way, this gives other an opportunity to "see what you see" every single day and possibly show others what it is like to be in one's shows. I like what you did here and look forward to others possibly doing the same thing!
Thanks!
Yes I like this concept of @ulog.
It gives a human aspect to the nickname. I mean, we know steemians only by what they write on Steem but we don't really know them. It's lacking this connection with the real world.
