Finally, We Eat!
Well, eat better, at least. A little over a week ago, a fellow from Austin, TX responded to Mr. Dreamtree's Craiglslist ad entitled, "Artist Looking to do Portraits of YOU in My Style". He wanted a drawing of his self with his girlfriend. Larry set to work right away and got this drawing done for them. The steps in the process are pictured below.
Larry Dreamtree doesn't usually use white in his drawings but, this time he found it fitting. Behind the male figure, are random, round shapes representing feminine energy. The more angular shapes behind the female figure represent masculine energy. The two energies meet at the top, dissipating into pure white light representing the alchemical perfection achieved when male and female energies cooperate. There are all sorts of hidden things in here. Do you see the mushroom? The two lightbulbs? The "faces" that look like they are from some sort of ancient culture time forgot? Have fun finding things in here. Our client is already happy with the result. Hopefully he tells his friends about Mr. Dreamtree's work!
Also, we are happy to report, we have 420 followers! Too bad we cannot afford pot for this awesome occasion! Even if we could, where would we smoke it? Cigarettes aren't even allowed near this building. Hmm.... yeah, that is Idaho for you. The neighbors are more than happy to snitch!
The following images show the procedure of this drawing. Please note, the picture quality differs from pic to pic, because there is no way to maintain a consistent lighting situation in this apartment.
For the start, there are light, thin outlines to define the basic shape of the figures. The rest proceeds sort of like a coloring book. Filling in the spaces with interlinking, overlapping shapes as he goes.
He does the faces first, considering they are the most difficult part. Especially with this piece, where the faces are smaller than he usually does them.
Yeah, Larry is "prejudice" and likes drawing the ladies more than the guys. It is probably for this reason he kept working on the female side. Lol... He decided that the faces shouldn't be the only blue, so he added "holes" into the clothing, showing some of the network under the skin.
At this point, he thought he might of drawn his self into a corner. He kept puzzling over what to do with the background, as every color had already been used at this point. The finished background is depicted at the top of the post. Below are just some close-ups.
This drawing was done in Prismacolor, if you must know. Our client is paying $200 for this piece. If you wanted something like this for yourself, you could have it done for a similar price. If we did one of these a week at that price, you'd probably never hear us complain again. Well, maybe that is a stretch. Larry can't stand living with his mom. Why is Larry negative? He was literally raised by the most negative person on this Earth.
Much Love!
