Tales of the Urban Explorer: The New Inn

in #urbex5 years ago (edited)

This is the one of FOUR Urban Explore successes, I and @goblinknackers visited quite recently in the playground of Bradford, West Yorkshire.

IMG_9269.JPG

I call it a ‘playground’ as every other building appears to be crumbling, falling down, contains smashed windows or has some graffiti.

IMG_9287.JPG

The New Inn is located deep in a most dodgy area of the city. While driving to this prime piece of architecture, I was told not to look at people too closely or I might lose some teeth. The locals have a habit of swinging at you if scrutinised.

Bearing this in mind, we drew alongside ‘The New Inn’, to find that it is no longer new at all. While some property owners make a conscious attempt to keep the likes of ‘us’ out, these guys don’t seem to give a crap.

IMG_9271.JPG

You could climb through the downstairs windows, but the upstairs ones are securely barred. Good luck on actually getting upstairs. We will come to that little fact later.

@goblinknackers issued me a warning that there may be undesirables inside. The location is right next to a mini shopping area, and so parking was easy and did not attract unwanted attention.

IMG_9268.JPG

While I can find little info on this pub, it has by all accounts been closed for 20 years. There are plans to demolish it, but that can take years.

While some may think these wrecks of buildings are not ‘real Urbex’ and a waste of time, I do love having a look to see what’s left.

IMG_9275.JPG

IMG_9277.JPG

Not surprisingly you can just walk in to what remains of ‘The New Inn’.

Just be a tad careful of crackheads waiting to inject you with used needles, or pissheads who may want you to join them for a swig of their home made moonshine. I’m not sure which option is worse?

IMG_9273.JPG

We were not expecting much when we walked through what would have been the side door; in fact a stable floor that was not going to collapse to the cellar would have been a bonus.

IMG_9284.JPG

Surprisingly the floor was quite decent though parts of it were a little ‘holey’ and you could peek through to where the beer kegs were once kept.

IMG_9276.JPG

This corner was an exception and had collapsed in to the depths of the earth. Was this where the bar used to be? They are generally in one corner but I couldn’t figure out which.

IMG_9278.JPG

IMG_9281.JPG

’the roof was generally very holey. What would you expect after 20 years of being left out in the British rain?’…

IMG_9279.JPG

If you look upward in wrecks like these, you can see what the upstairs once looked like.

Nobody is ever going up there again unless they want to lose the concession that is, ‘your neck is still attached to your body’.

IMG_9282.JPG

These are the steps to the second floor. There are limits to what I will try and climb! The one rung left looked like it would snap if I blew on it too hard.

IMG_9280.JPG

We did keep an eye on this window, in case local thugs decided to harbour a meeting. It is that kind of place. The exit is fortunately in the opposite direction.

IMG_9286.JPG

...’why do people always leave their shoes behind?…. on the beach, you jettison the shoes.., but here?...

IMG_9274.JPG

This was about the extent of the interior graffiti. Some places have more than others; some more educational than others.

IMG_9270.JPG

Cops are not liked in this area, it was just a hunch I picked up on by breathing in the local atmosphere.

IMG_9272.JPG

’is this the door to Nirvana? Sadly we found Lidl outside of it. What a bummer.’

IMG_9283.JPG

The New Inn was a short Urbex jaunt that your granny can visit. There’s little left but little danger to go with it, unless you count tripping over piles of debris.

Apart from the shoes there’s little left to see, not even needles.

Sort:

My parents were suckers for buying wrecks like this. One did get done up and it's a thriving property now (200+ years old coaching inn), another one was still a wreck when it was sold (that was a relief and a blessing).

Even ones that are getting 'done up' can be fair game though if the insides are no longer complete wrecks then they are considered 'off the range'.

I think this one is due for the chopper. The are is not desirable enough to save it.

Another great tour! Thanks!

This was a short and dirty one, probably the worst of the four. Ease of access was it's saving grace!

You could have vandammed the nonexistent stairs up. If you only would have had you maracas with you. Then it would have been easy.

I believe you could have also defended yourself with the maracas. In case of encountering any undesirables. Or is it nunchakus? Yeah, perhaps I was thinking about that.

BTW, undesirables sounds like really bad underwear. And I don't mean good-bad, just bad-bad. Bad to wear, bad to look at.

Most people who do this 'hobby' are much younger than me. I try, but my limits are not so good these days. I still have a sore shoulder by just hauling myself up a wall and that was 3 months back!

I'm really too old for this shit, but still do it anyway!

Good thing your head's attached to your neck still, seemed like an easy place to get some serious body changing surgeries lol. With these posts I kinda get desperate to buy myself a camera so I can go do some Urbex as well. I'll try a bit with the cellphone hope I can get some decent shots.

I use a camera phone for my Urbex. Many other's use DLR's but with all the scrambling and climbing they can get banged up.

If you take time to line up your shots, you can get some decent results. Hoping to see your Urbex material. There's precious little else here besides my own.

I know what you need for all those treacherous second floors... A jetpack!!! :0D

They're scary, don't you think?

They are indeed!

If I could get up there I would. You have seen some of the 'bad stairs' we have climbed up in previous ones!

The ceiling was holey but mostly stable looking. That doesn't mean it actually is!

Have you thought about a drone? That might be handy. One of the smaller ones. Imagine all that footage!

I have.. I bought one and then sent it back. I found it hard to fly and at £500 a big loss if it ended up going somewhere I didn't intend it.

In the winter it would be worse, those howling winds and lashing rain would not do it any good. They still interest me but I don't believe the technology is quite there yet... or at least for me.

@mender1 has already lost one in in an Urbex location. His was cheaper but still £100. It was supposed to return to owner if the signal was lost.., it didn't happen.

Yikes. Those were the kind I was thinking of, the ones that return to the owner in the event of something going wrong. Man, that is rubbish. You are right to wait then!

@meesterboom lol. I thought they havent made ones that can guarantee your safe landing yet.

Lol, such a tribal world we live in today.

It's kind of sad seeing this place in such a dilapidated state. Ironically some of the wooden beams appear to be in ok shape. That's a little strange.

About the shoes.. That is kind of weird too, especially because some of those shoes seem kind of new. In New York, shoes are often thrown over power lines as a "sign".. It's to indicate a drug area to other drug addicts. I don't know if there is any similarity there or not, but it's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the shoes.

Nice photographs, of a rather depressing scene.

He really did warn me about the locale. I mean it's not LA South Central.., but you need to keep your wits about you.

There are many addicts in this city. i was surprised by the lack of needles. Other paces they're plentiful. You may be on to something, but I don't know the 'code'.

He really did warn me about the locale.

I wasn't doubting it @slobberchops. The town I live in has a raging drug problem, and many many dilapidated structures.

Three years ago I was a raging crack head alcoholic, and that shoe thing is definitely a code (at least here). Locals in this area like to ignore/pretend there isn't some major issues taking place. I guess I'm fortunate to have lived the life of a drug addict in some ways, because it opened my eyes a bit more to how people operate/perceive.

Having lived the life of a respected military man, and later a homeless person in addiction, I can tell you that I met many druggies that once lived respectable lives, and society frowns hard upon the fallen ones.

There's not a good excuse for vandalism and the moral destitute state of addicts, but I also don't think it's appropriate for society to turn a blind eye to fellow human beings in such a state. What is the reasoning behind it? Well I think fear is the reason people shun and turn a blind eye, but I think I might have digressed a bit. These are observational opinions based on experience is all.

It's good that you're watchful of needles, the last thing you need is to prick yourself and contract something nasty.

Keep up the great work mate.

Woah.. that's interesting!, I have done stuff myself but never to the needles extent. We came across some dudes shooting up months back who looked terrified. It's in an old post I did.

They were concerned about our perception about them. @goblinknackers gave them a couple of quid for some food. Not sure what they did with it.

Now that place was FULL of needles. I mean hundreds of them. As I said.. i have been laid down not knowing where the fuck I am before.., it's not something I have no experience of.

I shot heroin one time in my life (with a brand new needle that I removed from the package.) That of course was when I was in addiction and pretty much would do any drug available. I consider myself fortunate that I didn't get hooked on the drug, because I can tell you... Heroin is quite the serene feeling, but I guess luckily?.. I was more into the cocaine..

They were concerned about our perception about them. @goblinknackers gave them a couple of quid for some food. Not sure what they did with it.

I'm always hooking up homeless people with a dollar or two when I see them panhandling. I don't really care if they use it for drugs, because I know they are going to get the drug one way or another if that is their objective. (it could be seen as enabling, but I would rather enable than have some old lady get robbed for her purse.)

A guy once asked me to spare 5 dollars because he needed to get some food. I looked at him and said "That is pretty bold to ask for 5 dollars when you are obviously an addict looking to get high or drunk." He insisted that he really was going to spend the money for food so I said "Well, I don't believe you, but here you go, do what ever you're going to do, but I would prefer you just keep shit real." Well.. 10 minutes later I saw the dude walking with a sub sandwich.. I called him over and he was smiling and said "See! I wasn't fucking lying!!" I laughed and said "Here man, and gave him another 5 bucks and wished him well." He took the 5 and said "Now I'm gonna go get some beer and get fucked up with my sandwich!"

Lol, I'll never forget that. Even having lived in his shoes, I still doubted the man was being honest because most addicts will bullshit if they think that will get them some money.

Now that place was FULL of needles. I mean hundreds of them. As I said.. i have been laid down not knowing where the fuck I am before.., it's not something I have no experience of.

Well I'm glad you know where you are today mate! Sometimes I think I traded addiction for Steem addiction, and you know.. I'm ok with that :)

A friend of mine described Heroin as 'boring', he smoked it though.. his barrier was needles.

I was more into the cocaine..

Tried it once.., got the 'jaw' and that was it. Did I get crap stuff? it was expensive too, I felt ripped.

Yeah it was crap lol.

Very nice! I am glad that you were finally able to find one that was accessible. It looks like this one didn't have much in the way of character. Not like some of the other ones. A success is still a success though! I look forward to reading about the other ones!

It's on a busy roadside and the local council's usually pressure the owners to board em up! Not sure what's happened in this case.

The local council is probably made up of the ruffians you described looking for a place to hide.

Oh they just take a few years to decide upon things. That's the way of public services here.

as much as I enjoy abandoned buildings, it looks as though this one has been well and truly scrapped. There's like nothing left there at all! Oh well, good pics and a nice play-by-play regardless.

Thanks, I was hoping to do one while over there. Is that advisable or too many guns / knives / madmen / snakes?

Cool little Urbex visit! Place looks like a total shit hole. I've recent found a good bunch of my old Urbec images that I had lost (located an old hard drive). I intend to share sometime soon. I'll tag you!
