How to Onboard Newcomers into STEEM & Crypto with Steemit

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

One major benefit of Steemit is in serves a natural bridge into the world of cryptocurrency.

It's a place where you find information about cryptocurrency & blockchain technology and get to interact with creators, co-founders, engineers, influencers, among many other people, businesses, and organizations here on Steemit.

And it has a vast diverse content selection besides cryptocurrency. Everything from cooking to music to travel and everything in between. Steemit has so many unique perspectives people are bound to relate to something when they sign-up for Steemit.

So why not harness this to help spread the message of STEEM, cryptocurrency, and blockchain technology?

That is why I created the following guide to help anyone who wants to spread the message of STEEM and cryptocurrencies to others using this epic platform of Steemit as the main tool.

Here is the three-step guide on how to onboard new people, businesses, and organizations into STEEM & cryptocurrency in general by using Steemit as the bridge.

STEP ONE: Build the bridge

Spreading the message of STEEM and cryptocurrency is a process like many things in life.

When in conversation or approaching a conversation, find a way to intertwine Steemit into the conversation naturally.

There is so much diversity on Steemit there is something you can relate to new people, businesses, and organizations.

O you are talking to a musician.

Bring up the awesome original music being created on Steemit and how people pay them with upvotes. And the many awesome challenges they can be apart of to help build their brand, connect, and get feedback on their creations.

O you happen to be talking to clothing company owner and designer that wants to expand their market. Bring up how you can accept STEEM for payment and open a new window of opportunity. Or how designers are building their portfolio and brand by participating in different Steemit community initiatives like the ones run by @officialfuzzy.

The key is to be aware and listen.

People, businesses, and organizations will reveal their "hot buttons" or where to relate to during conversation. You just have to ask relevant questions and actively listen.

Listen for the opportunity to tie in one aspect of Steemit to what is being talked about.

No matter where you are and what you are doing from getting a haircut to talking or flying cross-country you can spread the message of STEEM and crypto by using Steemit as the natural bridge.

STEP TWO: Cross the bridge

Be there with them or on the phone when they sign up for their Steemit account.

Especially with the long, multiple passwords of your Steemit account, it isn't the easiest process for people, businesses, and organizations to accomplish.

Remember we only get one chance at a first impression. So let's make sure their first impression of Steemit is a flowing and efficient process.

I have learned my lesson with this the hard way. Had a few friends excited and then they tried to sign-up and got frustrated not leaving a good first impression in their eyes.

So let's help these newcomers by helping them sign-up and once they are active show them the landscape of Steemit:

  • what do the trending, new, hot, and promoted tabs mean and how to navigate them,
  • what tags to browse to look for certain content that interests and/or relates to them,
  • find some Steemians that interest them for them to follow,
  • show them how to format their posts and which tags they should use that best fits their purpose and message, and
  • how to use their wallet.

Doing these five things for new people, businesses, and organization will allow them to understand, appreciate, and navigate these awesome platform.

They will naturally be exposed to STEEM with payouts, upvoting, and using the internal market. And they will be introduced to other crypto and blockchain technology just by browsing the content on Steemit and interacting with other Steemians.

You can't do this part for them. Make sure they are comfortable and let them make Steemit their own. Each person, business, and organization will have a different goal (s) and overall experiences with Steemit.

You just have to be their guide to help them cross the bridge from fiat to crypto using Steemit as the guiding tool.

STEP THREE: Reinforce the bridge

This is how you make sure the newcomer human, business, or organization see the value of STEEM and crypto and become ambassadors of this great cause.

The more passionate, knowledgeable people and entities spreading STEEM and crypto the better.

To do so maybe do some of the following (plenty of creative options):

  • send a transfer of STEEM to their Steemit account while you are with them so they can see how fast the transactions are and how you didn't pay any fees to do it,
  • help spread their introductory post so that their can see the engagement and feedback that the community has to offer,
  • engage in their posts and leave awesome comments to stimulate conversation so they can see how interactions through the comments work,
  • resteem a quality post from them to show them the network effect of resteeming and maybe they will get a whale vote, and
  • help them sign up for Discord and attend some of these crypto hangouts such as the Bitsahres Hangout and EOSTalks to become more ingrained in the crypto community.

Doing these five things will reinforce the value and benefits of STEEM, cryptocurrency, and blockchain techonology.

This helps these new people, businesses, and organizations grow and thrive in this crypto space with Steemit and STEEM being their first gateway into this new life.

This concludes "How to Onboard Newcomers into STEEM & Crypto with Steemit."

I hope this provides value and helps you spread the message of STEEM and cryptocurrency by using Steemit as the tool to do it with.

Good guide. I think one of the problems is that we ourselves are new, and dont know enough about the Steemit,Steem stuff. I'm new barely a week old, and still "blur" about tags, eco-system etc

Thank you appreciate that.

Definitely understandable and that's why I wrote this so what happened to you doesn't happen to others. It is much better when you have someone to guide you.
