Suggestion for eSteem Surfer: Improvements to the user search feature

A. Components

Recently, eSteem releases a new update to its eSteem Surfer app for laptops and desktop devices running on the Windows and Linux operating system. The eSteem Surfer 2.0.7 came with three major features, one of which was the user search feature in the following and followers listing.

B. Proposal description

The recently added user search feature on eSteem Surfer has so far been a good addition, but I believe it needs some tweaking to be better. Currently, you will need to input the full username of the user and click on the search icon before you can get any results. But what if you are unsure of the right spelling of the name? You'd agree with me that usernames like @anggreklestan and @andrarchy could be hard to spell at a go. The latter has that part that sounds like the dragon magic word “dracarys” in the Game of Thrones and I may be tempted to use that at some point.

C. Suggestion

Improve the search feature on eSteem Surfer in such a way that the user immediately begins to get suggestions after typing in the first letter of the user name. Adding the second letter should narrow down your search results a bit and it continues that way till you are able to see the user you looking for.
D. Mockups/Examples
I have attached below mockups for my suggestion:

Picture 1

The first picture shows how the present search looks like. Even after typing in the user’s full name, it does not come up until I click the search button.

Picture 2

The picture below is the mockup for my suggestion. Once you type in the first letter of the name, it brings up a list of all users whose names start with that letter. As you add more letters, the list is further narrowed down until you see your user.

E. Benefits

Like I mentioned in the proposal description, it will help the user in easily searching for other users despite not being very familiar with the spelling of their names. It also helps in eliminating the time it would take to do trial and error until you get the spelling of the username right.

F. Conclusion

So far, the updates on eSteem Surfer has been at such for a levels with great features being added at intervals. Improving this feature will surely help in making things easier for users.

I totally agree with you, sometimes it is a bit tough to remember usernames given that steemit is used across the world and every part of the world has unique name's not to mention the fancy names used by steemians.
eSteem has been under constant development since its release and the team appreciates suggestions from the users.
The PO has already acknowledged your suggestion and it will be implemented in the next batch.
The development team is busy with the web version right now, so it might take some time.Hello @curtwriter!

Thanks for the review @syedumair...

However, considering that the P.O has acknowledged it as "high-priority", your rating seems a bit unfair.

You tagged it as minor improvement, fine I agree even though I wonder what you will tag a suggestion like "Adding label to user's name".

I wonder how it manages not to have any direct relation to the purpose of the project.

You said the mockups are poor? Can you kindly explain why it is so.

The overall presentation is average... Despite the clear headings and clear writings I used? What else was I supposed to write there?

I read someplace where another user complained about your rating. Please don't make this seem the norm.

Thank you for asking questions! I am more than happy to answer them for you.

  1. No doubt, PO marked your suggestion as high priority but that does not mean you will get a high score for suggesting a small enhancement.

  2. This suggested feature is a minor improvement because it does not impact the functionality or usability significantly. It is just a slight enhancement.

  3. The main purpose of the purpose of the project is to provide an alternative interface for steemit, that is posting, commenting and upvoting along with the "transfers". Anything related to the above mentioned functions is in direct relation with the project.

  4. The mock-ups aren't bad but they aren't of excellent quality as well. Mock-ups could have been better if you had used high quality images. Your mock-ups don't retail their original quality upon zooming. You could have used multiple mock-ups also.
I would still say that your mock-ups aren't poor but I had to choose between excellent and poor.

  5. The title of the contribution should briefly explain the suggested feature which was missing.
In the "proposal description" section you are supposed to write the description of your proposal, not the problem.

Recently, eSteem releases a new update to its eSteem Surfer app for laptops and desktop devices running on the Windows and Linux operating system.

It should be released instead of releases and if it is laptops, it should be desktops.
This is just the first sentence of your contribution, there are a few more grammatical errors in your contribution.
Please keep in mind thataverage is the second best option to choose and that is not as bad as it sounds.

I am sure, I have answered all your questions with good detail but if you still have any doubts, feel free to reply back to the comment or reach out to help channel on our discord.

Thank you for your review, @syedumair! Keep up the good work!
