Intermittent fasting just makes sense against our evolutionary history. We did not evolve in a land of plenty. Our body is well adapted to being without food which leads to more sporadic, yet perhaps more fulfilling feeding periods.
Restricting calorie intake to a few hours also keeps your body in 'food-digestion' mode for a shorter period of time instead of having it turn on and off throughout the day or having it always active.
