MY HEALTH JOURNEY: WHERE IT ALL STARTED

in #vegan7 years ago (edited)

I haven’t always been a holistic health nut but I could say I started advocating for my health around 2012. When I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism I thought I finally found the answer to all my ailments. I suffered from chronic migraines that lasted days even up to some weeks. Along with debilitating migraines I suffered from depression, anxiety, skin sensitives, fogginess, muscle aches and low sex drive. None of this made sense to me since I was in my early twenties.

Why was my body turning against me?

What really changed my thinking of health was in 2014 when I got pregnant. My thyroid leveled out, my migraines disappeared, and everything seemed normal again. I researched organic products, healthy diets, eliminating toxins, and everything natural. Pregnancy really jump started my journey into a more clean, minimal, holistic life. Soon after I had my daughter, symptoms resumed. On top of the prior ailments I was dealing with a self-esteem issues due to my post-baby body and postpartum anxiety that left me never wanting to leave the house.

I just knew there had to be more. I needed to be healthy for not just my own sake but my daughter.

I first began exercising to get rid of the 30 lbs that I had gained during my pregnancy. With exercise my energy increased and my postpartum anxiety subsided. This is when I really started examining my diet. I’ve tried everything to get rid of my migraines but nothing seemed to work. Acupuncture, essential oils, and chiropractic care are just a few things I tried. I thought eating organic meats and vegetables, drinking lots of water, and exercising were enough. It’s not until one day I decided to really take my diet seriously.

One year ago I said enough was enough. I began my journey eating a whole foods plant based diet. I only cook vegan at home and a few times when I’m out I’ll be more relaxed on my diet. Hopefully one day I can fully transition into veganism. It is the only thing that has reduced my migraines. I went from having a migraine 5 days a week to 2 a month. This has really been life changing for me. Eating vegan has opened up so many other opportunities for me. I can now focus on starting my business with my husband instead of dealing with my health issues. I now understand the importance of what we put in our bodies. I’m extremely excited for what the future holds for my family. I will never turned back to a Standard American Diet.

This is awesome! Diet def will help with all sorts of issues that your body could be dealing with. Your body might be more sensitive to the different types of foods than others. I wonder what triggers your migrains. I know that dairy was a really big factor and the wheat gluten for me. I had to get rid of almost all of those things. Also eliminating soy which was a big factor in my diet. Well glad your on a healthy road!

I would not be surprised if the culprit is mostly dairy. I feel like a lot of my migraines were due to hormonal imbalances. Eliminating meat also has its perks. :) Thanks so much!
