Health Benefits of Broccoli
Broccoli is so rich in vitamins, nutrients and in fiber. It contains Sulforophane, a compound present in cruciferous vegetables that is believed to fight cancer.
Broccoli is also rich in vitamin C, B1, B2, B3, B6, beta-carotene, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. In addition it has low calories while providing fiber. It is also a great source of vitamin K and folic acid.
Now lets look at the benefits of these nutrients.
Vitamin K is great in assisting many proteins function optimally but also is essential in blood clotting process-so you don’t bleed to death in case you get a cut.
Vitamin C- most of us might be familiar with citric fruits as a great source for vitamin C, but broccoli is another decent source for this vitamin.
Vit C helps in building collagen for the formation of body tissues and bones; there fore it is essential in the healing process from an injury. It is also a powerful antioxidant and so protects the body from the damaging effect of free radical.
Fiber – is essential for a healthy gut functioning. It also helps to lower your cholesterol levels.
Potassium- this is essential for the proper functioning of nerves and heart contractions. (A lady at wok always tells me that when my fingers tingle it means I might be low in potassium, now that makes sense).
Folic acid is necessary for the formation of new blood cells in the body.
Who can tell me what is the recommended way to consume broccoli for optimal nourishment and why?
Is it raw, fried for 2 minutes, steamed for a few minutes or microwaved for 2 minutes?
The first right answer gets a full upvote.

Hello @leggy23, the truth is that brocolis is very complete and beneficial for our body. The correct way to prepare the broccoli is steamed for a few minutes and so make the most of its vitamins and benefits. Very good and complete your pots. regards
You are mostly correct. It’s best cooked steamed. Even though it’s more nourishing it the raw form, our bodies are able to better breakdown and absorb its nutrients in a lightly steamed form.
California produces 90% of the US broccoli. Perhaps we should rename California as the "broccoli state."
I had no idea, thanks for sharing.
Lolzzz funny
Broccoli is healthy and delicious. I like to cook it with lots of garlic.
I tend to just eat it raw or lightly steam it.
And I have never tasted broccoli before...
The way it looks sef, I have a feeling it may have a not too sweet taste
haha...it tastes really good depending on how you cook it
Ooo ok..
I guess some day I will try it.
It’s not sweet and its quite crunchy unless it gets cooked like other vegetables.

I feel we are related somehow, I think it's high time this Nigerian traces his link to Cameroon.
I do make my broccoli by steaming for few minutes. I discovered that many times after steaming, I feel the urge to taste it, and I mostly end up eating half of it.
It does not grow in our country. We get it a little here. It included a lot of vitamins. I am surprised.
I know broccoli as a vegetable that contains lots of vitamins and other nutrients useful for the body, especially if cooked by a great chef would taste very good..
