All this geek stuff is totally not my cup of tea - when it comes to this sort of thing I don't know shit from chewed dates...
But I'll have a crack at explaining this because people keep asking me what is going on.
A few months back I was telling everyone I follow on Hive to tag their posts with #pob (or #proofofbrain) – that was mainly because I had turned all my attention and voting to the POB front ends, https://www.proofofbrain.blog/ and https://www.proofofbrain.io/ and unless you tagged your post #pob I probably wouldn’t even see it, let alone vote for it.
I’ll try not to have another big bleat about Hive being trashed by whales and insider accounts downvoting, but I did pack a sad and power down all my Hive, which on all my accounts totalled nearly 250k HP.
I won’t be investing in HP again because everything I post on Hive is downvoted – all my posts and comments, and the same is happening to many of my friends, so I've moved most of my voting power into VYB where there will be no downvoting.

As far as my own accounts go I’m still fine tuning things but what I'm aiming for is:
Hive (total in all my accounts) = just 100HP - this is a huge drop from 250000HP, but I've had a gutsful of the downvoting. I’ll leave my autovotes running but they won’t be worth anything.
POB = 10k staked.
VYB = 120k+ staked - and this I'll let grow.
All my VYB voting will be manual and done from @frot – I won’t be deliberately doing any autovoting on VYB and am in the process of checking that my 10 old autovote accounts don’t have any VYB in them because VYB is against autovoting, self voting, and down voting. Great!
So my votes in VYB will be by far the most valuable ones I’m doing.
If you tag your posts with both #pob and #vyb you will earn both, as well as Hive tokens, but bugger all Hive from me because my votes are near to worthless in Hive now.
When using tags, #pob and #vyb are short, quick to type, and easy to remember – but you can use the long form tags #proofofbrain and #verifyyourbrain instead, or as well, if you prefer.

Good to see more options available and Hive's second layer stepping up to meet the needs of its members. All someone had to do was act. Hopefully this ends the longstanding feuds and folks can go back to creating some interesting content, rather than complaining about a problem that no longer exists.

What's equally frustrating is the rift those outspoken against downvotes on this platform enforce. You're either with them and chant the same slogans or they hate you... LOL
That makes it difficult to come together and actually solve the problems. That attitude is the main reason it's gone on so long and seemingly applied to everything. No middle ground to enjoy. Putting up walls like that is a form of self-censorship but for those inside it's hard to see it along with the damage it creates for themselves.
Do you find it odd those claiming to be censored are actually quite loud? If there are only two positions to take on covid for instance, why is the one saying it's censored so much louder than the 'other team'. If they are anti-covid and anti-vax, where is the pro-covid and pro-vax side and their content on this platform? Virtually nowhere.
So that's the kind of stuff you get to see when exploring beyond the walls as an observer of all things. And based on my experience, this middle ground place by far is the most lonely and heavily censored. That position is virtually nonexistent due to the polarizing nature of this business of politics in media, and that's by design. The real, true, 'conspiracy' happening on this planet in my mind is, by design, the loud group claiming to be censored and shouting anyone who doesn't think the same way out of room is slowly but surely marching itself into a segregated mental/social virtual concentration camp. Once they're all in there the big hairy monster they fear the most can simply flip off the switch or light the match.
Now that you mention it, I haven't noticed pro covid measure posts here. I was referring to the censorship on all of the mainstream social media places, where yeah, there's a ton of 'wear your mask, and trust the science and get your shot', while posts of people talking about a personal bad experience with anything above are being removed. Especially medical staff- for example I have a cousin (RN) who recently wrote that almost all of the current covid patients at her hospital are fully vaccinated,and there are many people in there with shot related issues...not only was the post taken down, she was booted for a couple days.
But I absolutely agree that it's by design.
Division and confusion are big parts of the media agenda. I know people who refuse to visit with "unvaxed" family and friends, and I also know people who are the other way around. For the most part those people label themselves things like conservative or liberal, but there's also anarchists, progressives, voluntaryists, democratic socialists blah blah etc.
I don't believe in any of it. To me it's all bullshit, all the way around. Constructs that form boxes around people so they can no longer see another point of view.
And it's ludicrous at this point, one side saying I'M AWAKE" the other side saying "I'M WOKE", both not realizing that they're using buzz words that have been fed to them, both serving a purpose that is not their own.
I've been lucky with my friends and family, we all have always just agreed to disagree when it comes to anything political or religious, and that hasn't changed. We all still get together and love each other's company.
Mostly I'm just hanging out in the audience of the play these days.

I powered down my Hive to just over 200HP as well. Not for the reasons you did. I needed the extra money for a bit. In that time I kept powering up POB and other Layer 2 tokens. Though I do agree with you. For now I'll probably let my hive grow every so often and then will power it down to where it is here. I will be focusing on #pob and #vyb myself and posting in places like #informationwars and #deepdives (when I think I did a deep dive). I am hopeful for #vyb. In my opinion it is the centralization of power followed by downvoting that made steemit/steem unattractive in the long run. I do see the same thing happening here. Hell I had someone downvote my post where all I was talking about was that my dog of 12 years just died in my arms and I was heartbroken.

The way VYB is set up, even if you can't see your wallet, it will be auto staking your new tokens, and every vote you do is earning you more VYB tokens, so using Peakd is fine.

I'm glad you've found a way to stick around for a bit, and I think the strategy is better, there is no sense in "exposing DPOS" for being DPOS.
But there is a lot of sense, in creating some thing new of value, which there is a market for and making the enduser less reliant on the old guard.
With the success and financial maturity of several projects there is a powershift happening that not many see yet. Keep watching, you'll spot it.

Am curious however, what is there to stop the same thing happening on POB?
They don't have the vast holdings of POB that would allow them to dominate as in Hive. But POB does still have downvoting, so someone like me can't earn author rewards on POB either because I have to have them turned off as I'm being attacked in Hive.
VYB on the other hand is seperate in that regard with no downvoting. So my posts are now being paid out in VYB while turned off in Hive and POB.
My hope is that if VYB ever comes under serious attack from the Hive insiders, a hard fork would be possible.
But this is all way over my head!

Who originally set up Steem?
Funny thing, I was invited to Steemit twice in 2017... from multiple parties...
I studied the network then it wasn't until 2020 that I had to time to Steem It. By that time it was forked to Hive, so i joined both networks.
Anyway, I see this platform made the same fundamental mistake as the stock market where the early users dominate and the new users don't have a chance or a fair share. Not only that, they are disrespected and told to get in line.
I witnessed the Natural Medicine Community that doesn't defend it. But the worst thing, too many Nazi like government collaborators who spread disinformation. Knowingly or unknowingly.
We should FORK to something new.
What it does have is big budget development - I think Blurt has forked too early and missed all the high tech stuff. But I hope to see a fork in the future that leave the Hive-cabal behind

Over the past six months the downvoting on Hive has become really heavy, very obviously trying to censor non approved content. For example, my posts about the coronahoax have been nuked by up to 60 downvotes.
So I'm very keen on this VYB project.

What I like about Blurt is no downvoting and a friendly community.
So what holds me back? Firstly it's like Steemit in 2017 - there is very little development, and I must admit I like to see some bells and whistles,
And it's only a small crew of people compared to Hive. I'm following about 300 people on Hive, and most of them will tag their posts #vyb if we keep reminding them for a few weeks.
Only about 30 of them are on Blurt, and if I had to I could run with that, but if we could get VYB firing on all cylinders I think it could really take off fast

Does the tag #pob support #vyb also automatically? And vice versa, does the #vyb tag also support the #pob tag? Or are they two separate tags, that have nothing to do with each other and when a VYB staked upvotes a #pob post, nothing happens?
They are technically two separate tribes and two separate tokens. The complementarity of the two was a conscious decision made collectively by me, @scholaris, and @calumam, with concurrence by @proofofbrainio.
During these first few weeks, a few things are being done differently, just to make things interesting and to generate some special vybes for VYB.
So, with that said, for the first couple weeks:
After this initial ramp-up period, any post that uses #pob or #proofofbrain will automatically earn VYB (in addition to POB), but not vice versa (i.e. using #vyb or #verifyyourbrain will NOT automatically earn POB, unless @proofofbrainio chooses to add those tags to POB's scotbot settings).
Thank you for the detailed answer! I will probably create a VYB curation service as well, but one step after another. Have to manage ten other curators first but soon we will have an awesome way for whitelisted curators to call our curation accounts to good content.

Well I've been snooping around and most likely being a pain in the butt for some while challenging folks to get their act together. As far as I know there could be three more on the horizon all stemming from 'recent events' so that's a good sign. These tools don't need to be collecting dust. I see these issues some are facing as a blessing in disguise. That energy just needs to be focused on being productive rather than making people feel defeated. Away for four months, came back, and it looked like folks were just sitting on their hands. It's a releif to see this spring up seemingly out of nowhere.
I think my only concern with this project is scaling up while having to manually enforce the rules. And those rules are fair, but strict. Roughly how many active users do you think can be managed in that fashion?
Well, some degree of automation is in the works -- especially with respect to dropping comments to warn suspected abusers that their accounts are being or will soon be scrutinized. More than that, though, is the planned development of 'systems' to enable individual users to help monitor and moderate.
It is an ambitious undertaking. I am truly grateful to have @scholaris and @calumam helping to get this project launched. And, it is an experiment. Adjustments can be made along the way, to adapt to important lessons-learned.
The automated message. That's been done before. It can get ugly if the one on the receiving end would prefer to keep their secret and carry on with the suspected abuse.
Even as groups 'policing' potential cases of abuse dropped the automated message and switched to an automated small downvote, those on the receiving end are quite often disgusted with it. Could be a clear case of consistent proven plagiarism or identity theft; the one receiving the message is not happy, at all, to the point of writing a daily diary smear campaign or simply being overly dramatic and disruptive within the community. It doesn't always turn out like that but it does go that way, sometimes.
I saw it a lot though in the early days when folks showed up from all over the world expecting a free-for-all. Be very careful with how that message is worded. Something like, "Hello, your account is due for an audit shortly. Please be certain you've been following these rules..." could be a lot less abrasive and alarming than, "Hello. You're up to no good and we know it."
This is a good question, I'm getting confused about this stuff because it's all being changed over the first two weeks. But in the meantime, use both tags and you can't go wrong.

I am more interested in the curation part as in the author side of it. I just started the @pob-curator service as part of the @curation-cartel (subdivision of 1UP and the Cartel). Hence the interest in what tags we can upvote with POB stake and what tags with VYB stake.
I think it will work for curating POB posts in a few weeks but don't quote me on that!

The really big drawcard with VYB is that there is no downvoting so people like me who are having every post downvoted to zero are really hanging out for it.
The other thing is that some of the most onto it guys I've met on Hive are develping it and they seem to be genuinely open minded to seeing what works best rather than just trying to get rich quick.
So for the first time in many years I'm using the blockchain with the feeling that it is progressing towards fair rewards and better quality content.
I've got some Waiv too and know nothing about it al all - 500 staked worth $88 - presumably an airdrop but I don't know what it does... Been meaning to ask around but have been focussed on VYB.

@frot, your personal stance that you have taken on Vyb, POB and Hive seems pretty well reasoned out to me :-) I have high hopes for everything that Vyb promises to be, per the Whitepaper, and am personally quite excited for Vyb's future! It certainly has a great bunch of people leading the project and most of the decisions taken with Vyb appear to have been well-considered, measured responses to some of the adverse impacts of things that we currently see on Hive in general. I do hope that you find it a place that you can call home, both as a writer and curator 🙏
Yes, I've seen really intelligent discussion of it for nine months, and although it's mostly over my head, I get the impression they will think of solutions, test them out, and change them as needed. A process that Steemit and Hive have never really done.
So I decided to get fully behind this project and see what can become of it.

It's too bad all this is even necessary. Hive (and before it, Steemit) has a long history of self-destructive behavior. And, just when the blockchain fixes one existential problem (bidbots), another arises in its stead (downvoting abuse).

VYB has blocked several of the biggest Hive problems - downvoting, self-voting (using alt accounts and circle jerk groups), and bot voting. It will take more work to stop spam etc, and I imagine the hive cabal will throw in plenty of that, but there are really intelligent people applying themselves to making it work.
I think you made a wise move. Looking for a greener pastures is just the way life is supposed to be. Welcome vyb to the hive blockchain.

After years of watching so many of my Hive friends being driven off the blockchain, I am really hanging out for a downvote free platform.
And for the first time in 5 1/2 years I'm in a position to give upvotes to the content I want to support, knowing that my votes are not going to be wiped out on day six.
At the moment my favourite photographer on Hive is having all his posts downvoted to zero by the same whale who downvotes everything I post. This is deranged. We need to be able to vote for the content we want to vote for, and VYB will hopefully be that place.

I'm here to share awareness of how to solve for the psychopaths in control, which includes adding free energy tech so We don't have to account for Our energy added (use money in any form, from trade/barter to electronic bits). Where We ALL can live like the multimillionaires We are but with no need for money to do so.

Make sure you add both tags - #pob and #vyb - then you will earn both tokens along with your Hive
The longer tags #proofofbrain and #verifyyourbrain work the same way but you don't need to use both the long and short tags.
This regular downvoting really confuses me sometimes. I would love to be on Hive but these things on regular basis are very demotivating. Anyways I continue for sometime and see the patterns. Though I do not see my name on the list, I would be using the #vyb going forward.

@frot. Wow. That is a great initiative. I am unfortunately not in the list of names in your post but hope someday I will be worthy of attention. I was active earlier in Steemit and then took a long gap from all social media due to a personal tragedy. Now I am back on Hive and am trying to learn all the new things. Had already tried Proof of brain tag but didn’t get much visibility on my posts. Anyway, will keep trying and also use #vyb. All the best for the new endeavour.
