Walk with me at Kroger b4 the storm!

in #walkwithme7 years ago

Good Morning! #walkwithme through Kroger , our local grocery stor before a “the big storm”.

I’ve heard that KY gets some snow but come on, I’m from Denver how bad can it be??

Ok I think this is super comical & probably a little more than it shouldn’t be!

As I mentioned in my introduce yourself post I’m originally from Colorado, where we get our fair share of snow & cold weather. Its not abnormal to get 3 or 4 or more feet of it in one snow fall . We moved last year to KY so we were here last winter , I’ve had been told that it was the warmest winter they have had in a long time! I just roll my eyes when someone says that because they don’t know what a snow storm really is. Lol

Yesterday afternoon it was 60* & sunny , quite beautiful if u ask me. We went on a nice drive in the country. Not a great pic but u get my drift, it’s nice out.

Well let me tell you, the news has been saying we are going to be getting an ice storm with about 3” of snow. Me being from Colorado , I’m like ok no biggie we will just hang at the homestead for a few days, get some flurries, it will be cold, Kids will be in school, no big deal..

So I decided to go to the grocery store last night to pick up a couple things like bread, milk , eggs & maybe a couple snacks so I won’t have to go out the next couple days due to the “in-climate” weather we are suppose to have for the next 2 days.. then it’s gonna warm up..

I walk into the store & these people
are freaking out! The lines are backed up into some of the isles. Lines are a good 15 min wait! I couldn’t believe it !

Like u would think we are about to have about 20 ft of snow come down and DEVOUR our little town! NO joke! The shelves were EMPTY of all of the essential stuff, u know like ....

Bread...

This just blows my mind! I’ve never seen anything like this. In Colorado if we got 5ft of snow all the kids were glued to the tv’s in hopes that school will be closed, anything less forget about it! But NOoo we gotta get up and make the track through all that snow to get the kids to school!

Yesterday while out on that drive in the beautiful 60* weather we got a message on our phone saying that schools were already canceled due to the weather we may be having?

This is a pic this morning a cold 29* windy morning @ 8:15am.. The calm before the storm?

Hopefully it’s not as bad as everyone thinks it’s going to be! But we are hunkered down ready for what ever this storm brings us! Keep warm & stay safe KY!

Wow, that's unreal! I grew up in Gander, Newfoundland and last year we had a storm that broke a 100-year record, about 6-8 feet of snow in one falling. People were driving snowmobiles on the streets. I think we are the same as you when it comes to snowfall and being used to it. It amazes me when people freak out over snowfall and winter storms. I lived in Ontario where they called in the Army to help with a city storm. Where I was like wow, this is nothing, even though to them they felt the city was crippled. Anyway I hope it's not too bad would love to see follow up shots. Be safe all the safe.

In Colorado we had many of blizzards were hundreds were stupid enuf to go out & get caught on the highways where the city had to go rescue these idiots! If this storm gets anything the town will pretty much Shut down! EVERYTHING will be closed!

I think there is a cycle.I recently went to northern India and there is a record snow which led to block of national highways. Then the army came to rescue.
I salute the army . They work so hard for the country.
Thanks

Yes thank you to all our Military service members! Thank you for ur reply.

Hahahahahha oh man I am from colorado as well I remenber those days going to school no problem in a slight blizzard. Playing in the snow in just shorts and a short sleeved shirt. Also being born in texas they are the same way when it snows. Going through basic training at fort knox we had decent snow in the winter but gnarly lighting storms as well as the start of a tornado forming right over us during P.T. didnt know they freaked so much over snow though

Were u there as a child? Where u had to base your Halloween costume around the weather.. we always had to wear coats over them! First snow of the year was usually on the day of or a couple days b4! We trick-or-treated manya Times with snow on the ground!

Yes mamm i grew up in colorsdo till about 3 to 18 yrs old.the mask was the most important part gotta have pants and a jacket or a gnarly warm costume like the grinch or one of those ewoks from star wars hahahahahaha still went out and got it done though eh I live the snow though how peaceful and quite it makes everything like the world says take a lunch break everybody you have worked hard this year

Haha yes a very good mask & warm clothing! We would try to put it over our coats if possible! Then we looked like the kid in A CHRISTMAS STORY! Lol

HHahahahhaha I love that movie watch it darn near every year always dreamed about having a red rider beebee gun.hahahahahha right in that was an awesome vision in my head right there. With that kid who cant even out his arms down or get up when he falls down hahahahahaha what a. Classic movie

Pics or it didn't happen... 😂😂

My mind and my genuis level imaganation is all I need to make it real.

It is good that you are prepared. I have to say that is pretty funny. I am from Alberta Canada and we only shut down the school buses when the temp gets to -30. Not sure what that is in Fahrenheit . I would love to see some pictures after the storm happens. Stay warm

If I converted that correctly that’s pretty cold!! About -22F I’m not sure I’ve ever been exposed to weather that cold!! Brrrr I’ll keep everyone posted !

Stay warm.

Will do ! & u do the same it’s looking a little chilly there this evening too! 😉

Wow, this is a very scary #walkwithme! It really shakes me up to see how fast the grocery stores can be emptied out like that, we're more vulnerable than we think. I'm glad reading you're on a homestead, that's good, the more self sufficient we all become the better.

Lol @ homestead.. sometimes we use words differently here.. I used to call my house a homestead because that's what my dad called it.. she's not on a homestead like you're picturing.. Little House on the Prairie style.. but she's definitely in the country instead of trapped in this asphalt jungle like I am.. the stores running out of groceries is real tho.. especially in the south when they start talking about snow..I was in Little Rock, AR the one time they got snow.. like 4".. there wasn't a Ramen soup to be had for miles.. Wal-Mart missed the bus not having snow shovels in stock..

Dave is so correct on that one! But I am getting closer to it! I moved outta that big ol city, thank goodness ! Hoping to get a home with some land in the next year so , so that I can start gardening again! I really miss it & have been unable to for way to long! I did grow some herbs in my backyard, this last summer! 😁

Getting out of the city is a good first step! I wish you a great growing year, even if it is herbs! Free herbs are great :) ahahaa :) #FoodIsFree

🤣 what a great comment to be the first thing I read this morning!! 😊 Thanks & good morning!

Wow ... snow is a big deal in KY just like the hurricane is here. People get panic and empty the store shelves. Stay safe and keep warm!

We are trying to! It’s pretty cold out there! I just made a batch of loaded baked potato soup & turned it into a post to share with all of you!

LMAO... that's funny right there.. How much snow y'all expecting?

You better grab those last Lunchables..

Nothing ! Lol about 3” 🤣

Time for @hustleking to start a snow plowing business 😂

It hasn't snowed, these people just exagerrate LOL

Exagerrate is an understatement!! 😂

I’ll believe it when I see it! it was supposed to start at 6am I thought! When “K” saw that picture she asked if I got her some lunchables! Lol

i accept your proposal....
but it is only funniest
thanks

Working in grocery stores in Colorado Springs, you can always tell who the out-of-state people are, cause they're the ones grabbing the essentials two days before hand and talking about school closures.

Hope if you get snow it's not that bad!

So far NO snow! Just a bunch of rain which is instantly freezing! So there’s a couple sheets on everything outside! Thanks for stopping by!
