This what I do in the days of Covid-19...
I suppose I'm just trying to record history. Hopefully one day I can look back at all this and remember how we all survived. I walk around for hours and take photos. I'm up to 15 km or more daily. I don't walk fast and I do avoid coming close to any other humans. We wave to each other from across the street. Most people are becoming more friendly, but only at a distance.
Cycling through the war-zone
I try to find some beauty every day. It's actually pretty easy because most things haven't changed, at least on the surface. Above: Looking down the hill towards my house. My street is one of the last to have cherry blossoms in bloom. The blossoms have faded and fallen in most areas.
Let's look at some flowers first... above: a pink tulip.
A magnolia tree in blossom
Red Currants... one of my favourites and these seem to stay in bloom for a long time.
I promised you Deer in the title. Here's a doe walking down my street. They seem to have become more active during the day as the streets have become less busy.
Above: two fawns from last year. Perhaps 'fawn' is the wrong term... what would you say, yearlings?
Above: 4 PM today. A normally busy street is completely empty.
The buses are running, but almost empty. The city no longer charges for a bus ride. You have to enter and exit through the side door and stay well away from the driver.
Playgrounds are deserted. Many of them have yellow police tape and signs warning people to stay away.
Tent cities are springing up in most parks. This used to be illegal, but now the rules have been relaxed. I'm glad that the homeless are not being harassed by the police. These people are in more danger than most.
Almost home... I walk through the little square in Fernwood. Everything is closed.
A collection of signs from store windows. Be safe, everyone. Hope for better days to come!
This is my post for the #wednesdaywalk challenge, hosted by @tattoodjay. All photos were taken by me, @keithboone.
hello, here we can not go for a walk, only shopping and the one with a dog to walk him on his block
those photos are beautiful as always
happy quarantine
I hope you are all well
Thank you very much. Please stay safe!
Thank you very much, @qurator!
Looking on the positive side, the one thing I love about this "time" is how Nature is re-claiming its space. Yearlings or I like calling them teenagers... lol. Keep safe, my friend :)
Thank you, @ackhoo! I'm glad to see you here :-)
You're always welcome, Keith! Glad to see a friend here too!! :)
Thank you, @pixresteemer!
We aren't allowed out at all
I'm sorry to hear that, but you need to follow whatever the local rules are. I think in my area the infections are still less common, but we are all told to keep a distance from others. It can be difficult to do, but I still go outside while keeping very far away from others... not 2 metres but more like 20 metres!
A greta walk post love the mix of natural beauty and stark reality of the situation, I am glad they have eased up on the homeless, I was talking to my wife about that yesterday and how bad it must be for them
I would love to be out walking like you are being stuck indoors is driving me nuts, but I have to follow doctors advice and stay indoors with it not only being the virus going around but also being allergy season
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk
I agree, follow doctors orders! I had a video-appointment with my doctor yesterday and discussed what I've been doing. Thank you for keeping this challenge running. Stay safe!
Yes best we listen to our Doctors of course
you to stay safe and Healthy
Hey Keith, great shot of our hometown, thanks for sharing and hope you and family are staying healthy. All the best. Scott
Thanks very much, Scott. It feels very strange here right now. One moment everything feels normal and the next moment the harsh reality sets in.
Howdy sir Keith! Man that place looks like a ghost town! Amazing. Down here in our nearest town where we get supplies it's a jammed and busy as ever, traffic is even worse than normal.
I think everyone is using the time off to go places. The highways are more crowded with trucks than ever also, parking lots are full, stores are jammed, it's crazy.
You guys bothered by this? I couldn't be less worried myself but I feel bad for people who are in poor health. That has to be stressful for them.
Hello there sir Janton! It's still pretty busy downtown, lots of car traffic but fewer people walking on the street. The stores aren't too busy, but then again we go early in the morning so perhaps they're more packed later in the day. Yes, I'm a bit worried but the news in BC seems to be improving slightly. There are only 76 confirmed cases on Vancouver Island, but over 1,200 in the entire province. Like everywhere else, it's hitting the elderly the hardest. I'm a bit concerned myself because my wife and I are both 65, so that's getting close to the 'target' age group... but we're in pretty good health overall and trying hard to be safe.
Do you see anyone wearing masks in your area, or would get you shot for being an outlaw? :-)
Howdy again sir Keith! I read yesterday that the average age of the invected by the virus is 44 yrs old but of course the elderly are being taken out more often because of other health issues.
The last two times I went to the store there was one person on each visit that had a mask on. That's a good point about outlaws though. lol..I wonder if any bank robbers have taken advantage of this yet? They wouldn't raise suspicions by going into the bank with masks!
