Good job Microsoft

Today I just installed the popular April Update on my PC, mostly because it promised some security improvements.

Now my PC crashes when I try to overclock it even with 100 MHz. Not to mention that it moves much slower.

That was it, I am proud to have April update on my PC!

And here are a few words more or less about me.

Haven't used Windows in 3 yrs and not missing it for a second... well, I don't need it for my work...
Just undo the Update 😉

It needed to restart itself more than three times in order to complete the update. I am scared to make a roll back honestly, at least not right now, but after I back up everything I need.

How come that you haven't used Windows for so long, what do you use at home?

I only have a MacBook Air which we hardly use because lately the smartphone does most of what I need to do... I was a Windows user for 20 yrs, and for about 4 yrs I had both systems ,but slowly I fell in love with the way things just simply worked on Mac...

I might start to use Linux in the future, but for me Windows is better than mac for programming, but yes, on Macs, things simply work.

I started to use Linux also, after I have made a dual boot on my PC. I often switch between them, but I find Windows more straight forward in a lot of areas, including programming for the technologies that I use at work. Having a second OS is simply fun :D

Is Linux fully functional for web browsing or do you experience problems with some websites. I would like to get rid of the windows crap because of these constant updates but I am afraid that Linux might not pass certain "standards" or "security requirements" like for online banking and there is not much of a choice anymore...

From the security point of view, you have nothing to worry about. Linux is more secure than Windows. This is why many servers are using it as operating system. And right now, Linux has a great progress, and a lot less issues of stability than it used to have. You should not have any problems with drivers or anything like that because it detects them automatically, and from the performance point of view, it is way much better optimized than Windows. I am using it for a couple of months and it is running as well as it did in the first day, even though I have installed a lot of programs on it.

And another important part is that it is free. You can chose to donate, but you don't have to pay anything for a complete version of it. I have installed Ubuntu and I wanted to donate, but I needed paypal for that so I made them a suggestion to accept donations in crypto also ;))

My computer said it had a boot failure when it tried to do its first restart in the update...

But then I restarted it and it worked again! When in doubt, restart...

Yeah, I restarted it also, but I still can't overclock after this update. I guess it is one of the safety aspects that were implemented :))

I have finally found out that enabling useplatformclock as in this thread solved the OC issue.

At the moment I can't even update the Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 on my PC.
The operating system (Windows 7 Build 7601) is not activated (I don't have a Windows 7 license), I just installed the operating system as a trial version.
It says it's not genuine, so the updates don't work.

I only have an original Windows XP SP2, but that's old and the installer disk (Toshiba Software recovery) is specifically for the Toshiba A110-110 laptop only.

I will probably install some kind of Linux distribution on my PC in the near future.

I know what you say, I had never activated windows, just disabled the services which prompt the genuine messages and disable the updates. W7 is still the best OS that Microsoft ever made. It is simply mature and stable. A lot of companies just stick with this one because it is so stable. I was sad because I couldn't install it on my home PC, but its drivers were only avaiable for Windows 10, unfortunately...

pai daca tu ai instalat, de ce tragi la raspundere pe altii?

I allow myself to criticize Microsoft because I have some expectations from one of the most important software companies of this world, especially when they release a major update, once at a half of year.
