I'm So Over The Snow - Come on Spring! - by Sunscape

It has snowed more in the past month than in the past three years. This is my 2 layer cold frame with some of the snowfall on top.

This was three or so days later and it just keeps on coming.

My husband has been doing his best to keep up with all the clearing, but he is exhausted.

Here he is taking the heavy snow off of the Hemlock before any branches break.

He has had to snowblow paths for Mika every other day so she can go out in the yard.

Today, we have sunshine for the first time in days and some of the snow is compacting. He has tried to rake snow from the edge of the roofline to help the ice melt.

Look at the size of that icicle hanging from my front entrance. All the gutters around the house are full of ice and it is super thick. We are hoping the sun melts it away this week with the warming temperatures.

I always start up my little greenhouse the first week of March and hope the nighttime temps stay above freezing.

Some of my seedlings are getting big and would prefer being outside in the real light.

The hot peppers are doing very well and will need to be up-potted before taking them to the greenhouse. They germinated very quickly this year due to using a heat mat, now they are larger than I normally have at this point.

All the cabbage and Brussels sprouts are getting large, too. I should have waited until the middle of February to start them. Here's hoping that the weather takes a turn for the better and I can start taking them to the greenhouse. For now, all I can do is monitor the nighttime temperatures with the remote meter. Here's hoping for the best.

Come on Spring, I'm eagerly awaiting your arrival.

Visually pleasant 😍❤️

We had two excessively-snowy winters in a row, about 17 years ago. And they came right after a super-wimpy winter. I suppose that's why it annoys me when a weather reported uses the word "normal" to describe a weather pattern. There is no such thing! Average, yes. Typical, maybe. Normal, no way.

I hope you see spring soon!

I agree, this is no normal winter for us here in western, N.Y. I haven't seen it snow this much in 10 years. Spring can't come too soon.

Wow! The snow looks very thick and heavy. I wouldn’t like to work outside in this condition. But the ice around the roof needed to get melted by strong sunshine.

Here the weather is getting warmer and we should be in hot season in March. I wish I could send you our warm temperature.

Yes, it is very cold outside and the snow so deep. The gutters are slowly melting with all that ice. I'm eagerly awaiting some warmer temps, you can send me some of yours. ♥

And because of this, I still wait to start. There's no way I could plant before the end of April, even if I wanted to. And most stuff needs to wait until after last frost of May 31, so I wait.

I was looking around at the snow (no camera with me, of course) yesterday and it hasn't looked as wintery here in years. But it's nothing compared to what you've gotten!

I was hoping for another sunny day to help melt some of the ice. I can see that the snow has compacted somewhat, but nothing compared to what needs too. I should have listened to you about starting later this year. Sigh! I went out to the greenhouse yesterday and set up my digital monitors and it was 100 degrees in there. The overnight said it stayed at 39F so I will watch for a week to see if we dip into another cold spell. I hate to heat it too early on and pay high electric bills.

This is what I want to do if I ever get a greenhouse! I already heat with wood so it’s not a big deal.

That was an impressive system to heat with. I just use two milkhouse heaters and I manage to keep it warm enough. If it drops into the teens or low twenty's I can add a third one. Been doing it like that for over 20 years now.

I have milk house heaters that I've used for various things too. But the rocket stoves would not cost $$, well, except to build...
