Yes, like many I'd rather not... but still.
Like most folks out there, we are not free of all financial obligations. With that comes the need to obtain money on a periodical basis, and hence, work it is. Since I travel for work, I have to leave my home and family. This is that part that I'd rather not do. I don't mind working hard and doing stuff... I'd just rather be home while I do it. That said, here's a few bonuses that come with the work I do besides earning some money.
First off, travelling does allow me to check out some interesting places that I would otherwise not see. I like getting around and seeing new things, so I appreciate this. Also, as a travelling handyman, I help people with issues. The customer is often a person or company that is having some sort of problem, and we are the ones who fix those problems. Helping people is good to do anyway, and getting paid to help people is a bonus.
Another cool thing is that we often replace damaged or compromised material with brand new material, like we did yesterday. A chain link fence was smashed and needed to be replaced, as the photos below show. We showed up to remove the old gates and build new ones, which means that the old pipe and fencing which the damaged gate was built out of are now potential resources for us to use on our homestead. A lot of metal roofing/siding and fencing material is ending up in our pile of resources, so this will help us out a lot.
Those are three reasons besides money that I enjoy what I do for work, and I really am appreciating that third one right now as we build up our homestead. Not only does it put great resources into our hands, it also saves us money while I earn money, since we don't have to purchase the materials. What do you enjoy about your jobs? Are there any added bonuses like the ones I mentioned?

It has been my greatest joy - and my greatest challenge - to be self employed for 29 years across 2 countries doing things I love. I never really have weekends cos I don't need them. I've made my life and my work one creation - a pleasurable one - and I take breaks when I need them.
It IS possible and it CAN be achieved. Hang in there - your family is lucky to have you.

The old saying ... One persons garbage is another mans
Nice post. I like it.
Thank you so much for your love.
What a great thing to get paid to bring resources home for the Pepper Homestead. Any ideas as to what you will do with those old gates? From your pictures it looks like they could be made back into a serviceable gate with a little of your time. that chain link would even be chicken tight.
Most likely it'll be for garden trellises and animals pens. We'll see!
