Travel experience at the Acropolis in Athens

Hey dear hive community, I would like to welcome you to my new post and hope your mood is good! I would like to share some impressions that I made in Athens and especially to the visit of the Acropolis.

I spent a few days in the historical capital of Greece Athens to lean more about the diverse culture there and in Europe, it's probably one of the cities that has an influential importance in many ways. For me, my stay in Athens was particularly interesting because I already had some prior knowledge and have been dealing with different facets of culture for a long time and absolutely wanted to see it all in real and my experience was very positive and I used my time in the city which was named after the goddess of wisdom Athena well and looked at pretty much everything important as well as rather hidden things. On the day of my arrival I already visited the Acropolis as well as the area at night and the special thing is that everything is illuminated and people can spend their evening very well and nearby there are also some restaurants that offer traditional Greek food and live music. The next day I decided to visit the Acropolis during opening hours and took the whole day and bought the combined ticket which cost about 30$ and in addition to the Acropolis also contains other sights that can be visited and for the Acropolis a certain day can be selected on which it should to be visited while visitors can take more time for the other sites, since the ticket for it is also valid in the following days.

Each place can only be visited once with the ticket and in addition to the Acropolis, visits to the ancient Agora, Hadrian's Library, Zeus Temple, Kerameikos, Roman Agora and the Aristotle School are also included. Everyone is of course open whether he buys individual tickets or the combination ticket which is really worth it and you also save from having to queue and it's also important to mention that all sites are relatively central to each other and can be connected to each other when visiting. In general, the Acropolis is also easy to reach by car or public transport and as I have noticed there are also opportunities for people with disabilities to visit it because it's partly also barrier-free accessible or there are alternative options. Public transport is also relatively cheap and it can only be worthwhile to buy a day ticket which can be purchased on the metro station and costs only 9$ for 5 days, which is really extremely cheap compared to other European cities. I visited Athens outside the season which starts around April and therefore there were not quite so many visitors and also the temperature was not so extreme which in turn leads to many restrictions and with the extreme heat in the summer, people of course often feel very listless and another tip I can give is to always drink a lot and not to underestimate the heat and also to think about the necessary sun protection.

At the Acropolis there are numerous information boards that explain the history of this cultural highlight in more detail and on request an audio guide can also be purchased, but most of it is also noted on information boards. It's not without reason that it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site for several decades and has a perfect location with its unique location on a hill in the middle of Athens and to better explain the whole thing, the name Acropolis refers to the hill on which the Parthenon Temple was built. As one of the largest temples in the city, it was also consecrated to the goddess Athena and here is also the well-known Erechtheion Temple which was also consecrated to the goddess as well as Poseidon and who continues the path will soon find the Odeon of Herod Atticus, Dyonsos Theatre, Nike Temple, Stoa of Eumikes and other important sights. Of course, not to forget the view that people have from the Acropolis of the whole city and who should be in Athens must absolutely visit the Acropolis, which is one of the most important signs of whole Greece.

I imagine what a unique experience it must be, my friend. Greece has a lot to offer tourists and we also want to know a little more about all the stories that these historical moments have. There is so much to see that it is difficult to choose where to start.

Jassas :) That's so true! There is so much to see and especially Athens is really diverse, nearby there are the mountains, beaches and so much culture, not to forget all the islands which can be visited from there.

Oh I was wondering where you were traveling now, been quiet for some days

I have been to Crete, similar things to see, always great to see the remains of the past, I would say art and architecture was better back in that days

Great that we could have similar experiences! :) I personally haven't been to Crete yet, but I think it has changed a lot and nowadays it’s much more visited than before, there are so many islands in Greece. It's such a beautiful country and I really enjoyed it there @davideownzall

Yes, mykonos is kinda too turistic, but you have kos and Naxos which are great too
