This story is so beautiful and I'm sorry that it's too late for me to upvote it.

Where a married woman fails to give birth to a male child, she is deemed to be at risk of loosing her husband to another woman who can give him a male child.

You probably know this, but it's been proven that the gender of a baby is decided at conception by the sperm with is provided by the father. So it is never a mothers fault whether she has a girl or a boy.

I've also once met a man who took his wifes last name at marriage, so it is not even impossible for a woman to carry on her fathers name if that's so important.
