Have you ever heard of the saying "There is no smoke without flame?
I keep getting questions from people around me, why are you promoting feminism? Why do you argue so much when matters affecting the right and equality of women springs up? Are you being paid for it? Or is it just borne out of passion for women? The questions keeps going.
I'm providing a candid and sincere answers through this post.
Firstly, I will love to announce that I have a father whom I'm so proud of, he is the major inspiration behind my ideology and the desire to support women Independence in the society.
NOTE: this blog is not a medium to draw lines between male and female, nor is it promoting gender competition but solely for the promotion of gender equality and classless society.
I'm from a society where women were seen as chattels ( properties to be owned) all women were known for, was for reproduction purposes. There was no need for any formal education because it was seen as a fruitless effort spending funds on a female child.
The highest a father could do was to wait for the girl to attain the age of puberty and afterwards give her out to any available suitor for the consideration of a dowry.
As the society evolved,it metamorphosed into a different style and inflict so much pains and frustrations on the women.
Where a married woman fails to give birth to a male child, she is deemed to be at risk of loosing her husband to another woman who can give him a male child. Most times she stays indoors for fear of being mocked by other women.
()
That brings us to my scenario. My mum gave birth to 3 baby girls respectively, some banter arose from members of the family urging my father to send her away or re-marry so another woman can come in and give him a baby boy that will bear his name and continue his lineage after him.
These people ignored the scientific proof on how the processes of reproduction takes place and concluded that she will never have a male child.
I termed my father as "My Hero" because he turned deaf ears to them and made them more envious. He proved to them that it's not about the gender, it's about what you make out of the person.
He never failed to celebrate our birthdays and invite the whole family, bath us when he is around, drop us in school, play with us, gives us the best within his capacity, stood by my mum and became her voice when she felt she has failed him and the family, etc.
He did everything possible to ensure that his three daughters were properly educated.
He will always say to me "there is a place for women in the society, speak up anywhere and let no one shut you up"
My both parents are feminist physically and action wise, they've done their best to support I and my siblings in a society where it is seen as a fruitless effort except for the enlightened folks.
Oh! I forget to say that I later had a brother but it didn't change anything, we are all treated equally.
ππthis story was not to bore you but to create a platform for you to see the need why women should be supported and empowered.
There are most of them out there who probably come from worse situation than mine but lack the requisite help and assistance unlike me who was lucky enough to have good parents.
Please lend a helping hand, don't stand and stare nor walk away.
I will love to say an open thank you to @buckydurddle (I see him as a mentor) for supporting and encouraging me, and also
@GirlTeampowa for creating a platform to support and empower women.
your father sounds like an amazing man to stand up to all the naysayers and support his wife and daughters in a society where that isn't the norm. Your story reminds me of Malala and how she credits her dad for always supporting her and her mother and making sure she was able to get an education and inspiring her to fight for herself. I hope your blog inspires other men who fear backlash or are scared to have a daughter to be brave and strong and support the women in their life.
I'm always inspired by every inch of your comments, It offers this unexplainable assurance and confidence that inspires me to write more on this topic. Thanks for sharing Malala experience, she had a great Dad too. I also hope it does inspires other men too To stand tall and support the women in their lives just like you wished. Thanks for always reading.
This was a beautiful post, thanks for sharing your personal story to give this issue a human face. I love the tone of positivity and affirmation, and am happy to stand beside you in support! Much love - Carl

This is such a good write up about feminism and I really see it for. Your point of views.
Well, for whatsoever reason you are promoting feminism, it's your headache, I couldn't care less. Just know that no matter what you do or say or promote, I'll ever be your #1 fan. πππππππππππππππ

I love that your father had such a great influence on you! It's extra empowering if men can turn their backs to what they've learned to be 'normal' and go against it in favor of women :-)
This is the first post I'm reading from you, but would love to read more in the future :-)
Thank you so much @soyrosa. I appreciate your comment. Hoping to see more of you in subsequent post.

This story is so beautiful and I'm sorry that it's too late for me to upvote it.
You probably know this, but it's been proven that the gender of a baby is decided at conception by the sperm with is provided by the father. So it is never a mothers fault whether she has a girl or a boy.
I've also once met a man who took his wifes last name at marriage, so it is not even impossible for a woman to carry on her fathers name if that's so important.
Your story touched my heart. Your father is an awesome man. Only a man with a strong heart could do that. And let me tell you something, father is the one that responsible for the gender of his children. Not the mom. So it's wrong to point the fingers at mothers.
