How A Steemian's Reputation Was Stripped By SteemCleaners

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Xerox was invented to copy a document or paper and can be disseminated it without having the trouble to give attribute to the owner of the paper. Once it xeroxed, that's it! Everything is fine and normal as it was before. But how about a person copying an article even if it is yours or you have just copied it from the other site. Will there be a consequence after you copied it and paste in into your article? Plagiarism is like xerox, problem is, xerox is a machine and can't be prosecuted about its action, because its function is only to be copied the document or paper without letting know of the owner of the article (the person who will use it should have asked a consent to xerox his/her article), that's the function of xerox, nothing more, nothing less. The person who copied it like xerox is culpable of his action, because he is very aware who the writer or the publisher of that particular article. That's why be careful with your judgement, once you made the fatal decision to copy your own or others without giving a consent to the person who you want to copy or who created it without reference(s) or source(s) you are in deep trouble for sure!

Now, since Steemit has its own sweeping tools for those who are absurd by doing things which is not good in the first place. Follow a simple rule and we will not be in trouble. There are tons of subject, topic to write. Just follow your instinct, let your creative juices do the talking (in your head), it will give a boost to your mood when you do a little exercise like walking, talking to a friend, not gossiping, to set a mood. Maybe two minutes or so, you'll be surprised how brain works.

There's nothing harm done when we follow rules, it means that we have an understanding how this site works. As a matter of fact, since we all write here. We know this very simple rules that we need not an expert or a senior writer to understand it! Just keep on writing THE RIGHT WAY, have it properly recognize who wrote the article, or lifting an excerpt from the book, you'll be in good vibes!

This is so informative article and this will give us awareness and caution on copy and paste thing, plagiarism, and etc. We must think twice before we post or better to do original work and avoid copying from the work of others.

In this way, we will learn also on how to do articles with our own way and enhance our vocabularies. If we are not good in english and are not sure with our grammar - no problem we can use freely the "grammarly" to check our articles and it gives also suggestions on what word suits in the sentence.

Let us now learn do our original work to avoid problems. Thanks @iwrite for sharing this and gives awareness to everbody.

That's why we really need to create our own and yes at same time enhance our vocabularies. I'm not an English writer, I write in Filipino and still trying hard to write in English. Lol!

thanks for letting them know this sir @iwrite :)

You are most welcome sir juls!

Thanks for this @iwrite

I have a couple of comments.

First, I never thought to put an attribution to my own photos in my posts. I will consider doing that from now.

Secondly, for many years I was a trainer and produced material for management system courses. In many ways what I taught was just re-stating what was already available from literature study and research. Always with sources attributed though.

I also drew a distinction between the education part and the training part in courses. What I was doing in-course was developing skills not knowledge. And when delegates asked "What if someone copies your notes?" I would tell them that the knowledge is freely available if they want it. How to use the knowledge is not so easy to acquire.

My third note is that development is generally based on pre-existing knowledge and practice. Although there are places for blue-sky thinking that is generally rare. We build on what has gone before.

As Isaac Newton said in 1675: "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."

Feels like i am back in high school when my english teacher reminds us not to plagiarize the works of others lol. Copying the works of others have been so prevalent in this day and age most people assume that doing it is okay. Credit must be given where credit is due. Mechanism like this instill discipline to steemians most specially new ones. I just hope there aren't any false positives issues in those steemcleaners tools sometimes the worst feeling is being falsely accused of doing something you didn't do.

People who plagiarize works of others must face their consequences. This post will serves as warning for individuals who copy paste and plagiarize works

Well said. For me, I have far too many words in my head to even think of using words of others.

This is why I always prefer to write articles base on my experiences. Damn

That I guess is the safest move and you will not be in trouble. Thanks gailbelga!

Thanks for reminding us sir. Kudos!

You are welcome, gailbelga!

Yup even if it is a topic I have blogged befor I always make sure it is different. Also do based on experience. Sayang

Tsk... Lessons learned. Thanks purpledaisy57! I think his reputation is okay now.

Oh no! Is it true when u copy and paste your own artcle to your new blog it is also considered plagiarism @iwrite?

yes, you need to delete it first wait for months before using it again...

Sir does this apply also if you originally wrote the article here in steemit then republish it elsewhere? Is there no fair use policy here? OMG. Since they are paying our post and comments does that mean they own it ba?

That's why it's best to make ones articles

thanks hamzeto!

You welcome

Now I know thanks sir @iwrite...

Thanks syd30!

thanks for the heads up @iwrite, copying is really against the rule of writing. Hope people will take this warning very seriously.

Yes, tegoshei! Thanks again!

I heard about this from my daughter last night. I hope your friend can have his reputation up again.. Thank you for sharing this post @iwrite...

Thanks arashikawaii! His reputation is okay now.

That's good to know..

We should raise awareness on this so that this incident could be avoided

Yes, enjieneer!

Thank you for the update. We shall follow

Thank you sa reminder sir.

You are most welcome, mam jovema!

Thank God I came across this article. Really it's not a nice thing to be downgraded. At times I re-write someone else's article /image (outside of Steeemit) and use "grammarly" to check the percentage of originality. What percentage is regarded as accepted by Steemcleaner to pass an edited article? And here I'm talking (PLR) articles or images.

Thank you for the info! I thought there was no harm done if you used the link of the picture in your article but I guess everything should be properly credited to the owner.

really informative post and I have learn so much from it...Thanks sir

just like in real life, nobody wants his reputation to be faded just by one unintended mistake

Thank a lot for the reminder kuya. Cause I am also planning to do some research and have it posted here. Atleast now I am aware that I should put correct sources of my blog. :)

Ito po pala ung sinasabi mo knina kuya, sana tumaas ulit ung ung reputation nya.

Thank you for the reminder sir John.

In my case last month Sir John, a foreigner in discord told me I plagiarized my personal experience about whitening the underarm even I provided doubled sources and references but he was kind for not flagging me. It was wrong it's really a great mistake to provide quotation like:

"No man is an island". -by John Donne- ( according to him, it is still plagiarism unless I put in the hypertext. So now I always avoid providing quotes.

That foreigner might not have known the concept of fair use.

thank you so much po for all the advices:)

I am happy that there are such softwares here to actually clean such plagiarized articles. Ever since bubblews, I have always been cautious to trust another site again. Bubblews would not have fallen if they had listened to us.
