Can you remember how you felt when you think someone did something, you are so sure and convinced beyond any reasonable doubt and you begin to plan what to do to that person, when you finally see the person all the anger just disappears.. I remember when I was so sure my ex was cheating on me, I had planned my attack methods and breakup speech, but when I finally saw him, everything I had in mind disappeared, I couldn't remember a single word, it was as though I was brainwashed.. Philip Ashley must have felt the same way with his cousin Rachel.

Philip is an orphan, raised in his family estate in Cornwall in England by his cousin Ambrose. Due to his declining health, Ambrose moves to Italy, there he meets their widowed cousin Rachel, fell in love and married her. Philip and Ambrose bond grows stronger as he they exchange letters more frequently. Ambrose health grows worse and his letters suggests that his wife Rachel is the cause of it, he tells Philip to come to Italy quickly. But Ambrose was already dead before Philip could get to Italy. Philip swore revenge on Rachel for he was so sure killed his cousin, but when he finally sees her, he was smitten by her beauty and soon falls under her charms.
my cousin Rachel is based on the 1951 novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier and from what I gather from the story the fans of the novel will be impressed by plot because Michell delivered the story as it is. But I'm not impressed, I literally kept wondering what I just watched, like what did I just watch?. What's the fun in a mystery movie if it's not unlocked, Michell just dragged us throughout the movie for 106 mins and still left all our questions unanswered. Like, what does Rachel really want? Does she want the family inheritance or is she just a widow seeking the touch of a younger man? Or is she just a feminist seeking independence in the 1800's? For me it doesn't matter if Michell did justice to the novel, what matters to me is the satisfaction or excitement I derive after a movie, my cousin Rachel didn't give me that. There are things that impressed me though, like the fascinating cinematography, the costume design and weisz's performance. She moved from a charming warm lady, to a seductress, to a misterious woman. Her mischievous looks will make you dread what Rachel will do next. Like the scene where she just met Philip and offered him tea, the look on her face after she asked him to lick his fingers made me wonder if he would slump and die.
Claflin also did an admirable job off Philip as a confused lad, haunted by an older lady's charms, though at first he was acting as though it was a school play. This movie is set in the 1800's, so if you are a fan of British Vintage dramas, then this movie is for you. Rachel kept this movie as alluring as can be, that made me care about the movie but at the end I didn't care any more. She might not have poisoned the men in her life but she sure leaves a trail of dead husband's behind, making us ask the same questions as Philip, did she, did she not?

Hey @nmalove.
Another stellar delivery from you.It seems you have shortened your methodology. Why?
You said you didn't enjoy the story because some questions have been left unanswered...I actually think otherwise...a mystery novel/movie is meant to be mysterious...
You said this yourself
The director only left the rest of the movie with your imagination....
Cheers!

@nairadaddy , my favourite person..😊
On my methodology, i'm trying out new methods to know which works for me best..
On the movie, i always want to know what happened, what led to what. I think it's because i'm super inquisitive.
My favourite mystery movie so far is BRIMSTONE, i love the way the director revealed each character in details in different parts. I recently wrote about it, check it out.
