I want to see more interesting content and engagement on Steem. As a big fan of Reddit, some of my favorite stories were writing prompts.
Writing Prompt
A form of writing where a group of people writes a short story based on a predefined theme.
Two of my favorite writing prompts
( I recommend reading these )
Each writing prompt will have seven (7) days until judging starts. Judges will discuss and choose a winner over the next seven (7) days.
All content must be original, any plagiarism will be flagged and the user blacklisted.
Each week I will provide a reward pool for the best entry as picked by the judges. Any Steemian can contribute to the pot on a weekly basis to increase the pool size.
Rules
I will list the rules in the first writing prompt post, but these are some of the ones I have in mind.
- All content must be original
- Stories must be at least 400 words
- Use writingprompt for all entries
- You have seven (7) days to submit your entry on the blockchain
- All entries must be written in clear English
Judges:
I will make a post soon that will kick off the first week and highlight the final rules. For now, hit me up in the comment sections to let me know if you plan on taking part.
Interesting contest. Hopefully I will be a part of it. This will promote good writing on the platform.
Folks interested in this contest may also be interested in a number of fiction contests on the platform. My favorite at the moment is the Finish the Story contest. It's been going on for 38 weeks now, and there are a lot of great writers that participate.
Anyway, cool to see some more ways to create engagement on the platform. I just might contribute
Thanks @dirge! In our Finish the Story weekly contest/community, we develop the first half of a story since almost one year.. how time is passing! Given our 38 weekly scripts, we created something like 400 different stories so far.. Collaborative writing initiatives are all amazing engines for creativity! Cheers @themarkymark!
If you want, I will include your contest in my daily 5-minute Freewrite prompt. Always great to see more rewards for writers on Steem.

Could be fun, sign me up
I will so much love to take part in this, am already into two presently and very much involved.
Both are very interesting and challenging. And u love prompt too, it sharpens the writing skill.
@themarkymark
Just an idea:
Maybe we can cross promote this in sub redditt/writing prompt? ?
Would be a good way to get writers on steem..
They don't take too kindly to promoting other sites in a writing subreddit, but I will try to see what options are available.
I am sure they will be resistant in begining ..but we can think of a sincere way of rewarding content writers..
Hmm, maybe we could encourage users to post their prompt as a text post on the subreddit, and include a small line about it being a crosspost from their Steem profile. That way it won't be too spammy, but could still work as some promotion.
Sounds fun.
Sounds like a fun thing to be part of hopefully I will be able to join

Sounds fun. I have never done something like this either but have been wanting new things to read on the chain and to contribute. I might give it a try.

I'm in!
Sounds like something I'd do!
Love it! I can feel a kind of energy building on the blockchain. I think we're energised by all the apparent bad news haha.
I'd definitely give it a try, @themarkymark.
I love Writing Prompts!!!!!! They are what brought me to writing stories. I even created a few subreddits for writing stories because I didn't have enough of them. I still use variations of them like r/SimplePrompts, where I develop my own storyline from a simple phrase or setup, and here on Steem I always check out @mariannewest's weekly #freewrite.
I really really look forward to these writing prompts too. I'm so eager to write all the time. It's my favourite thing to do. Can't wait till tomorrow. :D

I will take part.
I plan on participating myself and ended up writing a story based on one of the writing prompts you linked.
Good luck to any other contestants.
@themarkymark, I am really excited and looking forward for this contest for sure and from days i was looking for the writing contests but now one door is opened. Keep up. 👍
Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂
Anything to drag me away from work for a bit and make me write sounds like a good idea. Tag me up!

This sound like a fun idea! I used to read some of those over at Reddit some years ago, and it will be fun to see if we get any great entries for it here as well.
Hey, @themarkymark!
Thank you for your contribution to the crowd. We are the Steemit project dedicated to empowering The Wisdom of Crowds. You can find more about us on our official blog or whitepaper and you can support us by voting for our witness and joining our curation trail on Steemauto . We are also inviting you to join Crowdmind Discord server. Don't forget to use the #crowdmind hashtag and happy crowdsourcing!
Additional comment: We really like this a bit challenging and crowd gathering contests. Short to medium form increases the challenge level - so it would be very interesting to read all the different approaches to the same thing and see who wins it. Good luck, and if you have time – join us on Discord!
Best regards
@svemirac
I so look forward to this!! I find prompts are a tremendous way to get the creative juices flowing so I can't wait to hear what you come up with. ;)
That sounds like a great undertaking. So yes, I would like to announce my interest in participation. May it be successful in achieving the desired results - of which I am part as well.
Oh my gosh, I just read the first story, "Today You, Tomorrow Me" and my heart just went out to all of them. I had shown it to one of my friends and they said it could have been fake and made up, my response, "So?" I don't really think it would matter if it were fake or real, what matters is the human decency that the post begs you to give at least once a day. I also think that the world could use a bit more people who would go out of their way to help a fellow person out from the kindness of their own heart. I know, I know, cheesy, but truly I think that a lot of people don't realize how good it feels to help someone and how nice it feels to be helped in dire times. Thank you so much for showing this story here, I loved it :D
I'm always looking for a great writing contest. A suggestive, but wide-open prompt such as the ones you cite would be great starters for a story. I write stories, and post them sometimes, but unless they are part of an organized contest, they can get overlooked pretty easily. While the joy of writing is a reward, getting an audience does boost morale.
Please do run this contest. I will be an eager participant.
Also, I'm an active Twitter user and have been promoting Steemit there for a while now. I'm not sure it helps, but I try. Also, on my website. You never know....
Hello @themarkymark
These are good ideas, is there anything you promote or know off that supports video? If not is worth starting something?
We film 1 to 2 full car reviews each week from which ever manufacturer has been kind enough to give us a press car, we connect this to our steemit with a concsie post mentioning a few aspects about the car, not giving to much away allowing the viewer to enjoy the pst separately to the video review.
Thank you, any advice or information would greatly appreciated
PS as a whole the steemit community, Curie and C Squared periodically find our posts and support us wholeheartedly.
It would be a fun way of getting more quality video content out to the steemit community.
PS im wearing you on my T Shirt , Nathan with the Tag I Shoot First :) #firefly
@paintingagels you must see this!
I am always happy to take on a writing challenge. Whenever I find the time, of course. I missed some very good prompts last two weeks :( But who knows...
One thing is not clear for me. By 'use wtiringprompt' you mean the tag, as a part of a title, some service or something else?
Thanks for the contest, I definitely plan on taking part!
Great idea, especially if one is at a loss for topics. Although I rarely participate, I do enjoy following these threads as they often make very interesting reading.
Looks pretty cool! I'll keep my eyes peeled for more writing prompts but right now, I have a few other projects that I'm working on and fear I won't be able to give this my all. Thanks to #steemitbloggers for bringing this one to my attention!
Sounds like fun!
I'll definitely check it out. Writing prompts are lots of fun. :-)
I'm going to try to take part if I can come up with something :)
I love writing prompts. I would love to take part in this. We have several great writing communities here on Steemit who will likely support and participate.
I will join. Hopefully, I can do this contest some justice.
Hmmmmm.. this seems interesting. I would love to be part of it. I hope i can make one.
Hey @ravijojla you might want to check this one out! 😉
