A little About El Feather Yoga,
I began my yoga journey 10 years ago. Yoga is something Iβve found to have always been with me though. Exploring movement as a young girl I loved gymnastics, dancing, running track, and diving. As many, Yoga found me when I needed it the most. Twenty years of age and almost zero physical activity, I had adopted an unhealthy lifestyle over the course of some years. I believed that it wouldnβt catch up with me, I believed I was invincible. Without interest in traditional forms of exercise, I recalled hearing people speak about yoga. Due to its intriguing mystery, I had to find out what it was! Finding Tara Stileβs YouTube channel it all began there. It was as if someone gave me a key to unlock this door of possibility and hope.
As I started to practice a sense of ease came to my mind and body. Not only that, but I could taste more deeply and appreciate these positive natural changes. I began to crave raw fruits and vegetables and that was nearly non-existent before. Through Yoga, I have learned to trust myself. This practice is a tool that can help us to see every moment as an opportunity for wholeness, love, and healing.
After years of developing a committed personal practice, I was interested in more insight and guidance. Patiently I waited and soon found out my friend and studio owner of Opal Yoga was giving her first yoga teacher training. These trainingβs at the time were not common in the area, so this was a rare and perfect opportunity to have.
Experience
In 2015, I graciously received my 200hr RYT from my teachers Para Yogini, Katie Silcox and owner of Opal Yoga, Karen Thomas. Studies included an in-depth focus on Tantra and Vinyasa Yoga.
Regularly I attend workshops and trainings. As I travel, I enjoy visiting Yoga Shalas and meeting the teachers there. I feel blessed to have had the honor of learning from such people as Jennifer Elliot, Krista Shirley, Tim Feldmann, Randy Aromando, Michelle Dorer, Megan Currie, Cuchira. This June I will apply myself towards a 100 hr Primary Series Ashtanga Yoga teacher training with Tim Miller in Encinitas, CA.
Yoga & Social Media
Eventually, my path lead me to the IG Yoga community on Instagram. I found myself embracing this whole new community I never knew existed. Which has grown to be quite large in the social media space today. I post pictures/videos of my progress in daily Yoga practice/life as well as entering Yoga Challenges. If you don't know, a Yoga Challenge is where each day for x number of days (usually 7-10) you have the challenge to take a picture of a particular yoga pose and post it. The challenge has hosts and at the end of the challenge, the hosts will pick a winner. Who typically gets a prize of some sort. The whole process, in turn, helps you gain more followers as well exposure.
I still participate and host these challenges today and I'm planning to begin hosting them here on Steemit once I am established! So if you're a yogi yourself, or you just want to add a bit of fun and movement into your life/day (and perhaps win something for it!), then give me a follow and be on the lookout for future challenges to come!
Instagram losing its charm
The Instagram scene is all well and good for what it is but at the end of the day its being WAY overly controlled. And I don't mean to preach this to the choir here but when it comes down to it, the Facebook/instagram mega corp. is who ultimately is benefiting from the content we all publish. There is no transparency into the workings of this beast either. At any random day, they make an algorithm change and all of a sudden your photo likes begin to drop or even worse your account suspended for breaking 'the rules'! The ones you didn't know existed. It is becoming a big headache to deal with and it is SO refreshing to see a new platform emerging like the phoenix rising from the ashes! One that allows the content creators to literally use their weight and mold the future of the platform.
Take Your Power Back
Its time we take our power back, one simple way we can all help is to put our intentions into a platform that is working towards all of our and their own benefits. One can not help another unless they first help themselves.
I'm jumping in and I hope the best for us all on this exciting new endeavour, STEEMIT!!!
Much Much Love, Namaste! ππ

yoga is satanic
Nice blanket statement there. You know, your not the first one I've heard say something like this actually. The Christian church has long since thought of yoga (and many other mindfulness practices) as a gateway or opening yourself to outside influence. (e.g. the familiar spirit aspect). I guess depending on how you look at it, many things could be seen as 'satanic'.
May I ask, what is one to do with this statement "yoga is satanic"? Am I supposed be-lie-ve this lovely tidbit based on your graceful statement? Hey, if ole Sat/Set (Satan = Saturn who has been represented in many cultures) wants to get in on the yoga, who am I to down him! Yoga literally translates to Union. In reality, it all has to come around anyways.
In truth, most statements I've seen such as this all have the same source, Fear. Many people are afraid of what they do not know. There is evil in everything, just as there is good or light/dark as I like to describe it. We live in a dualistic world. One could say satan is here with us right now, but on the right-hand side sits Jesus. Ever equal and opposing forces. Yoga or Union works to balance those opposites in order for us to step out of this dualistic trap.
I didn't expect this blanket statement to stir so much up but I thank you for it! I know I got clarity out of this. Much love, Namaste. π
be mindful of the trolls, they are many here
Yay! So excited to be following you. I also got started in yoga from watching YouTube tutorials - Yoga with Adrienne in particular. So far, I've lost about 12 lbs since I incorporated yoga into my daily workout routine just a short few months ago. Looking forward to learning so much more. ππ
Thats awesome! I'm excited to be following you too! π I started out watching Tara Stiles, before she was very popular. It was simply her home iphone videos at the time. She has really grown in the Yoga world nowadays. I haven't kept up with her as much anymore. I mainly practice Ashtanga now as my daily practice although I still will incorporate my own flows at times. Especially when doing challenges and such. Glad to meet you! Much love and looking forward to sharing mroe!

Welcome to Steemit. I hope you have fun here :)
Thank you! Already having a blast :D Thanks for the comment. π
Welcome to Steemit! I can tell that you're gonna have some amazing content to contribute. I'm from the birth place of yoga yet never really got into it so much. Perhaps I can learn a thing or two from you. I'm in my mid 20's where age is catching up with my body and perhaps a few yoga exercises will help rejuvenate me like it did for you.
Thank you soulturtle! Its nice to be here. So cool you are from the motherland! I'm looking to go to Mysore next year which will be my first trip to India. When I found yoga I was in my early 20's, it has literally transformed my life in almost every way imaginable. It all started with the physical aspects and getting healthy for me, as at that time I was in the worst state physically I've ever been. Through the asana's or postures/movements one finds that channels open and we expand into new spaces we didn't know were there before. There are 8 limbs to yoga and the physical postures is only 1 part. However, it's typically the best starting point for many. I'm excited to share more here on Steemit and hearing comments such as yours here is so inspirational! Much love, glad to be here on this journey with you! Namaste ππ
Basketball, dance, and yoga, are fun, and you are very talented, and Instagram is on the same slope with Facebook. Nice to meet you.
Thanks you! So nice to meet you too! You know, growing up basketball was my favorite sport! And I've always loved to dance. Yoga and movement go hand and hand. It all makes sense now :D thanks for teh comment friend! Much love!
Basketball sure is fun. Also, volleyball. What do you think about Zumba?
I haven't ever tried Zumba personally. I know some really enjoy it :D Yoga has many aspects to it, the physical postures being only one of 8 limbs. For me once I found yoga I was set, it had everything I didn't know I was looking for to offer me. You learn to adapt it to your everyday life as it comes back to your breath, mind, consciousness, spirit, and body. Its really a whole awareness practice. So for me, I've chosen to take this path as its what my higher self-presented me and I just have to share it!
What are the eight limbs? 2 arms, 2 legs, head, body, and that is six. There are 2 more?
Thats right, the two more limbs growing out of your head! :P JK! The 8 limbs are more like aspects. They come from the sutras of Patanjali. You can get a run down here if your interested. https://www.yogajournal.com/practice/the-eight-limbs
Much love!
Much love back. Thanks.
