Have you always wanted to ask me something?
Now is your chance, there won't be another!
(ok, ok, there will)
My last AMA was back in October 2024.
Hit me up in the comment section with a question and I will do my best to answer it. I post a new AMA post every so often.

What is an AMA?
AMA is a format popular on Reddit where one person offers to answer questions for a limited period of time.
How long will I answer questions?
I will usually answer them pretty quickly, and I should be around for a few hours. I will continue to answer them as they come in. I am going to hop out in a few hours to go see Violent Santa but will be back to answering questions after.
What type of questions can you ask?
I'm open to pretty much anything but I can give the best answers about:
- Hive
- Hive Witness
- Crypto
- PCs
- AI
- Gaming (Video, Board, Crypto)
- NFTs
- Popping off in Hunt: Showdown
- Yolo SPY 0dte
- Ape Mining Club
- Hive Punks
- Photography
- Development
- Technology
- Raspberry Pi
- 3D Printing
- Productivity
- Movies & TV
- Comedy
- Memes
- Pool maintenance
My recent posts:
- What does onboarding 10,000 active users look like?
- Was DeepSeek a black swan?
- How the top 3D printer company just screwed the pooch
Don't feel limited to the above categories, just things I generally know about.
Here to answer your questions is Oreo.
This AMA brought to you while listing to Old Number 7 by The Devil Makes Three
So let's get this shit started!

Do you feel blocktrades votes should count on DHF proposals?
Yes. We need more orcas who are willing to vote. Voter apathy is more of a problem than voters with large stake. It's the same IRL. People don't vote.
Yes, why wouldn't they?
Should it be limited? The main thing is it throws out any decentralized option of the DHF when a single vote from one person/company can pass a proposal. Essentially if they wanted to they could create a DHF proposal themselves and vote for themselves and collect 100,000 HBD daily if they really wanted to there's nothing stopping them as far as I know? Seems like a major issue in terms of the so called decentralized aspect of Hive.
No. Like most "fixes" it is easily circumvented with multiple accounts.
This is less a problem with @blocktrades stake and the lack of it on others.
You just said the keyword, decentralized. Others need to step up and help it be so.
Good stuff, I appreciate the time on the thoughts on the matter.
I agree that the present form and boundaries to the DHF funding proposals, and the impact of stake on that process can better. I have proposed [Edit: not as a DHF proposal, but merely, as here, in comment on chain.] that the DHF being a commons should be reflected in how it is spent, as each of us with stake have a proportionate stake in the DHF that is not reflected in how it is spent.
I have suggested that upon our accession to stake our stake in the DHF be calculated, and our votes for proposals that attain funding then draw down our stake in the DHF. This would leave that power to vote away our stake in the DHF in our exclusive hands, and not subject to tyranny of the majority. Eventually profligate spenders would spend away their say in how the DHF is spent, presumably frivolously, and frugal conservators of their capital would be left to approve proposals that met their more exacting standards.
Were such a rebirth of the DHF to be created, none could complain that BT, or any whale, was blowing the DHF on development such master developers reckon appropriate, because their portion of the DHF would remain to them, untouched by the spending of them that voted for it. This would also limit proposals to the portion of DHF voters for it had a right to spend. Further, no Return proposal, nor the individual DV's many have proposed apply to each DHF proposal, would be necessary, as folks can spend their stake as they see fit, and do not need our approval to do so.
In the real world we can only spend our money once, and IMO the DHF should reflect this reality and let stake holders only spend their stake in the DHF once.
Greetings for the day.
How can one get off from your ZERO list? Or is it like once a user is added then there's no way to get removed?Hi @themarkymark
Depends on why they are there.
Thanks for response ser. I am added and I would like to follow the process for removal. Kindly help and can I please DM you if you allow. Thanks in advance.
That's a really clever name for your cat? How did you settle on that? :) I'm just kidding. Do you think there would be a benefit to being able to weight proposal votes like we can post upvotes?
I didn't, and I hate it, but we rescued it.
Benefit? Maybe. Ideal? Nah. The real issue though is not enough people have stake and actively using it.
Here's another question. What's your favorite tool for SSH access? I'm still using Putty, but I feel like there is probably something better out there.
Favorite? SecureCRT by a landslide.
What do I use? ssh command line with a good ssh-config so I can just type ssh witness03 and that's it.
I used SecureCRT for a decade, but when I switched completely to Linux a year or so ago, I stopped as it is too difficult to keep up with. There is a Linux build, but it only for Debian based, and not always the latest version. I believe I can easily get it from the Arch Aur, but I just stopped bothering. It is really nice, but I find myself just using
ssh host
and I haven't really missed it much. I wrote a long post on SecureCRT here but the search is garbage so I couldn't find it.Ah, okay, that makes sense. I'm still mainly using a Windows desktop, but I guess I could do it from the command line or powershell. I'll look into SecureCRT too. Thanks!
SecureCRT isn't cheap, and I'd only recommend it if you use it a lot daily.
There are a few tricks you can do to make life easier. I am not sure on Windows, as I use Linux for this, on Windows I'd be using SecureCRT.
Okay thanks!
Truer words were never spoke. What would it take to get you to fix that?
Really not on my agenda to deal with. I have my own way to find things when it is important.
The entire chain has to either be indexed, or use HiveSQL/HAFSQL but HiveSQL will be paid soon and HAFSQL doesn't have full text search on comments so it is incredibly slow. The search being used by PeakD is suppose to fix that, but I find it never works. It uses a third party ELK stack that I am not sure is maintained.
Google is the alternative, which works sometimes, just use site:peakd.com at the end of your query, but a lot of content on hive is not indexed, so it fails a lot as well.
The only solution that works is to use sql searches, but it is slow and it would be stupid slow if a lot of people started using it at once (like through a front end that did that).
I am too often left to scroll through my back catalog when seeking answers I have already made or referred to. God forbid I have to find a post by someone else I didn't rehive, or worst of all, a comment on someone's blog. I suspect I've spent a week scrolling through catalogs in these last few years, trying to save time by finding such posts rather than writing them anew.
Well yeah, I guess there is that. I think my sister used to have a cat named Oreo.
I would have named her Potato or something a bit funnier. I like to call her Fatty Patty.
Yeah, Oreo would be funnier if she were a ginger cat or vice versa.
Are there any updates on your projects like hivepunk and apemining.
I been here for seven + years. Right now I have 8,239HP and 1000HBD. What do you think would be reasonable goals for my ten year anniversary? I am slowly buying HBD at the moment.
I have no idea, everyone's situation is different financially and how they get supported on chain. While having goals is great, there is a lot of unpredictability unless you are buying Hive and staking it yourself.
Outside of Hive, are you active in any other crypto communities? What are others doing better than Hive?
Yes. But these days I am heavily into the stock market and spend a lot of time there and working on my tools.
Userbase, it almost comes down to userbase.
I wonder if Hive would be better promoted as a utility crypto as well as being a community, for a while a lot of folks were building on Rally for eg. https://rly.network/ but then the price dropped and they seem to have vanished
Are you trading stocks or investing?
Yes, every morning I hop on a call with about 100+ other people while trading the first hours of the market.
What are your most used AI tools/websites and how often you using them?
I really like to run my own models, so I am working on how I can run DeepSeek R1 full 671B locally. I'm also waiting for Nvidia Digits to go live and when I can get my hands on some 5090s.
I tend to mostly use my own tools and self host as much as I can on my systems, like I have been building a lot of tools for the stock market. I have one that gathers news for stocks I am holding and sends them to me before market, I have one that analyzes content and sends me a report like this daily.
I'm working on some that help me choose a strike and date for options.
I did switch from Pocket recently to Hoarder, which is a bookmark/link saving tool, and have it integrated with openAI to automatically tag anything I save.
I'd say Claude is what I use most for any online AI tool. I have perplexity pro as well but I never use it.
What kind of abuse are you fighting on Hive?
Whatever I come across, I don't spend as much time hunting it down as I used to, but I do maintain a system I call ZERO that once a user is blacklisted it will handle keeping their rewards to $0.
Hmmm an unrelated Friday bot notification brought me here so I guess it means I should ask a question... Well, I actually have a few if that's allowed 😄
You have Mal Reynolds in your witness graphic- is he your favorite character from Firefly/Serenity? What do you like best about his character?
If you were to rank the characters from the show from best to worst, what order would you put them in?
And lastly, what are your feelings on how the show ended? Do you hope like many of us do that they might make more episodes someday?
I like them all, it's just the most recognizable for others to know wtf I'm talking about. I really liked Shepherd Book, he was great and it really sucks the actor who plays him died. I know Disney owns Firefly IP now and there are talks of a reboot but it will likely be a completely different cast.
He's funny and quirky. I am a sucker for good banter, and Firefly had a lot.
All S tier.
I'm salty af it ended, I loved the show. It was fun, funny, and unique. Now all we have is woke trash trying to push an agenda rather than tell a good story. Hollywood is dead.
They won't, but as I said above, there will likely be a reboot. Joss Weeden has said many times he wants to do more Firefly but his time is taken up with Avengers and most of the cast has moved on at this point. I'll watch the Disney reboot if it ever launches, but I don't expect the same magic and chemistry.
I honestly think I'd grieve were Disney to reboot it. I have about zero confidence they'd come close to the original vision of a universe that was so decentralized that cowboys, smugglers, and rebellion were realistically portrayed, possible, and positive producers of economic value. I can't even imagine the Disney of recent days doing it justice.
Stargate makes me sad.
I have no doubt it won't be great. Mandalorian is great, so there is some hope but not a lot.
Is there any special reason you have 16 Witness-Vote Spots open?
What are you using Raspberry Pi for most likely?
I have very specific criteria for voting witnesses, without getting into details, the ability to protect the chain is paramount.
I have one acting as a proxmox cluster quorum vote and another acting as a PiKVM attached to an IP KVM giving console access to servers in the basement.
I have mostly moved away from Raspberry Pi's and most of them are in a box or my drawer as Mini PCs are far more practical these days unless you need GPIO pins or the smaller form factor of the Pi.
It's hard for me to estimate how much HP a project needs in order to use the resource credits for its users. Based on how much RCs a JSON consumes, Could you give me an estimation of how much HP a game needs per user to operate? Or could you give me an estimation of how many vests a custom JSON consumes?
https://hub.peakd.com/stats?metric=rc&timeframe=daily
Super useful, thanks!
Do operations become more expensive as blocks get filled? or what make their price (in RC/HP) fluctuate?
From what I understand, it's been a while since I looked at the code, but if a specific operation (i.e. custom json) is used by everyone, it's cost goes up.
So if there is a flood of comments, comments will get more expensive. This is global, not on an individual user. I have suggested for a while this change as RC are largely useless. They only hinder legitimate users as it is so easy to bypass and spam with very little HP.
As for your previous question, each game is different so it is really hard to generalize. In most cases, a game can manage RC for their users if it is popular enough and holds HP. It doesn't take a lot of HP to satisfy hundreds or even thousands of users rc demands.
Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions. This sheds a light on something that has been a mystery for me.
If I can ask a couple of final follow up questions: What would you propose to fix the useless RC problem? Would a general increase in the cost of each operation make the network more resilient to spam?
One thing I believe will help is localizing cost increases, for example if user XYZ spams 1000 comments in a day, they get way more expensive for that user. This would be done with a curve, so their 6 comment isn't really expensive because they already did 5, but at some reasonable level 25? 50? 100? they start really scaling up. This of course isn't perfect either as you can make multiple accounts easily and for free.
Increasing the effect of RC dramatically and leaning on RC delegation more for sponsoring users and dapp users. This of course isn't easy either.
There is no real simple solution, but what we have now doesn't work. It is trivial to spammers, and new users and dapp users are the only ones really feeling it.
Yes, but also hinder new accounts even more.
Do you plan on getting a robot for your house in the future and if so, what do you think it will be mostly used for?
It's probably going to be a while before robots are common place in a home or even cutting edge outside of very specific tasked ones line the kitchen robot which I'd love to have.
Are most of your upvotes done manually, or is it automated to some users?
I only upvote burn posts and they are automated.
Oh okay I see now. Thank you for your time 🙏
What is the top 2 memes hive relates? :)
I haven't really run any contest so I have no idea, but I'll give you two.
Always good for some laughs!!
LOL
Why are you downvoting @offgridlife? I'm curious.
Disagreement of rewards
Can you tell me the reason why he was added to the blacklist, assuming he's been added to your ZERO program.
I don't run "the blacklist", that's Hive Watchers, I have no official capacity. I just added him to mine. As for why, that's his concern.
Do you think the Inleo Dash partnership is a net negative for Hive, as some may think?
I'm not sure, I wouldn't think so, I think having partnerships is a great thing. We desperately need them along with exposure. I can't speak for the user base that may have come to hive and how they interact with Hive as I haven't looked closely.
Why do people think it's a net negative?
It is being marketed as “Blog on Inleo and earn Dash” creating sell pressure.
How did you get Oreo to dance like that? Amazing.
Thanks!
It's just a gif I found online, pretty awesome.
Looks just like Oreo.

One question why do you keep downvoting my original content and never leave me a comment letting me know why you keep downvoting my original content 🤔
Reward disagreement.
😂 are you mentally okay
Yes
Explain further as it doesn't make sense what you are saying
Do you own Hive?
Yes I own hive. You can see it in my wallet.
I know @steeve sent you 😂
From Minecraft?
You can play silly all you want just remember what you started 😂
I didn’t start the fire, it was always burning
And remember azircon knows I have everything I need on him 😂
Just remembered what you started I've done nothing wrong but you want to test me 😂
Let's speak face to face on Instagram anytime you want
We could meet up face to face anywhere you want should we meet In Texas 😂 stop playing with fire
Hey Marky. Just wanted to ask if you will ever remove me from your blacklist. I feel my content is back to being of acceptable quality. I completed Hivewatcher’s probation recently but noticed I remain on your blacklist ☹️
I am not Hive Watchers, I have different criteria.
I know you are not HW. I asked because I’m sure you probably haven’t seen anything I’ve posted since I was added to the list 6+ months ago. Do you still really think my content is that bad? Or what?
Do you have pointers on what I can do to not be stuck on your zero list forever?
What u gaming lately?
Hunt: Showdown & Path of Exile 2 while waiting for Elden Ring: Night Reign.
I just picked up Door Kickers 2 on a suggestion from @mahdiyari.
I'd like to get to Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Hogwarts, I keep putting them off. Indiana Jones looks good and really looking forward to playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 but I want to see some patches and potentially DLC's come up before I pick it up. The first one was amazing, I hear the second isn't as good though.
Good stuff! PoE wasn't available in asia so I didn't check if PoE2 is yet, didn't hear about the new elden ring!
About the other 3, same, lol. I played 2077 a total of like 1h in a gameplay video a few years ago then stopped.
I heard there's a new heroes of might and magic being released, might be fun for nostalgia!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3105440/Heroes_of_Might__Magic_Olden_Era/
I've been following the phrase "heroes of might and magic" with Friday bot since forever and now I've finally gotten a notification about it! And what a notification it is- I don't keep up with gaming news so I'd never have known they were making a new one otherwise! I haven't bought a new game in years but I think now I will...
The original composers are still doing the soundtrack?! They seem to have combined some of the factions and shaken them all up to give them a fresh spin?! AND it sounds like there are some cool new options along with the classic style of gameplay. Wow! I immediately sent that link to my dad cause he's the one who got me into HOMM when I was a kid, and it's still one of my faves to this day (hence my SN, grindan from conflux castle in 3 haha) I'm so glad I saw this 🎉
Haha how awesome and what a great idea for FRIDAY notifications, hadn't thought much about it that way!
That's really wholesome, let's hope we can play soon! PS. you have @strawhat to thank as he told me about the new HOMM! :D
I didn't know about that HOMM release. I hope they didn't politically correct it. Publisher: Ubisoft
I recently got into homm3. It is a good game.
Did you see the woke things in Dragon Age? If you refuse to use pronouns you get a 2 minute lecture by the NPCs on using pronouns.
One of my first "proper" pc games way back was HOMM, playing hot seat with a friend was so much fun.
What faction do you like to play best?! My SN comes from HOMM3, conflux faction... I actually like rampart the most though 😄
The first time I played 3 I was a kid and decades later I still play it from time to time! It's seriously a freaking gem imo
I haven't gotten into factions yet. Still playing the campaign.
It's a bit different, it's a group rogue like spin. 3 players try to survive each day while defeating monsters and exploring map trying to power up before the final boss.
Vaati walks you through it here. It's basically using Elden Ring's assets, but a totally different playstyle.
I never played Might and Magic, except for the 3D one Dark Messiah based on the source engine.
I have no interest in downvoting/upvoting users based on proposal votes.
