I found this on the beach last week, and although I detest littering, it did allow me the opportunity to take this photo, which I really like. After taking the photo, I did the needful, and picked up the can, and found a nearby bin to dispose of it. What kind of can was it I wonder? I think it was a can of Coke Zero, but cant be sure..
Littering is something that drives me crazy though, when I see people throwing litter on the ground, or worse still throwing it in the sea, it really gets to me. As a race, we need to have a good hard look at ourselves - there is no reason why the majority of our packaging cant be bio-degradable. We don't need all of this plastic and tin, of course sometimes it is necessary, but where it is practical, let's use bio products.
But, let's get back to the sea, such power and beauty. I love the sea, often I battle it when surfing off Ireland's West coast. But like many things in life, it must be respected, the moment you stop doing that, you will be caught out by its incredible power and force.
It is with this power it turns another item of litter and something quite dangerous into something beautiful. Broken bottles somehow end up in the sea, no idea what kind of person allows this to happen, but it does happen.. From this broken glass, the sea and the rock and the sand erode and polish the the broken pieces of glass, and create "gemstones" as my little 4 year old son calls them. He collects them when we go to the beach. Here is part of his collection.
He was given this box, by a lovely shop keeper in our village - it is perfect for his little collection of "gemstones" or sea glass, and some other stones he found.
It's very endearing that he thinks that they are gemstones :o) So thank you to the sea for that...
This was one of our happy "gemstone" hunting grounds.
Sometimes it's the simple things in life, which are free, that are most enjoyable, and searching for gemstones with my little son is one of them for me.
Hopefully you enjoyed that post.

littering drives me crazy as well. glad you were able to bring something positive out of it at least. great post, cheers
Thanks for stopping by, yes littering is the lowest of the low..
Hey, beautiful post! I only think that the first photo could be better if the camera was a bit pointed upwards and the can was in the bottom left corner. Of course I’m not a professional, but it just makes me want to see a bit upwards.
Apart from that, I like all the things you wrote. These “gemstones” are always very interesting with their different tints and colorings.
Always having a good time experiencing your posts!
Thanks a lot @mdosev kind words indeed, and thanks very much for the constructive words about the photo capture, I will remember it next time, and follow your advise 👍

Litter is the shits. Always a battle. And there's the plastic islands.... I like your son's box. It puts a little brighter shade on things.
On the other hand... my step son/beer mentor is an avid surfer. Drop on by dude. :-))
Stick the kettle on, I'm on the way... Actually, scratch that, stock up that fridge, I'm on the way... :o) Ya litter is such a scourge and the plastic islands are a terrible reflection on us as a race..

Lovely photos and thoughts. A thing that my wife and I have found fascinating is how people on the other side of the Atlantic are fascinated by American Indians (re: that box). If you are, I recommend the short stories and novels of Sherman Alexei. Even if you aren't, I recommend him. He's a really good writer. Looking him up, I found this article in the L.A. Times by him! http://articles.latimes.com/1998/jun/28/entertainment/ca-64216

Thanks for the recommendation on Sherman Alexei - I'll check out one of his novels, he seems like an interesting guy after reading his writeup in the LA times.. Indian culture is very interesting, quite similar to the aborigine people in Australia..
