Conversational Vietnamese is just chao followed by a title or name. For example, Chao, anh! One would say to a man . Chao, em is for a woman. Chao ba for father, etc.
Cool. This is why it's better to talk to people who speak the language than rely on the internet!
I was married to a Vietnamese woman for 6 years. I know all the basics, and an advanced understanding of the curse words.
Yes it is amazing what the translation book or internet will describe vs local language!
