Australians behind the cryptocurve? Without a strong distrust for government, the appeal isn't as strong?

download.jpgHi Steem,
So I've been rather addicted to the hole cryptosphere, and have been bringing the topic up where ever I can! Especially as the price has been flying bye the hour!
But this has led me to a strange conclusion, Australians just don't have to care. Our economy kicks ass, what do i care about bitcoin??

So as I keep trying to find people in real life whom have knowledge of bitcoin, everyday Oz's have no clue what bitcoin is! My brother is extremely tech savvy he has always loved his games, I remember him buying and us playing interstate 76' back in 96-99 this is pretty early for Australian internet in rural NSW, but we did manage to rack up $1200 worth of downloads in our first month. Parents were not impressed and had no idea how or what 280 megabits was, but the internet company was very kind and let it slide informing us that yes playing games is "downloading", so my brother quickly derived some manner of bypassing there data logging system so we had unlimited data/hours for a while.

Anyway I was so overly confident that my brother would be at least aware of bitcoin, if not mining it, he's running 6 computers right now I'm pretty sure. So I bring the topic up just bitcoin, and eventually mining. What bitcoin?, that still around he recalls people mining it back 13 thats about it. This blew me away, sister in law, no clue, best friend is also tech savvy as hell no clue what it is.

Undeterred I kept bringing it up, bars, even in a nightclub(ya it wasnt happening anyway mayaswell put the nail in the coffin with "so bitcoin") and nobody had heard of it at all. I probably talked to 25-30 people about it, everyone was interested but honestly admitted absolutely no knowledge of blockchains, cryptos, coins, nothing!

This will bring us to the question of why???, Well Australia has had it pretty good economically, we didn't have to brexit, our housing bubble wasn't there cause we cant get sub-prime mortgage, our banks are regulated on fractional reserve lending, so our money has stayed somewhat stable. I wont lie we have some ups and downs down here, but we have a strong economy, and have had "A fortunate life"(awesome book, definatly worth reading as it gives a great idea of the australian attitude when faced with adversity) . So I think this has left us somewhat despondent to developments, global fiscal developments. But not that alone, we feel more trust for our government I feel, and maybe even a bit of pity for it?, Its always floundering around not getting a lot done, it couldn't possible be capable of actual conspiracy style espionage! Plus I really don't fear a Australian economic collapse anytime, and no real reason to hide my money from my government perhaps this has led to less than huge adoption rates in Australia.

What are your thoughts?

Spread the word, and talk to people about cryptos and get people talking.

Thanks @twigg

Dude I'm out here in Germany at the moment and I have been trying to spread many different things that could help and empower people with very little success. But with this #Bitcoin curve right now people are like really receptive and showing me the donald duck green eyes even harassing me to babystep them through how to set everything up, and so on. I am a bit worried for my company if like half the people don't show up anymore because they got rich with crypto :-D
I spoke to alot of people about it when it was at like 2,3 k , and mainstream news wrote stories about it when it 4k the other day, time in which they could have doubled their money already, now the Fomo has kicked in heavily x-D

yeah i expected a bit more of that here!! even as i tell them its lifespan and tell em its worth 6k (dropped back to 5.5 today) and everyone just wants to debate its worthlessness more than worrying about getting involved....i find conspiracy theoriest are much more receptive :-)

nice sharing...now i following you

thanks

Good share @twigg
Exactly the same thing that I noticed with OZs (I'm not one btw).

thanks mate,
Ya I been really surprised, untapped market I guess :)

The government has already (and surprisingly) wrote laws to support it. The cynic in me thinks its because its easy to tax/track (because of the blockchain).

The only control they have is where its traded for AUD and when cryptos take over they will lose even that!

thanks. ya i cant imagine them being able to trace cryptos competently....just my use would take 5 agents...if they had 5 agents that understood blockchain....i cant see em actually tracking it...they jusy talk shit

Anyone good enough to track crypto wouldn't be working in private sector and if they did the goverment would ignore them like they did when they consulted for the NBN & DNS blocking of torrent sites.

lol, ya have a point....mayb if we incorporate a car service into a blockchain the moron politicians will think about learning something

They aren't really stupid, just really stubbornly resilient to change. I think you get to a certain age and you just cant adapt to new thinking. Also they fear pissing off their stakeholders more then they fear pissing off the public, being hated as a pollly is par for the course.

While they still has Murdoch in his pocket and young voter disenfranchisement the lab/lib wheel keeps on turning. Requiring people to enroll to vote for the gay plebiscite is going to work against them & labor is already preparing to take the wheel. But true change will come when we get a 3rd option that focuses on the issues because they need addressing.

For now the best option is hoping the government stay gridlocked and nothing too stupid/waste of money makes it into law!

I cant speak for political as i try to just ignore all the bs now. but i have alot of experience with qld enviromental legislation, mining and construction....and we have the most backwards legislation and thanks to what joeb elky wrote 40 years ago, qld effectively cant update anything and companys can just keep using 40 year old enviromental rules... ive been trying to ignore politics, whole system is so corrupt, polys get there 5% pay increase yearly...yet im makeing less an hour now than i was in 99, as a chef my hourly rate has reduced not relatively...my hourly rate is 2$ lower today as a mature experienced worker than it was in 99....yay for equality

nice analysis.

I'm trying to spread the word amongst filmmakers but it's also difficult!

x
