The Steemit Atmos-fear
Since monday, I've read or skimmed through three posts by three different guys — well known Steemit veterans — stating they've had enough of Steemit, accompanied by acidic condemnation of the inequality and gloomy predictions that Steem is going to shrivel up and just die. This is not one of those posts. Number one, I've announced a withdrawal from social media before, only to show up a number of days later — and make myself look like a twerp in the process.
This isn't a statement of how much or how little I'll post. And it's not a declaration of doom. I'm troubled by the horribly slanted voting of most large accounts for sure. But greed is not new to crypto or finance in general. (What an understatement!)
A Crazy Track Record
I think it was a month ago when I first announced I was taking a Steemit break... and then I proceeded to post every day faithfully for about three weeks — definitely contradicting myself. I was thinking, "Maybe I can contain all my posting activity into a day a week". It worked for a while, but I'm posting more sporadically now due to the work load FINALLY manifesting itself after quite a slow start to the year. I've been bottlenecked for at least two weeks now.
Since July of last year, I've put a ridiculous amount of pressure on myself to post almost every day. If you think the price of steem is demotivational now, try the 0.85 to $1.10 range that I was thriving in... (And lest we forget, steem plunged to $0.07 a year ago this month!) Adding to the pressure of posting daily, some posts taking from 5 to even 40 hours to create (videos), I didn't once withdraw to fiat. A few weeks back, I did buy a pc mouse. That was my first tangible reward from my steem activity.
Pulling Back Sensibly
Although I'm going to try building my career with the same time and effort I've put into Steem, I'm not going to power down. However, with the time, treasure and toil I've put into the platform (plus mounting expenses from a history of career dry spells/unplanned expenses) I need to take some profits. I'm not at all thrilled to say this, but I'm now delegating a large amount of my SP for profit. I hope I've established that I truly care about smaller users, but this is a survival-mode approach that will ease my burdens a little and prevent me from powering down. I still plan to delegate SP to others that are helping the platform, perhaps 2,000 SP total - more than 10% of my SP.
I believe that by collecting some payouts without having to post, I'll be able to eventually pursue what I'm dying to do more of - video - and top-notch animated memes that Steemit NEEDS TO SEE!!! :D
Dispelling the FUD
Please, guys, try to stay in step with the witnesses and technologists — everyone loves a nice FUD piece, but keep it balanced. The devs are working hard to improve things and the witnesses I've spoken with are optimistic despite the headaches.
Let's imagine it's 2011. Bitchcoin has hit 1 USD and has made its first round of millionaires, but you only have 200 bitchcoins. $200 worth. Great. What's that going to do for you? It doesn't even pay a month of a rent or your car payment. What will you do? Hopefully you'll wait seven years and see that 200 bitchcoin hit over $2,000,000. The same can be applied to Steem, I think. It's a downer that very few of us can pay the bills with what we're taking in. Just like bitchcoin, the supply distribution is terribly slanted to few hands (except that's slowly changing with Steem). And, like the drop from $30 bitchcoin (March 2011) to $2.5 bitchcoin in fall of 2011, the Steem price drop is a bummer. I think you may just want to hang in there.
The blockchain activity and Alexa stats of all the Steem-based apps speak louder than the fear-mongers, at least in my opinion. This is NOT investment advice. Make of it what you decide. I wish you massive profits! I frag u now!!! Dissent shall be sirenced! XD
Gotta run!
This has turned out to be WAY longer than I had expected. I appreciate you all, even my butt-hurt haters. You certainly are an entertaining bunch! XD Thanks for reading! And even though I'm not going to prioritize Steem for a while, I'll try to show up from time-to-time and cause a ruckus or two.
Everybody does what they gotta do to survive. Nothing wrong with delegation. Take care...
True what you say ... We have to be careful in a decision !!
Or else... BAD THINGS!!! :O
Some people gotta delegate a lot, some people gotta upvote themselves a lot ;)
Wololo!
(RandoHealer has conducted healing due to downvotes incurred on this post)
Hey mate. Good, honest assessment of where you and the whole Steemit network seems to be at the moment.
You just do what you’ve gotta do to make it work for you. You’ve done great things for the community so far that certainly haven’t gone unnoticed. It’s all about finding a balance between your own life and the community and finding that takes money so don’t ever feel bad taking profits.
All the best and hopefully we still see you around from time to time, which I’m sure we will.
😎.
Good luck with everything :)
Making ends meet simply cannot be avoided sometimes. If you finally start profiting from Steemit, you might have even more time for it later.
Burnouts are a serious thing, sometimes taking a break is the only way to thrive in the end.
Plus it's hard to stay away from Steemit :D
I actually had a really good month or two (for someone like me, at least) but I crippled myself by never withdrawing and powering up instead...
Mainly I don't want to make my clients leave me by being habitually late...
Thanks for dropping by!
Man I feel your pan! I have been on again and off again since last May. I do keep coming back though! Regardless of your posting schedule...I will be here with you!
Thanks for understanding... This is one of the worst work bottlenecks I've had in a long time -- and to make stuff worse, I'm 18 working hours behind due to ridiculous client edits on several different projects :(
Hope to still post sporadically, I hope you will as well!
You have collected your daily Power Ups! Your posts received total upvotes worth of 2.71$.

In a world where many of the other big players have been sneaking countless SBD out through various sneaky exit doors for a very long time I doubt anyone will mind if you delegate some SP for profit.
I don't really like to, definately wasn't part of my plan... Wish my dumb stupid job was better so I could have regular posting here... :)
That's a great concept provide dear...Keep it up..
Say whatt??
Hey there why you flag me?
Pleace answer me?😢😢
Because I don't think you read the post, it seems like you were just talking random. I will remove flag now.
It was nice to read such a lengthly write up from you and hear your voice <3 <3 <3 I'm glad you've made a decision that will help your life have more ease... you deserve it sweetie!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Love your cheekiness!! Always.
I am very proud of the effort and work of @overkillcoin so disciplined
That was a very misleading post. I thought it was about birds!!
At least you announce your retreat from Steemit.
I just went on a retreat not knowing I would hardly have time to post, but nobody steems to notice... (spelling mistake, but I'm gonna leave it in :D )
Or shift in priorities... I'll still drop in when I can, more so than fakebook :)
Welcome back!!!! :) I think everyone's so crazy hectic lately...
Thanks for dropping by!!
If the Bitchcoin/Steem analogy holds true, we can all retire to our chateau in the south of France.
Yeah, I recently started doing the same thing, currently about 20% of my SP. Meh, I’ve never been a particularly prolific poster anyway.
Or at least make sure the bills/tax wolf is no longer constantly at the door. I'd like to make a carpet out of that wolf!!! :D
Posting just isn't easy, unless you drop all your standards and post trash. :)
Appreciate your honesty. 😁 I wish there were another way, something no one has thought of or tried yet, to make money with Steem, beyond renting it to bots. Like, what else could we do? I'm genuinely interested.
There's doing art or design for steem, but the steem economy is too small and typically people prefer running a contest rather than paying full price... It's totally understandable since Steem's not a lucrative endeavor and budgets are tight :)
At least I won't have to cash out. And like I said, a year ago this month, everyone was in the dumps and panicking just like now...
I am not sure how much time you will have to revisit this blog post but I will post anyhow. What you have done is get in early, develop a good following and create a solid base. Mission accomplished so far.
You seem like an all in or fold kinda guy and if that is what makes you hold your focus and succeed, stick with it.
Basic fact is we will be here when you can take a break or spare a few minutes away from your other income that pays the bills. Your foundation will be as strong and will be here when you can return to it.
Pay the bills and consistently work towards your freedom. No apologies needed and we will keep our eyes open for your visits til the point comes you can move back in.
Hey you!!
I've been swamped with work and taking care of my mom. She hurt her hip and knee and is giving me a hard time about going to the doctor. UGH....old people. : )
So I have been on here much less.
You shouldn't feel guilty or need to explain pulling in some compensation for yourself going forward. You always seem to post quality content, you engage in the comment section even when you are probably lacking the time and you are so giving to the new ones here at Steemit.
Providing some well done art, giving us a laugh or getting us to smile daily is more than you know. (plus the interactions with the spammers are classic) lol
Wow, you got up early....
I'm not just behind on comments, I'm behind on work too! Sounds like you're also swamped... Only time I could comment today was on short breaks or lunch... :-/
Hey, that's a stubborn mom! She needs a time out! :D
I see what you're saying, I'm disappointed that things need to shift for a while. I crunched the numbers, and I think I could go full time if Steem was $15 - $20... Seems a long way off though :)
I get insomnia from time to time...
Hi, I know you busy, but I hope you're okay?
I've been up to more mischief lately :D
I am very interested in your work @overkillcoin, you really discipline keep your time. No matter how busy you work, you still take the time to make your latest posts.
I will follow in your footsteps as a good example of a job.
Not posting so much though... :( Tooooo busy :( maybe in a month i will return...
Yes there are a lot of FUD-gsicles around here! Glad you still have your eye on the prize. You can drop in and drop out as often as you like because you have an authentic voice as an artist that will always be valued on the blockchain. Good idea to get a return on your stake when you are less active that's one of the major benefits of holding Steem Power and will help to immunize you from catching da FUD... ha ha!
I passed on "FUD-gsicles" and someone else is going to start using it. For realz though, when a year + Steem veteran goes nuts publicly and calls it quits, it can be demotivational on the surface...
I don't like being less active, can barely keep up with yesterday's comments... clients are weirrrrrrrrrd with sidetracking me and slowing me down, etc.
Ha ha that's trademarked by Popsicle. People have a lot of things going on in there lives so the breaking point for those guys may have been aided by outside forces. Glad you are getting your stuff together so you can keep earning and take care of business. I need a new approach too!
They started by complaining about bot votes and the trending page, then the devs, it was pretty ugly and bitter to be honest.
I'm so flippin' swamped now, even though I'm not really posting much, I still don't have the spare time to work on building my biz... it's like a horde of client mosquitoes heh heh...
I've always been of the mindset that the more Steempower I'm able to obtain the more I'm able to help minnows!
Maybe I'm just a greedy bastard.
I dont think so, good to be in a position to help others out. Things aren't going well so I guess I have to fall back on my SP to help get me through :-/
Looking forward to being on track!!
Do not miss so much, you are a great person and unlike many you do not mind delegating your power or donating your earned money by paying for some publications from other Steemians.
About what you mention that some people of Steemit said terrifies me because in a few words my family and I survived thanks to Steemit then hearing this kind of thing terrifies me totally. :(
I suppose if you don't oppose them, you are going to be okay.
I feel like... once I get back on track, I will be able to help people again... :-/
Thanks your help is appreciated ;)
Hell yeh, get paid too! You earned it @overkillcoin You are a gleaming health example for the communities of Steem and artists everywhere. You've inspired me several times since September 2017.
The James Brown quote is awesome too.
Sadly, I don't even think I know KA-RAZY! Except for my schedule :)
That's good to know I've been an inspiration, right now I'm such a flat tire, I don't feel too useful around here.
"Let it marinate" is a quote that suddenly comes to mind. I'm gonna take a nap now.
You purchased computer mouse 😆 When I was reading your today’s blog, I was making this face because it was bit harrddd for me...yet I know you put lots of effort to write it, so I have read whole thing! I wish I could leave you funny comment!
It's because I had a lot of boring things to say! :D
Comments don't always have to be funny, it's OK!!
I'm too tired to say funny words right now...
