Intro
One of my favourite holidays is around the corner: Christmas. A time of getting together with our loved onces and giving gifts to each other. Especially, the kids in our family gets really excited for this day.
What I like most about Christmas is, apart from receiving presents, is the joy I see on my family member's faces when they receive their gifts. Nothing beats the grin they get when there are tearing down the paper wrappage. When I give presents to my little cousins it's funny how they always start jumping.
However due to various circumstances like family moving away etc... we have celebrated Christmas less often like we used to.
Many people in the world don't celebrate Christmas or don't even have the chance to celebrate it. Steemit has connected many individuals around the world and has gifted many people opportunities that were not possible before, which is in line with the spirit of Christmas: Giving back to others.
This year I found a new family and that is the promo-steem community. Our group is relative new but I already feel connected to many.
Therefore I am holding a Christmas event with as central theme:
Giving
Source
How it works
Each 3 days up to Christmas (25 december) there will be a different event for which there are prizes to win.
For the second event:
Write about a friend or family member who you love. What about that person do you like? What did he or she do for you? Is there a specific moment ?
The top 3 comments who receives the most votes will receive 50% of the SBD rewards of this post. Which is divided in:
- First ------ 50%
- Second -- 30%
- Third----- 20%
- The other 50% of the SBD will be divded to all stories who have atleast 3 votes!
ADDITIONALLY, as a curator for @curie and @ocd I will curate new steemians, which are approximately max. 3 months old, who have written a decent comment.
- You can vote for comments by commenting "vote" below it. Everyone can vote multiple times, but only 1 vote for each comment.
NOTE: I hold the right to make votes unvalid if I have the suspicion of them being cast by empty accounts
- For people who can't write in english we have translators in the promo-steem community for the following languages:
- Spanish
- Filipino
- Indonesian
The second event has ended! Further votes don't count!
The third event will be announced today!
Thank you again for all the great stories! I really enjoyed this second event!
The prizes will be divided on post payout!

@sulemna, I wanted to know your story so I translated it with google translate. That's a nice one.
@sulemna, quería saber tu historia, así que la traduje con google translate. Esa es una buena.
My heart divided into 2, my paternal grandmother and my mother, both have been an example of love and faith: their lesson is always "God is in control" and countless times have shown me, my grandmother who died a year ago always he had a word of encouragement to give me strength in difficult times, with his tender embraces he gave me strength and strength ... many times he did not speak, he just hugged me and never gave up! Both have inspired me to love without condition to be strong and to always show love to my loved ones, but above all to trust that EVERYTHING is an apprenticeship and it is also a passenger. Tireless to unite the family and your faith has been your best message!
Again, thank you @futurethinker for the invitation and may this act of generosity multiply in your life!
Thanks @curie and @ocd for your collaboration!
Congratulations to the winners: @aderonkemi, @annieben and @japfive

I want to write about my friend @dante31. We have been friends for years and he is one of the few friends who have stayed all through the years. Apart from the fact that he kept encouraging and got me on steemit even when I wasn't serious about it, he has always watched my back. For years even when we weren't seeing each other physically he always calls to check on me.
More importantly is the fact that he believes so much in my writings and has always supported my blog not only on steemit. I remember almost a year ago when neither of us knew about steemit, he said to me , when he saw the efforts i was making on my blog "ponmile, let me help you ...i will share your articles on social media and platforms i know".
Win or not here, i just want to use this medium to appreciate him and make everyone see what a wonderful and reliable person he is.

I might be too late to post my answer. But all I want is to let you all know how grateful I am to have my parents. ☺
The ones that I truly love in my whole life are my parents. They sacrificed a lot for us so that...
I am so thankful for them because I have something that I can call as my "Family". They gave us everything that we wanted and gave us the support when we needed it. I know that when we're hurt, they're also hurt because they love us and they care about us. Even though my Dad went back home already with our Lord God in heaven, he will forever live on in my heart and I am thankful that God has given me a great father like him who raised me up as to what I am right now. My Mom and Dad were there when I took my first breath in this world therefore, I should be also there for their last. I love my Mom and Dad so much!

That very special person close to my heart is my grandma, she has always been there for me ever since I was born she my guardian angel, a little history about my birth, my mum was a revolting youth and with all the carefree lifestyle that comes with it, it wasn't long she got pregnant of me, at a time she wanted to abort me but my grandma her mum, fought against it which is how I came to being, and ever since it has always been my grandma and I, we are soo close even though she has other grandkids, she and I are inseparable, she has sacrificed a lot not for me alone but for all her kids, even though most of em are ungrateful, that hasn't deterred her from doing her best for her loved ones, I hope I get the chance to reciprocate her efforts and selflessness towards me, love you grandma shout out to you....

Everyone was excited by the Parents - Teacher Association (PTA) meeting that would be taking place that day simply because their parents would be coming to school to grace the occasion. I was 10years old, in basic five with no mum (she passed away when I was younger) and a nonchalant dad. It was close to everything for me but excitement.
Few minutes to the commencement of the meeting, all stakeholders well seated and I was already thinking about the following day punishment for those students who had no parental representation at the meeting. Out from thin air, a familiar voice called out my name from behind.....
It was my sister.
Obviously, she came to give me parental representation. It was a big relief and an ethereal excitement for me. Perhaps I forgot to tell, I have four siblings - three elder sisters and one younger brother. All my siblings were somewhere far away in another state except my immediate sister who just showed up out from nowhere to give me joy.
She is older than me by four years. The event of that day brought a bond between us that which I will never trade for anything. She gave me the feelings of having a mother without really having one. The mother-child feelings is still intact up till today. She has been playing the roles perfectly well and I am eternally grateful for this. What would life have been without her?

So lovely. I love this. She is a great sister.
A very special person in my family, is my stepfather (my mother's second husband after she divorced my biological father). Why is he so special? Well, I never had a good relationship with my real dad. He was a violent man, and I've witnessed him abusing my mother more than once. It's quite traumatizing for children to see your mom getting hit by your father, especially since my brother and I were so young and didn't understand what was happening (I was 9 and my brother 7). Their divorce, when I was 10 years old, was a very happy occasion for us, and everyone felt relieved.
When I was 15, and my brother and I were living happily without a father figure, my mom met Philippe, my stepfather. We were extremely suspicious at first, because we saw this new man as a threat to our peaceful home. But he gained our trust, and treated us like we were his own from the start. He's quite eccentric and quite different from regular parents (he has tattoos, and piercings) an he made us smoke our first joint, so we would discover marijuana in a safe environment. I never told him that it wasn't my first time heheh but I thought that I had the coolest "dad" in the world in that moment. I had never felt like that before.
He always introduces me as his daughter, and just smiles at me when people mistakenly say that we look alike. I'm extremely happy that my mother finally found the love that she deserves, and that he is part of our family. He was the best gift for us.

The special family member i love is my dad, i love calling him oga Edet, this man is super amazing, being a single parent for 17 years now and ever supportive. He may not have given me the world but he has given his best. He is one person who has believed in me consistently and pushed me to become a success story. Every day of my life I'm grateful to have him as a father. I love him dearly

Hello @futurethinker
Thank you for giving opportunity to collect gifts this festive period. This is my entry.
I attended a boarding school so did my younger brother. I was two classes above him. One day, my bed was stolen so I had to share his bed with him. But that was not a good day to share because there was inspection carried out by the hall prefects and our administrative officer.
I was so stressed out that I couldn't stand up and hide. As the inspectors approached, my younger brother told me to sleep and said he was going to hide. I didnt know his plan was to hide in the ceiling. He hid there for a while until the inspectors were almost done. Just before they left, he moved and they heard the sound from ceiling.
He was caught and was asked what he was doing up there and why was he not on his bed. They also asked him where his bed was but he didn't say a word. He was left to go afterwards but not without a punishment.
I felt bad that I couldn't protect my younger brother and instead he protected me. From that moment, my love for him increased beyond anything I can compare. I always sacrifice whenever I can for his pleasure.
I'll never forget this deed of his. And 8 years now, I still remember this whenever I see him asking me to help him out.
My brother is @thatphysicsguy.

I think that one of the people who has become a fundamental pillar for me is my boyfriend, that during 5 years we have shared good and bad moments like everything else, there was a complicated moment in my life, when I was diagnosed with lupus, and he was the one who gave me encouragement to go on with my life, because I didn't want to live anymore, because the pain I had inside was very great. But he took me to several cities in my country, so that I could see the beauty of nature and understand that life sends you those diseases to be a warrior and that together we will always win. Obviously, I have to thank my parents, but I think that Cesar has earned a very special place in my life, and that if someday the relationship is over, I will stay with all those good times we live, because the bad ones only serve to hurt, thank you stop, for being my shield and my sword, and thank you to my friend @futurethinker for giving us this opportunity to express ourselves, and STEEM ON guys.
Thank for you sharing a amazing story again!

I don't need to think about this question because she is brought me into the world -my mother. I can't quantify my love for her. She has done everything and more for me. I could remember very well when I disobeyed her and injured myself in the process, she still takes care but scolds me though. I still cannot imagine my life without her. So, to the question of what she did specifically and the moment she did it? My answer is I appreciate her for being my mother everyday.

I would like to thank my dear brother Jose Alfredo. He is a younger brother of me. We had been together through thick and thin especially the moment when my sister died.
He pretty sure knows when I feel down and blue. He tries to make my mood better then. We had been inseparable since. He does not like the people that I do not like and also sees that i am comfortable. I do really adore his sincerity to everyone especially to women around him. He opted in finding the right one instead of playing with the hearts of some women around him.

There is someone that I met and somehow has influenced a lot on me. I am grateful because the things that I have learn with this person around me, have made me a better person.
Five things I have learn:
In the family I grew up, we never had pets. My parents were not pet persons. I learn how to open my heart to animals, and enjoy having pets, I have 5 cats (1 died), 2 dogs (1 died) and am always available to help animals.
I learn that meat is not the only thing that has protein =) So I stop eating red meat and pork, I am trying to quit chicken, and learning more and more about vegetarian cousine!
This person influenced on me to learn a third languange, which is French!
I also change my diet, and stop eating and drinking all those products that kills you little by little. Please if you like cocacola, chips, candies, energy drinks, etc do not take it personal =)
And most important, I cant say that I learn it already, but I am: how to enjoy the moment, I am always thinking about tomorrow. This person thought me a different way to enjoy life.
This person is my wife, we have enjoyed our marriage for 7 years already. This year she got very very sick, to the point of dehydration, we took to much time to go to the Dr. she fainted in the bathroom. Thankfully I was at home and had to give her artificial ventilation mouth to mouth, carry her straight to the hospital, in that moment I was feeling the fear of not having her in my life no more. That night, she did not want to stay at the hospital by herself, as soon as I told her I was going to stay with her, she was ok. Good thing, everything went well.
My mom always told me, for couples to succeed, they have to find ways on how they can make each-other a better person, I hope I have done the same for my wife too.
Nowadays people get married for the wrong reasons, I am a lucky man! Thanks @evecab for coming to my life!

I love my mom. I just love her so much i cant explain how much. Sometimes i think the popular "My Mother" poem was written specifically for my mom. Her encouragements anytime i am down, her care anytime i am not feeling too well or sick. About what she has given me,, words cant describe. The invaluable love she shows toe alone is enough to cherish her.
I remember a long time agó, abt 5 yrs back, when i had a fractured bone on my legs , she never let me out of her sight. She took care of me like a baby for up to 6 months,,, what more can i want. Love you mom😍

The one person that I love whom I am most thankful of is none other than my wife. She turned my life around from being a terrible person into a dedicated and responsible father.
Growing up as a guy, my mindset about having a family is that the father works and the mother takes care of the house and the child. I always thought a mother's role in a family was simple and not that hard.
I was very wrong especially after we got married, I was eventually hired for a home base job which I was thankful of because I can give more time to my family.
That's when I realized how hard being a mother. From the time she was carrying our daughter in her womb, when she gave birth, I was in the hospital praying for them to be okay. When she was taking care of my daughter, I saw the hardship she was going through and it was really hard even if I was there to help her.
There were times that my daughter will cry in the middle of the night and she would have to wake up to take care of her or give medicine if our daughter was sick and even if I'm going to help, my wife would tell me not to because I was in the middle of work.
There were times when we will have a terrible argument and then she'll end up crying because I was belittling her, it breaks my heart every time I remember being the worst person for her.
But no matter what happen, she is always there for me, took care of my needs, my daughter's needs and even now that she's also working from home, she doesn't forget her role for me as a wife and for my daughter as her mother.
Truly, moms are very hardworking and strong and I would love to see my daughter grow up just like her mom.
Thank you for giving me the chance to post this.
Being mom is a full time job without a pay.
Thanks for sharing man what a beautiful thing you have discovered.
Wow, all I can say.
Meet Christiana
She's my sister but we're enemies when it comes to the house chores because she can disturb Africa ever since my mom told me in front everybody in the house that she's two years older than me she believes mom has given her the remote to control me but me been a stubborn and rugged guy in the hood I give her the shit whenever she comes up with her own.
But you know what I don't joke with her because I like her so much, if it is possible to marry her I will because she's the best cook in the world. If you want to see the best part of my sister pretend that you ain't feeling fine no matter the issues you have with her she will take care of you like her own. She's just too caring and I love her for that.

I have 3 younger sisters who are basically my heart. When my parents became divorced a couple of decades ago, we banded together and have been inseparable ever since. As the only boy and the oldest - I felt it my duty to always look out for them. And they felt it their duty to always be the reason that I treat women with the utmost respect.
Today, I will speak about my oldest of the 3 younger sisters, Shay. She is perhaps the greatest sister a brother can have in this World. While she has always had my back, she has been an unbiased confidant that doesn't pull any punches to tell me that I messed up or did something wrong. I could always count on her to do the right thing and through that she has taught me to be genuine, thoughtful and look at things from all angles.
As we are of Palestinian descent, we head to Palestine / Israel as many times as we can. 5 years ago we were there for a family reunion and we went to the town of Bethlehem. As the rest of my family didn't want to deal with several checkpoints, it was only my sister Shay and my cousin Sonya that embarked on the adventure. I always will remember how she and I felt the same being at the reported birth place of Jesus. You see my sister and I believe in higher powers, but we also believe that the 3 monotheistic religions have gotten it wrong because they have not been able to bridge the gap between them as they all worship the same God.
For me, the gift of her friendship, guidance and love is more than any brother can ask for and I will always return the favor to her.
I smiled while reading this bro.
Thank you for sharing :)

¡Gracias @futurethinker! Saludos a todos.

The person I love the most is my mom, she has given me her best, even though she had me at 17 years old and never got married after that, she has always been single, so I know it has been difficult for her. She has made great sacrifices in order to provide me with the best possible education and environment for my well being.
Apart from always being there every time I needed help, one particular daily sacrifice she made for me happened some years ago when I was in primary school and she was working + studying so she always came home very tired at night, but I was having weekly problems with my English homework because I couldn’t find a way to understand it.
So what did my mom do? Everyday after working 8 hours and studying for 2-3 more hours she would sit with me and my English books and teach me since she was a bilingual. Little by little, day by day I started to learn English and eventually I could understand everything.
Knowing this language allowed me to learn so much more information online years later, and it’s also one of the reasons I am able to post here on steemit with no problems whatsoever.

Hi @futurethinker! Thank you so much for the Steem! 🤗💚
Today, I will write about a friend I met last night. I needed to find a place to stay because my flight got cancelled due to typhoon Urduja. There’s this very homey hostel here in Tacloban, the Yellow Doors Hostel.
She was one of my dormmates. Like me, she needed some place to stay because there were no trips going to her town already.
She is a dialysis patient for over a year now. She’s a psychologist, maybe that explains why her self-awareness and her thoughts about life is truly impressive, or she’s really is just a beautiful soul. The way she handles her case, and talks about it like its just a piece of cake. I truly loved listening to her journey as a dialysis patient and her life story.
“If I stop dialysis I’m gonna die. If I continue, I’ve got few years to live. So you just have to make the most out of it, and spend your time with people who really matter.” -Ate Karen
There are a lot of beautiful things I heard from her yesterday that truly pierced through my soul. I told her that she should write her story and I’m pretty sure its gonna be truly inspiring. Perhaps, I need that conversation to realize a lot of things. By the way, I introduced her to Steemit so she could share her amazing journey here. ☺️💚

As for the person I love most, it's no other but my darling wife. My love for her has no limit. I am bold to say that I married the right woman who fit my personality.
Her love for me was put on display yet again earlier this year when i made a wrong decision that led to loss of the entire family savings despite her strong warning against taking such risk.
I felt it was all over and I expect her to be mad at me for going against her advise but she yet showed me another dimension of love by standing by me when I was down and re assuring me that things will get back to normal. She has been strong for me when i was weak . She proved to me to me that the essence of love is to love unconditionally. I call her my "flawless beauty queen" because she is more natural than nature.
For this singular reason, I present to you all my darling wife as the person that I love most.
Thank you
You are one lucky man.

The person i love the most without a doubt is my mom. She is the most patient, hardworking, kindhearted, caring woman i know. She always put other's needs before her.
And she's a fighter too. Even if she's suffering from a physical condition right now because of her weight (she's quite overweight by the way), she still come to work on our business whenever she can.
She also loves to help not only our family but also other people too. Even those not related to us. She often give money and things to those in need.
I love her with all my heart and this christmas, i will be buying her a bluetooth headset. Because she's fond of watching movies on her tablet and im sure she will be delighted to have one.

Earlier this year, I was having financial problems and he was there for me. The older you grow, the more your circle becomes smaller. I have lost so many friends along the way. I have also realised that those friends I held dear were never really here for me. However he is one constant in my life. I love his kind heart. He is really the most selfless person I know. The funny thing is that the most memorable time is when we were both at rock bottom and we put together our remaining funds, made a hefty meal, ate and laughed our hearts out. We did not care about tomorrow. That's what true friendship is all about!
Beautiful friendship you guys have there!
This made me smile :)
Thank you for sharing!
Thankyou. :)

Thank you Mom for always being an attentive ear, thank you for your constant support.
Mom, you are my inspiration, my support, my confidante, my model, my strength, my hope, my positivity. I lack words to express my gratitude, but every day I thank you for having you as a mother.

I'm @official-hord and I will be telling y'all about my mom, basically anyone would do this but my mom is like a goddess and I'll tell you why....
I woke up at 7am all sweaty, had goosebumps all over and was feeling really sick, I heard my name come from the living room and I went to join the family, half way into the living room I felt a twitch in my head and I was seeing stars, I was just on the third out of fifteen steps and I slipped...
I kept hearing screams of my mom but I could see or feel nothing, it all seemed like I was dead and my ghost was hearing them I didn't know what I was thinking any longer until I woke up on the hospital bed.
what day was it I asked the nurse, Lo and behold it was three weeks after I fell and my mom was stretched out on a bed beside me and was been covered up to be taken to the mortuary as she was confirmed dead already.... I held tight to the nurses crying and I asked what happened,
I dropped, how on earth did this happen? why did she do this for me? all these and more kept coming and most of all... how do I say thank you?

This is a sweet contest because of the central theme; giving which is the reason for Christmas because Christ came to give is all a new meaning for life and I say thank you @futurethinker . Instead of partaking, I will support my friends who have already and I wish them all the best.
Thank you that's supportive of you :)
