As you know, most of the population is wearing masks these days inside, and some even while just walking outside. I only wear one when absolutely necessary, like for some shops or medical centers that require you to wear one, and then I take it off as soon as possible. I don’t like the masks, not on myself, and not on other people either.
”Why do you care when someone else wears a masks, it’s not doing any harm to you!?”
Trust me, I’ve been asking the same question from myself. I have concluded that I have some sort of (irrational) fear of people in masks, especially men. It makes me almost shiver in disgust and show visible distain against the person. I am not great at looking people in the eyes to begin with, but now I avoid looking people at all. The masked people trigger a very strong response in me.
It’s not that I think people wearing masks are trying to conseil their identity because they are up to something evil, it’s something else. I wonder if my animal brain gets warning signals when someone covers half their face and their voice gets muffled. To me it seems like my fight or flight reflex turns on when I have to see someone with a mask up close and personal, and I can’t override it with logic. I become very agitated and irritated and try to go back outside as soon as I can.
The most irrational part of this is that for example someone covering their face with a motorcycle helmet does nothing bad to me, the opposite really. So I wonder what has wired my monkey brain to think that medical masks are the devils work and I need to get the fuck away from people who wear them.
I can totally relate I kind of think that it gives people the courage to do crazier things, because their faces are hidden. I wear my mask and places that are recommended but I will not wear one while driving or in my own home and when I take my puppies out for a walk I usually don’t because there’s no one around anyways
With this thing too, some common sense would do the world good! People are taking it too far and might even make their health worse for wearing a mask when it’s not needed.
You totally right!!!
Mental are the "people" wearing masks: in their car, in their garden, in their balcony, while running....yes i saw a lot of "people" running or doing sport activity masked!!!
So you do right to avoid looking at them, they are dangerous for the global mental health and especially for kids!!
We are destroying the joy and happiness of all the kids....for what? For a bad flu that in the worst case kill some old mummy who have already lived their life? Seriously?
It is true that it’s not just killing or hospitalising old people, but the numbers are so so low if we just keep a level head with this all. The horrible mental effects that come from this to people who loose their jobs and most of human contact is way worse than the actual flu. We will be paying for this to years to come.
Sadly true
You sound a bit mental, sorry <3
I mean, I cant say or feel what women goes through with all of the catcalling and such, dno if its related :D
Or if you ever had a bad experience at the hospital :D
No, she's not mental. It is not normal for us to conceal our faces. We read most of our subconscious visual cues from people's faces to determine what their intent is. So it is very natural that it is triggering such a response in Eve and likely many others.
This extended mask wearing is building a culture and society of distrust. When that starts to happen, then the social cohesion starts to break down.
You took is way to serious than it was :c
Apologies if I mistook the joking. It's hard to distinguish if a smiley is humour or sarcasm.
I just kinda poking at Eve, nothing too serious from my side :p
No worries buddy. Ye it can be hard to see on text hehe :D
All good. We have to try and keep cool heads in these times.
Nope and nope. I don't mind catcalling, it's a compliment and I live in a very safe country /city where women can walk alone even at night time and be pretty darn safe. Maybe I had a bad experience when I was born but other than that, I really haven't had to visit hospitals much, not for anything other than for some simple checkups and such.
Well, the Nordic countries are in generel quite safe :p
As I said, dont go through it so I really dont know if that was an issue xD
Ohh well, dno then :D
I miss peoples faces, smiles you can observe even though they are not always towards you.
Over it, but not fearful :)
Do people wear masks outside there?
Yes you have to wear them outside except when exercising or sitting at the pub, outside.
At the beginning, probably 11 months ago now, when I started wearing a mask in doors it felt very strange to be the only one.
Then as time went on and more and more mandates required masks it felt more normal.
I find the "creative" face coverings like bandanas, etc evoked a similar feeling in me, but the medical style or standard behind the ear masks don't.
Even 10 months on I still don't like wearing them, and don't wear it outside. My partner does, but that is because of the cold windy winter air and they are more comfortable with them on.
Interesting that you find the more layed back masks more frightening, when I hate the basic light blue paper things the most disgusting. I think it’s partly because I’m a visual person and something looking like a pad on your face is just so so ugly.
100% it affects my attractiveness sensitivities, but it definitely doesn't cause my danger alertness instincts to heighten.
This is so super interesting Eve! I've honestly never thought about it this way, but now that you've mentioned it I wonder if lots of people suffer from the same fear.
I can understand it though, even with your photo above, I think you're smiling because of your eyes... but I don't know for sure... and that feels sinister in itself.
It definitely goes some way to potentially explaining why some people have been so deadset against masks. I've never quite understood it myself.
Finnish people don’t smile at strangers so it’s not like we out here hiding our beautiful smiled, we all frowning behind the mask 😝 We don’t have school uniform and no-one (aside from medical professionals etc) would ever wear a mask, so anything mandatory like that feels so wrong to us I think.
It sounds like it's so much deeper than that. It's not that you simply don't like it, it sounds like it causes a deep discomfort in you.
interesting, maybe times have changed. I have never been to Finland, but I lived in Stockholm for almost five years back in the mid-sixties, and the ones that consistently smiled at me were "finska flickor". That was at dance clubs. The ones I knew were student nurses at the Karolinska. Back then, one became a close friend and we went out with each other, she was from Turku.
Masks - we even have to wear FFP Masks in Austria (also in Germany). I only wear it where I legally have to. I hope this spook is over soon and we can be leading a normal life again.
Sweden is more ”European” than Finland, especially Stockholm, and the people moving there are not the typical Finns probably 😅 Obviously these are just stereotypes.
I think it’s gonna take a lot before we can live a normal life again. Well, I’m not normal to begin with so doesn’t effect me as much.
"not normal" - well, I can say the same - and others have said that about me as well. As far as Swedes are concerned, they are different in different places as well. I found they were a lot friendlier anywhere else but Stockholm. People from Lapland cross over into Finland, and I did find them very nice also. Leena was very much Finnish, she also spoke several languages fluently. When she mentioned she was looking at a job with Finnair, I encouraged her to pursue this (better than changing bedpans, lol). Later I emigrated to Canada, but we corresponded for a while after, and she was happy in her new job.
btw, I worked as side job at a nightclub on the waterfront, and there were many Finns that went there. So I learned some swearwords from them, so together with Hungarian ones I have a repertoire to use when I am pissed off.
I hate wearing a mask, but I need to have one even outside or I may be fined otherwise.
Where do you live? I think it's pretty ridiculous to wear a mask outside, from what I understand it's very unlikely that you'd get the virus outside if you are not hugging people etc. But ofc you do what you gotta do.
In France. It's not everywhere but lucky me, it's mandatory in my city (or 135€ please).
or fuck da police!!
I have made the personal choice never to succumb to the BS, never wear a mask , ever. I have refused the vaccs my body my choice. I have an immune system, if it fails? Then that’s my call. No government is telling me to have shit injected into my body. Not now not ever.
Rant over,
You look cute as a desperado
Monkey brain, wise. Masks, not good. Sometimes it's even instinctive. I hope we don't last long on this, long time and it starts to have an effect on our brains. I have heard from people that even in their dreams people wear masks. Sad if you ask me.
Anyway... cheers!
How about that then? :)
Judge Dredd, is that you?
