Living in Freedom by Living Off of STEEM and Crypto - Will a Cashless Society Change All That?

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

Working a 9-to-5 job is a grind, and it takes away a lot of time and freedom to choose what to do each day. I have been fortunate to not have lived the same way as everyone else, and have had more freedom in my life choose what I want to do.

I had previously saved up from my last job, and lived an inexpensive way of life, but before I found Steemit.com in 2016 I was going to need to go back into the workforce and likely to work a corporate IT job to get money to live. But instead I found Steemit, and managed to earn some STEEM cryptocurrency.

I had some silver before that, but I didn't want to spend it. I want to hold it until it was needed, possibly in a economic crisis that the world seems to be heading towards...

Finding Steemit and earning STEEM has changed my life!

Thanks to STEEM and Bitcoin, I still have freedom from the system of economic slavery that we are forced to engage in by needing a job. I am free to pursue my work on self-knowledge and morality. I am free to do things during the day at any time, rather than work the usual 9-to-5 grind that most people are forced into complying with.

The Steem blockchain can potentially free people from economic servitude and hardship in the systemic way of living we all seemed to be trapped within.

Major cities have people who will trade national currencies for crypto, or even businesses like currency exchanges will do the same. When I need some cash to use in my local economy, the quick way is to go to the currency exchange and trade some Bitcoin for dollars. But I have used localbitcoins.com and you can find a person who is willing to give you a better rate than a business like a currency exchange.

I can pay my rent, bills and shop with cash, at least for the time being. If the governments get their way and effectively remove cash from society, things will change for using crypto. Crypto will need to be adopted as a method of payment in society in order to combat the cash-crunch towards a cashless society control grid.

I hope the future doesn't turn out so bleak, with freedom being restricted through a cashless control grid. Cryptocurrencies can change the world by taking the power out of the hands of the centralized authoritarian government and political sphere, giving us more decentralized freedom from the slimey hands of political controllers. If enough people adopt crypto to being with, we can develop a black market at first, but then overtake the standard economic model and national currencies in popularity, making crypto the default method of payment.

We still have hope of a freer world, thanks to crypto like STEEM!

What do you think? Have your say

  • Do you use crypto by converting it to cash?
  • Do you use crypto to pay for anything directly?
  • Do you think crypto will become adopted by the majority of the business world in time to avert the cashless society control grid that locks down on our freedom?

Thank you for your time and attention. Peace.

The real problem arises from everyone looking at their crypto's in dollar values. Crypto is supposed to break the chains of fiat but as long as the average person just looks at them as a way to gain more fiat we are pretty screwed on that front.

I have purchased many crypto's from people who needed cash via paypal friends and family. They pay no fee's and get exactly what they transfer over. This is a win win as there is no stranger involved for the most part.

I hope more people take their heads out of the sand and set up more businesses that take crypto's for payment and more people quit using things like tether and all of the other scam/fiat related exchanges for crypto's but we need to move past greed before we can ever move towards freedom.

Good points. Thanks for the feedback.

I look forward to the time I don't need steady income from a day job. Even so, my day job is more than a steady income. Money is actually the lesser of the payoffs I get. Mental and physical activity, interaction with people I share interests with, contribution to my community, greater compassion for others when I see how challenged we can be to struggle to survive and get ahead. I have to say I really appreciate my day job. And STILL I am quite excited to envision the day I no longer "need" the steady income.

If you have a great job, then for sure, stick with it. Steem isn't a valid replacement in many cases, and doesn't provide the steady or amount of income required for living :)

My first comment didn't actually address your post. My apologies.
** I am free to do things during the day at any time, rather than work the usual 9-to-5 grind that most people are forced into complying with.**
I readily admit this is a "freedom" I don't have but long to achieve. Crypto is an emerging market, and as one of the earlier investors it may pay off well for me. I am "mining" small amounts of Steem here and I invest what I can from my day job earnings. Mass adoption of crypto may allow me to keep a larger percentage of my earnings, but I don't think the whole financial system will be "turned on it's head". (Something I would like to see)

The major disadvantage of the cashless economy is that not everybody has the knowledge of doing digital transactions and hence its reach is limited to urban and semi-urban centers only and therefore it is very difficult to implement cashless economy in the big country where many sections of the society in rural areas is illiterate and poor. Hence the lack of proper infrastructure and education among citizens is disadvantageous as far as the cashless economy is concerned.

Good point. It's hard to use crypto if you aren't in a big city, but at least the cashless society has a harder time to get implemented. ;)

I dont really see the move towards a cashless society taking off .. it could be some inner illuminati want to take away cash but I think the traditional use of cash is too ingrained to just be overturned with some new laws. Therefore I think there will always be this relationship between cryptocurrencies and fiat .. crypto is for speculation and alternative economies and fiat is state-sanctioned money. For this reason crypto will most likely always operate on the margins of society as its large-scale adoption threatens the current big banks model and they are too powerful to switch over to crypto.

As far as making a living off Steem, it seems to me that the chances are growing slimmer for new users. Also being a Witness or a media spokesperson is the only way to ramp up the earnings. Being a witness requires programming skills and investments. I hear EOS is planning a new Steem-like platform .. is that true? Too many competitors will make life difficult for Steemit, especially when the value of crypto is low .. so I'm not so certain about the future of Steemit .. what do you think? Do you feel more positive about it after returning after a long break?

I hear EOS is planning a new Steem-like platform .. is that true?

Apparently. I hope so :D

Not too positive. There wasn't all the vote buying when I left... the platform might have more users, but I don't see improvements in general...

I guess I'm worried if more Steemit like blog sites pop up, the pool will become too diverse and there will be less money to be made everywhere .. right now it's good that it's concentrated. If Dan Larimer has abandoned Steemit and gone on to make a competitor, that doesn't look promising. And what about SMTs, are they meant to compete with EOS/Ethereum? I don't really understand the focus on introducing a new token (SMTs) instead of fixing structural problems with Steemit .. I guess we're coming up on a hard fork soon, we shall see ... but the management is more interested in tokens than blogging/social media, I think that's pretty clear ...

When will crypto settle down and stabilize? Will it ever? Or at least fluctuate at a similar rate with normal currencies? Until that happens, I don't see how it can be used for everyday transactions. Imagine buying a loaf of bread today for 1 coin (whatever coin that may be) and then returning tomorrow to find that the same loaf of bread now costs 5. It just won't work.

Of course, I'm completely new to crypto so the most likely response to me is, "You just don't understand how it works." And that's right. I don't understand. How will everyone be convinced to use it? Or will it be simply forced upon us by the government?

To me, crypto currencies are more like stocks than actual currencies. Good for investing in or trading for profit. As much as possible, I wouldn't convert them to cash unless I needed to. For example, I get paid stocks or profit from them. In which case, I convert them to cash as my salary. I'd still want to spend as little as possible though.

Yup, the volatility is a reason for lack of adoption. Maybe that will change in time as things progress? Maybe they stay as trading assets like you say... :/

Yes, I see that a lot of people were able to change their lives, because of STEEM blockchain. It definitely impacted my life as well.
I would love to see cryptos being accepted everywhere. I would love to see the banksters and FIAT currencies fall. I would love to see a free world! And hopefully such world is not too far away in time :)

Right on, we can hope for now, and one day our dreams may come true :)

I felt identified with your post, all my life I worked under dependence, four years ago I live from what I generate on the web, my biggest income I get here on the steemit platform. steemit changed the life of my family and mine.
unfortunately in my province there is no trade that matches virtual coins, but if I pay all my expenses with Infinitus mastercard, a credit card that works with all virtual currencies.
Thank you very much dear friend @krnel for sharing your pinion and experience
I wish you a prosperous week

Good to know steem has helped you and you can use crypto in your daily life for living :)

I feel you brotha, freedom is everything! Steemit helped me in so many ways as well, even tho I don't make "trending money" with recent pumps of STEEM & SBD I think even the smaller fish get some sweet cash. Either way its nice, I did a ton of work on my house and other things that would not be possible if I didn't join Steemit. Long live!

Yeah, freedom to do things is great!

I've not yet had the occasion to spend crypto directly, but depending on what was happening in the market I might at some point if it was available. I definitely like the idea, just rarely want to part with my crypto and don't see things I buy being offered for crypto.

I have cashed out some crypto using Localbitcoins and it was super easy. From the time I decided to take some gains on one of my coins in its pre-fork period to the time the cash was in my bank account was a total of maybe an hour. Nice!

But as other commentators have said, really we don't want to spend our crypto at this stage in the game. I at least haven't earned enough from it to want to take it out of the market as cash. I want to get to the point where I don't think of crypto in USD terms at all, because I only intend to trade among crypto. If you think like that, you don't get caught up on the idea that the overall market cap is decreasing. All that matters is the relative price of what you want to buy to what you want to sell and whether that is getting more or less favorable.

I do look forward to a day when I can earn enough STEEM to actually be able to gradually withdraw that to live on, but for now I'm needing to reinvest all gains.

Yeah, that's a good way to look at it, and hold on to when it's better positioned for use :)

I did cash out 40 bitcoins for $600 each way back in the day which seems like a horrible mistake, but almost all of my coin was sitting in BTC-e so I guess it’s a good thing that I got something out of it.

As for now, I am making daily income through cryptocurrency (Steem/dmania/neo/smartcash/ethereum once staking starts) but I don’t cash it out to pay for anything yet. I am still in the reinvest phase so in a few years when Steem is $50-$100+ a piece, I will be able to make lots of residual income. My goal is 10,000 steem power and I am about 60 percent there!

I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Steem and some of the other cryptos I own. I feel pretty confident that 10,000 SP will make me a millionaire one day and provide me with residual income to where I never have to worry about another 9-5.

Also, I have 700 Steem Dollars that I do plan on spending towards a down payment on a house within the next few months if the price gets back to the 6-10 range. I’m just waiting for the right time to sell.

You have a very optimistic outlook for the future :) I hope it all pans out for you. Sucks about the 40 BTC at $600 :/

I'm not using crypto for paying and I wouldn't, at least for now. Due to it's high value volatility I'm rather trying to time entry and exit points as random buy/sell would cost too much.

First thing when people ask me about doing that 9-5 job everyday, get tired, get bored at work place then you haven’t time for enjoying this beautiful life, you completely get stuck at that point...
i am very new in crypto market and as like you i would like to stay free and stay very far from the centralised currencies...
I have bought some dogecoins and hoping for there values to be good on the graph after a few months..
Regarding steemit one of my friend introduced me into this community cause i need some real quick money for mt studies.. I didn’t mentioned, being a computer science student i looked for online jobs for a longer time but at last i found steemit.. it’s my 3rd month going here, till now no great success has came but still m trying day and night to go bigger here..
Some times i get very upset that being giving so much time to steemit but nothing good has came in back but now i am looking to make strong connections with people who have higher values here, compiling them to check out my blog and my work, a few positive responses has been received m glad for that..
I am giving just an invitation to you sir that i it will be great to have you on my followers list that i get appreciations from you people, through which i will be able to be shown to many others..
Your suggestions and response is going to be granted...
Thanks in advance @krnel

I started buying stuff at the grocery store with crypto. So kewl! Thanks for sharing and let's keep the momentum going!

Awesome! Glad to hear you an use it in the grocery store. Directly with crypto, or you mean cash from crypto?

No dude. I got a Shift card that's connected to Coinbase. Looks exactly like a debit card, works like a debit card. Even has a chip. I can withdraw cash at an ATM if I want but usually just buy small stuff at the store cuz I am not a high roller like some of the big ballers haha! Just fun to learn about and see it actually translate to real stuff is crazy to me.

Your success on steem is inspiring, @krnel. I hope to follow in your footsteps. I would love to build up my voting power, over time, and give back and reward those who are producing great content.

Wish you all the best in your success :)

I also think that blockchain can free a lot of people from modern slavery, will see what can be done, about the steemit ecosystem I believe is incredible and very frustrating at the same time.

for now I've just bought some crypto, not for speculation but for store of value I guess and earn a few dollars here, I don't know what we will see in the next years or even months but I hope it grows and improves with us.
Thanks, awesome history and very inspirational!

Great Post! It is inspiring to here real life stories of people gain freedom in there lives with cryptos. Looked at our wealth of posts and I am definetly into your content and will be following. See you down the road!

"The Steem blockchain can potentially free people from economic servitude and hardship in the systemic way of living we all seemed to be trapped within."

I agree. Steem shows that people can create value just by sharing ideas. This should be the foundation of a new economy.

Very good my friends @krnel

I really believe in steem as a way of living. I'm not earning that much, as i only have like 2 months here, and i can't invest on buying steem. But, it has so many potential that I would really recommend it to anyone. This is my first experience with cryptocurrency and i'm more than satisfied.

I believe we could change the entire world if we really trust the power of what can be done with the use of blockchain and with our cryptos, i wrote something about it:
