Dad Tip of the Day: Get Excited

in #dad7 years ago

Dad Tip of the Day: Get excited about the things your kids get excited about to help foster their imagination and further their learning.

Kids go through all sorts of phases and get excited about many different things - dads should get excited about these things too! These things will come and go, but an involved and caring dad will help kids learn through this excitement and create new ways to play, particularly through their imagination.

For my son Jacob, the phases have been construction vehicles, Cars (the movie) characters, Snoopy/Peanuts characters, hot wheels, and Thomas the Tank Engine, among others.

Before Jacob, I couldn't name any of the Thomas the Tank Engine trains, other than Thomas. Now, since Jacob has obtained numerous trains and begun watching the TV show a little bit, I can virtually name them all! It is fun to use this excitement of his to play and reenact different scenes and situations that we have either done in the past or that he saw on TV. It makes him happy when he asks "play trains daddy?", and my response is, of course!

Of course, I have attempted to get Jacob excited about things I like or think he would like as well, with some success and some failures. He thinks fishing is OK, but is not the biggest fan of playing with the mini hockey sticks I got him. He also isn't amused by bonfires yet, preferring bubbles and dirt.

So do what you can to get excited about the different things your kids are in - they will enjoy it and I am sure you will enjoy the bonding time as well!

As a father of three I totally get where you are coming from. I remember the days being on the floor and playing Barbie and having epic super battles with the characters from the Incredibles movie. I’ve had my make up done and my toes painted because that what my girls were into at the moment. From snuggles during TV shows I’d never watch if given the choice to dance parties while driving in the car it all about our kids. My children are getting older now and we are up off the floor but nothing has changed. Just now I can see how their interests have the opportunity to become life long passions. At the moment I’m gearing up to teach my son to drive, learning to play guitar because of my daughters passion for music and playing flute and becoming the ultimate cheer dad for my competitive cheerleading youngest. As thy get older it may sometimes seem like they don’t care as much or want more alone time but the need to have your undivided attention and interest in their “thing” never goes away. Remember to always make time to talk and listen. Amazing the things you learn.

Thank you for sharing your experience and stories my friend... great stuff and awesome job being there for and experiencing life with your kids!

Good!! Getting involve with things that your kids like brings them closer to you and also make the feel wanted, at some point it will make your kids to be addicted to you and fond of you more especially when you bring your self down to his or her level. Playing with your kids favourite toys along side him or her grant you joy, self fulfilment, promote family love and grow strong gene. At some point that will give you a clue of when your kid is happy or perhaps the kid also have the knowledge of when paapi is happy.

Haha I always wonder what it is with kids and construction vehicles! My 6 year old nephew loves them! You’re so right though, so many parents lack enthusiasm for stuff like this and it rubs off on the kids. They are meant to be full of life and excitement, let’s celebrate that!!

Hey dude, passing by to say thanks on upvoting my bitcoin/oil post,

cute kid, he really looks like he is a smart one

You are an awesome dad Brian. I agree with you 100%. For me it's about singing the finger family song and watching Goldie and Bear. Owen's also not to fond of the hockey sticks he got for Christmas.

aah I remember those days of parenting ,that was 16 years ago , now hes a sulky teen !

You are a great father and very intelligent in knowing how to give enthusiasm to your baby. God bless you.

Whoo Hooo! Sharing interests!

Hmmm... maybe it will become more intellectually challenging over time?

Being a father is a blessing and seeing how they are learning thanks to you is even a greater blessing.
It's good that your child learns every day and even more if this is his passion in this case his trains.
Congrats brother.

That's a great tip that a lot of parents don't do, good encouragement can go a long way with kids.

Although I am single presently, this is a blue-chip recommendation for an appropriate course of action when I become a Father eventually.

My regards to Jacob.

How beautiful your baby and how lucky to have a father to take him on the right path and teach him everything in life.

verynice busy

There's nothing like a father's love. He even has our hairs numbered..

very cute kids.

very nice

First of all, I loved your idea of giving dad tip every day. Second, I loved the tip. I work for an NGO where I go to teach kids every weekend. When they get excited about something, something that is not related to studies even. And when we participate in their excitement, they love it. It helps to teach them better later. It was great article. Keep writing. By the way, I write. You can check my blog and upvote if you like anything. Would really appreciate your support.

this is cool, jacob is a lucky kid to have a dad like you.

Bro, 'Thomas' is the name of the tank engine train 🚉.

His son's name is Jacob!!

Nice parenting skills...Jacob is the luckiest child...Watching cartoons with kids gives heavenly feel.

Hello my friend @brian.rrr I'm a little lost from steemit is that I have some internet problems in my country. I do not have children, but if I get very involved with my cousins, that stage is very beautiful they are like a sponge, everything they hear or see is for them

That's so good. Kids just want to know they're valued and loved. They want to know that their interests are important and that you want to spend time with them. Maybe you wouldn't play with Thomas the Tank engine on your own (no judgement though), but it becomes about so much more than the activity when you're doing it with you child. It's a bond and maybe even a memory that can last a lifetime.

Your post is amazing! As a mother I can say that there is nothing else that makes my 4 year old girls eyes shining brighter then when her dad plays Bibi&Tina with her (2 girls who love horseback riding). And as his wife, he looks the most attractive to me when he lets her put pink glitteringly hair clips into his beards.
No need for a superhero as long as there is dad!

Too true @brian.rrr

I did not like playing soccer. In fact I did not play because my dad played it. Yes he was considered a "jock".

I on the other hand was more interested in Scouts and yes, Girls. :)

But when my eldest son was serious in soccer... I told myself Mel, you've gotta get into it if not you will lose part of your son's growing up. I'm glad I now own a pair of soccer boots and I must say my skills are not too shabby.

And best of all, we have something in common now... besides PS4 FIFA 18.
LOL.

Thanks bro and God Bless you!

Mel @coachmelleow

This is amazing. God Bless your home
