EPIC FAIL: Delta Airlines Virtue-Signaling on Gun Control

in #discussion7 years ago

Proves Costly
........................................................................................................................................................................

  • a company allows a teenager with no life experience tell them what to do. Earlier this week, the company listened to David Hogg and announced the end of their NRA member discount program

  • the Georgia legislature took a dim view of corporate-level social justice activism against the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. Especially when said corporation received a big, fat tax break from Georgia taxpayers.
    .
So the Peach State politicians voted not to renew Delta’s fuel tax exemption, costing the airline about $40 million dollars. Per year.

  • in the four days since the company’s NRA-dumping announcement, the company’s stock price nose-dived 4.6%.

.........................

If a company takes a political stance...they piss off half of their customers...and risk a 50% loss of revenue.
Is it worth the risk?

Sort:

Oh wow $40 million dollars a year loss. What a catastrophe lol
Considering a brand new Boeing 747 costs in the range of $600- 700 million I dont think they're worried.

Does seem like it always ends badly when corporations take it upon themselves to become arbiters in social policy. No matter what stance they take, it inevitably pisses off a large segment of their customer base... and then they are out there saying negative things. Better to just stick to what you're trying to do. Like fly airplanes...

In this case they will only upset existing customers but not actually gain any new ones, no one is going to choose the patronize them because they love gun control so much they would pay more for a flight.

The NFL thought it was...Delta should have paid attention, huh? ;-)))

some people (corporations) are slow learners.

Uhmm... might do your homework

Sponsorship spending on the professional football league and its 32 teams rose 5.9 percent to $1.32 billion in the 2017-2018 season, according to ESP research. Spending rose 4.3 percent in the previous season.

NFL looks like they're fruitful regardless of the Cro-Mags and their idiotic boycott.

I know,, I know probably more #Fakenews right LOL

Not sure if you missed this in the article you linked to, it was the opening statement to it.

“Even in the face of declining TV ratings, lower attendance and other issues, the National Football League was able to leverage some positive developments into strong sponsorship growth this past year.”

Yes their sponsorship was up last year, overall attendance was down. If attendance keeps dropping then sponsorship will drop. You can slant data anyway you want. People feel the way they feel.

Customers are always right in all manners of businesses, delta airlines should have be little bit patient to listen to their customers. Without customers no Delta airlines.

it's a bad idea to try to take guns away from southerners..

Absolutely, bad idea, very wrong too, even when there is no criminal act before. Just to make a fight. Too bad.

And whose taking guns away from who ?? Nobody says their taking guns away from anyone. Or just paranoid delusional ??

It's always fun when business try to take on the role of a morale authority leader...

Kind of like Chick Fila and Hobby Lobby lol

Not following you on chic fila, they made no moral authority on anyone. Truett Cathy says he believes marriage is between a man and woman. That’s what he believes, he didn’t thrust his views on anyone or tell them what to believe. Chic fila is the number one chicken restaurant in America if I am not mistaken. Pretty amazing when only open six days a week.

At the end of the day play football, fly planes, make chicken sandwiches and I can think for myself!

At the end of the day play football, fly planes, make chicken sandwiches. bake cakes and I can think for myself!

Left one out ;)

Social Justice Warriors are blind to the truth, and only seek to look good for the public.
The NFL hasn't learned that lesson yet.
The Airlines are about to learn it.
I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of businesses that will learn it before it's all over with.
Like the great Mr. Barnum used to say, "You can please some of the people some of the time, or all of the people some of the time, but never all of the people all of the time."

The NFL hasn't learned that lesson yet.
The Airlines are about to learn it.

They didn't need to lol

The increase exceeds the year-over-year increase in 2017 sports spending and overall North American sponsorship spending, both of which grew 3.5 percent.

someones say that "who sleeps with boys dawns shit" and additionally that "you should not mix pears with apples" ... it is not understood as high prestige companies take those false steps; definitely the policy is involved in this episode; They are clearly taking a stand against President Trump... Certainly Delta can suffer some retaliation from your traditional customers.

Delta tred the wrong path by trying to make a political statement which even lots of politician are more than careful with. Although there are claim from Delta that very few people made use of the NRA discount but it is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that Delta was trying to take side and it came back to bite them real hard. Never mess with customer!

good writing....I appreciate you.thanks

It was a huge loss that the airline suffers, hopefully this does not affect so much and do not go bankrupt.

Delta Force Vs Arabian air line.

Maybe they will attract more customers. As an Australian, were I ever in the US, I would choose to fly with Delta out of appreciation for their stance. I am amazed/appalled so many would disagree.

Perhaps you shouldn't come to america.
you might be MORE amazed and appalled.
stay home.

Yep best stay home where the popo's can keep you safe

"popo's"???????

Why do businesses think they need to make political stances so much these days. Has it always been this way, or are the dark forces getting emboldened by there desperation? When I choose an airline or fly I am not purchasing a lesson or subscribing to a propaganda torrent. At least there are consequences, these business need to stick with their core business, and stay out of virtue signaling.

greed be the main source of loss .. they are too rash in acting so as not to pay attention to risk.

The Trump curse strikes again!

That poor clueless libtard kid (David Hogg) had no idea what fame was going to actually be like, bet he is starting to feel the burn now. Delta's move just has no excuse, they should all be grown ups! Fuck sake, threatening to take away Americans guns is a hazardous position to take, them kids like their guns. What are all these gun control libtards going to do when tshtf and the only thing between them and the shit is the people with the guns? Not thinking the friendships they are developing now will be much good.
jax

On the plus side, this may allow room for competition from an up and coming local airline in Georgia that wants to expand. Delta Airlines will just pass the losses on to the customers by increasing prices, allowing the locals to keep charging what they have always charged, and sell more seats, because Delta Airlines priced themselves out of the market. Then Delta Airlines will go whining and crying to the people they pissed off saying we are SO SO SORRY, we will keep our traps closed please give us back out tax exempt status.

Excellent, and yet the MSM headline was about how only a few people used that discount. Even with no other consequences than losing a dozen fares results that would be a stupid business decision because not one goddamned gun grabber loves gin control so much they would spend a dime more on a flight to support their cause.
